The Daily Mirror have reported in today’s transfer round-up that Newcastle along with three other Premier League clubs are monitoring the situation of Bristol City centre-back Adam Webster.
Webster moved from Ipswitch to Bristol City this past summer for £3.6M. He started 45 games for the Robins who finished in eighth in the Championship this past season.
The other clubs “monitoring” his situation are Southampton, Watford, and Burnley.
If Newcastle are looking at Webster as a possible transfer target, then it surely will only be as cover for if Ciaran Clark or Federico Fernandez were to leave.
There has been Jamaal Lascelles to Lazio rumour this past week, and Fabian Schar is sure to be on some wishlists this summer.
However, Newcastle would have to get an outrageous offer to let either of these two players leave.
And if by chance they do accept any offers, we would hope any replacements would be of the same quality.

Comment #5Just a thought to give toon22 something to accuse me of, although I’d dearly love all of the takeover talk to be correct, wishing penury and bankruptcy on MA is not necessarily a good thing as there are a lot of decent people who are dependent on him for work. Albeit they are on minimum wages but they probably do not want to be unemployed for all of that.
Do you want to see them out of work toon22?

Comment #7References to ‘The Thin Blue Line’ reminded me of Ed Pickford, a local singer who wrote a song called ‘Long Thin Line of Blue’ about the police and a demonstration in London – back in the day when we were putting the world to rights. Anyway, Ed used to appear at the Bridge Hotel folk club as well as supporting various fundraising socials that would pay for buses to wherever.
A bit early for the nightshift, but here’s a clip of Ed singing a tribute to The Bridge and all that went with it.

Comment #9With so little actual news coming out it must be hard to keep coming up with threads for the blog.
I’m sure both Ed and Neil know that we’re unlikely to see movement on transfers but it’s nice to see who the papers think we may sign.
Of course if the takeover happens we will see ridiculous names linked and if it doesn’t who the hell knows if anyone will fancy coming.

Comment #10Don’t know why these hacks keep making things up ! Exactly who at Newcastle is supposed to be monitoring these players ? Its certainly not Benitez he’s busy in his garden before looking for a new job, I cant see Charnley being involved either.

Comment #20I’ve never known a takeover to be so protracted as this, if it is indeed happening. To the best of my knowledge they tend to happen quickly but perhaps that is because they only become public knowledge when they reach their denouement.

Comment #22Novo, dunno how they work myself, but I think that’s why BZG put our those announcements – to stop us from fretting over it. They seem pretty adamant that it’s going ahead and there’s been nothing from Ashley or the club o say it isn’t. I’m in the wait n see section myself but this one does, seem different from the rest mate. Not saying it is, coz I don’t know – nobody does really – but the signs are there.

Comment #29Toon22. I agree buddy, to have a sale you have to have a vendor.
Bobby; I hope you’re right, I have the same feelings as you. It appears to be happening but Ashley is the problem. Not many Premier League clubs are sold. Is Ashley continually testing the water. If he keeps getting interest from suitors will he continue to move the goal posts?

Comment #35How about if Ashley could swap one Golden Goose for 10 freshly laid Golden Goslings, each of which has the potential to grow bigger and stronger than the one they have replaced?
Who knows what business opportunities will open for Ashley by him getting into bed with the UAE Royalty? Way more than owning one football club, no matter how big we think it is. A £350M business is not all that in the grand scheme of things, when the Burj Khalifa alone, for eg, cost three times that to build.
