There is an article in Sky Sports about the excellent crop of players at Champions League semi-finalists Ajax. The article runs through the current squad and rates their transfer potential.
The player that is of interest to Newcastle fans in the article is Ajax’s Dutch attacking midfielder Donny van de Beek.
This is what journalist Marcel van der Kraan wrote about van de Beek:
This is probably the biggest chance of a move happening this summer. If I had to put my money on a player leaving, it would be Donny van de Beek.
He is a perfect backup for many clubs. He is not the No 1 for most clubs – I have seen scouts from Tottenham, Man United, Everton, Liverpool and Newcastle at Ajax Amsterdam Arena watching him a number of times.
He is an ideal player for the Premier League, he has the skills, like most Ajax players, and a big tank so he can run all day. But all these clubs have a priority list and Van de Beek seems the perfect backup for the big clubs.
The reference to van de Beek being a back-up may be a bit misleading. Keep in mind this article was about which players at Ajax would be looking at big moves this summer like that of Frenkie De Jong’s move to Barcelona for £65M.
So the article went through current Ajax stars such as Matthijs de Ligt, David Neres, and Hakim Ziyech who will have big price tags on them. While van de Beek may not be at that level. He is a very talented player.
Donny van de Beek– Newcastle scouts have been watching him
Donny van de Beek is a product of the world reknown Ajax Academy which is one of the best academies for young prospects in existence.
Van de Beek is a twenty-two year old attacking midfielder who joined the Amsterdam club’s academy as an eleven-year old in 2008.
This past season he made 57 appearances with 17 goals and 14 assists. Overall he has played 138 times for Ajax with 31 goals.
He made his international debut in November 2017 and has 5 caps for the Netherlands.
It is comforting to know that Newcastle’s scouting team have watched Ajax this season. If only to give us some relief that the scouting aspect of the club may not be as inept in their duties as some others at Newcastle are.
Truly any club worth their salt in the top divisions of Europe should be scouting Ajax.
While he would cost a lot of money, that may not be an issue in the coming weeks if the Bin Zayed Group can finally take over Newcastle.
Donny van de Beek is an outstanding player and is of the standard that this club should rightly be linked with.
