It’s a Sunday, so we expected some sensational (excuse the language) news about the Newcastle takeover.
And it’s provided in the Mirror today who report that Jose Mourinho is ready to talk to Sheikh Khaled to become the new manager of Newcastle.
Mourinho does have links with Newcastle as he was assistant to Sir Bobby Robson at Sporting Lisbon, Porto and Barcelona and Jose was mentored by the great one (Sir Bobby not Jose).
Sit Bobby tried to get Mourinho to Newcastle in 1999, but Jose was after a manager’s job by then.
This article seems a follow-on to last weekend’s story when the Mirror reported Rafa’s future was in doubt.
Mourinho has told friends that if he was offered the Newcastle job, he would take it.
But Jose’s last two jobs at Manchester United and Chelsea have not ended well where he seems to have picked up the bad habit of criticizing his players when things go wrong.
Jose Mourinho and Rafa Benitez at Old Trafford
Rafa is a much stronger character and hardly ever criticizes his players and for us is an example of a man who is a true leader.
It’s not a surprise that Jose would jump at the job on Tyneside, because he was schooled in what a great club Newcastle United were for many years while working with Sir Bobby – a real gentleman of the game.
And Jose has never managed to win a league game at St. James’ Park.
If he took over from Rafa Benitez that would likely change.
🙂
We don’t believe this story, and Sheikh Khaled will know how much the fans love Rafa Benitez.
And if anybody deserved to lead Newcastle to better times, it’s Mr. Rafa Benitez.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Probably nonsense journalism. Wud be more concerned if it was from the guy who broke the takeover news in the Sun.

Comment #2surely the first few months after the takeover would be all about safe hands,
Rafa’s safe hands, they wont rock the boat they will know of the bond between Rafa and the fans ,and the massive support they will receive by backing him,
there spending £350m believe me they’ll have done there homework and i believe it’s far more likely that they will bring in a very experienced CEO and a Director of football above Rafa to oversee the transition.

Comment #5Mouri no thanks. Despite Sir Bobby link way , not the right personality for the club. Rafa has done an amazing job restoring credibility to NUFC – pure class….. Jose could ruin it in one interview.

Comment #7More Bollix from the press, nobody has a clue what is going to happen, nothing out of the club and nothing from Khaled regarding takeover or managerial issues.
They have manipulated a throw away comment made when someone asked what if Rafas contract is not sorted before the take over goes through, so instead of leaving it there , they are making up news to generate click bait due to the silence from within the club and also because of they are lazy

Comment #8Even Die hard Bobbybee will tell ya that nobody is bigger than the club..Even Rafa benitez.
Yeah 100% agree I would have Rafa over Mourinho all day long for what he has done to the club in the space of time he has been here.
But would you really put up with the austerity and lies and deceit that we have had to endure for over a decade for the sake of keeping Benitez.
Personally lads I believe whole heartedly that you get one shot at life ,So if this Takeover means pushing the club forward with Hope and ambition to a new dawn then I’m all for it.
Adios Rafa and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for Galvernising the club and city

Comment #9Hey Micky, leave me and Diane alone :). Going back to last night, yes I would get rid of rafa all day long to secure new owners but obviously the two things are not interrelated. I’d be disappointed to see rafa go, and mourinho in, and I don’t think it would show a lot of footballing wisdom from Khaled, and you’d have to wonder who is advising him.

Comment #10Not that I believe this but Rafael is a far superior manager and Human, Mourninho is far to toxic.

Comment #12I personally don’t think there is a cat in hells chance that Rafa will walk if he knows the club are sold, I think there will be an offer on the table for him from Khaled which neither side can disclose till the sale is announced , there are still 3 weeks to before has to even make the decision, Mike is not going to sack Rafa, Rafa is not going to walk out so once the money is paid into the fat mans wallet after the premier league stop p!ssing about , Rafa will sign and the fun will start.

Comment #14Who was it that said about Rafa’s team have renewed the leases on their houses? I really would think that Rafa will be needed for continuity on day one, maybe given a one year extension, then get Mourinho in after a year?

I wouldn’t mind your opinion on a SJP related question. SJP could do with a face lift, also there may be the need to accommodate a growing fan base , taking into consideration that the council own the land, if we were to expand the stadium ,it wouldn’t ad any great value to the club. do you think that BZG may consider the proposal of a new stadium that would not be dead money and ad full valuation to the club . I will say I consider myself a traditionalist in don’t like change but looking in the direction Spurs are going does seem to be the way forward.
