Report – Newcastle In Bid For French Sensation

There is a report in L’Equippe that Newcastle United have had a failed bid for French striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The report claims that Watford, Southampton, Everton, Cardiff City, as well as Newcastle have all failed with bids of between €20-€25M for 21-year old. We find the inclusion of recently relegated Cardiff City strange as they certainly would not have recently had a bid in for the player.

Newcastle were linked with Mateta this past June before he joined current club Mainz.

His star certainly has risen this past year after joining Mainz for €10M in July from Lyon. He has been outstanding this past season in the Bundesliga scoring 14 goals in league 34 appearances.

After a sluggish start in Germany, he caught his stride and started to bang the goals in more consistently in November.

He certainly seems to know how to find the back of the net as the season before, when on-loan at Le Havre in Ligue 2, he scored 19 goals in 37 appearances.

Jean-Philippe Mateta– has attracted a flurry of bids from England

The report does intimate that Mainz would be tempted to sell at closer to between €35-40M. Were not sure if he would be a good buy at that price however.

It is interesting to note that Mateta ended up being the replacement of our very own Yoshinori Muto who left Mainz to join Newcastle last summer.

As I said this morning, maybe wouldn’t be such a bad thing as he says how high when Ashley says jump. Probably do the same for new owners. I thought maybe do a finance role again after a replacement brought in but maybe the foundation like you said

Think maybe the one thing different this time about the sale that nobody from the MA side has come out either directly or indirectly to slag off the potential buyers. Even the rags that said he had no money have backed off and gone quiet

I would hate to keep charnley. He was Ashley’s puppet, he never took the fans side and always sided with ashley. He doesn’t deserve to remain with the club after a takeover, he should follow Ashley the way he has been doing for years.
    Both would be great riddance

    Jib,
Ashley made him sleep on the terraces in his underpants as part of his penance for hiring Schteve, giving up his bonus wasn’t enough

Nor sure how people say Southgate has transformed England – they look the same bag o sh1te as always.
Still, guess they are playing the mighty Switzerland!!

If/when Nadal wins the open this afternoon he’s only two slams behind Federer, it would be a shame if he took the all time record due to his dominance on clay, hopefully Fed will win Wimbledon this year.

What an absolute mess, disarray and turmoil Ashley has got us in…

He’s agreed to sell the club,

    To a billionaire Sheik,

    He isn’t denying the speculation,

SD signs are coming down at SJP,

    He’s delisting NUFC companies,

And waiting for the FA to confirm the Khaled as a fit and proper owner.

It’s a shambles, an absolute fkn shambles.

    NOT.

The real shambles are those who say its a shambles.
