We had done an article last month about how we thought Newcastle should go for Red Star Belgrade striker Dejan Joveljic.
The comparison to recent Real Madrid signing Luka Jovic was there to be made. Both strikers came from the Red Star academy and were available for nominal fees.
Luka Jovic took a bit of time to develop but has just made a massive move to Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt for €60M. He had just joined Frankfurt permanently this year after they made their loan deal a permanent one for just €5M from Benfica, who must be kicking themselves.
Well, Frankfurt took no time to make the connection and have just purchased Dejan Joveljic for only €4M. We will have to wait to see if this player can develop and become a world class player like Jovic.
Here is the tweet from Frankfurt announcing Joveljic:
Welcome to the Eagles, Dejan Joveljic! The 19-year-old striker has signed a five-year contract at Eintracht after joining from Red Star Belgrade. #SGEhttps://t.co/tUpBEVmZ0v
— Eintracht Frankfurt (@eintracht_eng) June 14, 2019
These are the types of deals we really hope Newcastle pursue under the Bin Zayed Group. While we obviously hope they also make the necessary first team additions, the Newcastle academy is glaringly lacking.
We would welcome a few additions like Joveljic this summer. While they may not end up becoming Luka Jovic, this is how elite squads are built.
You make a few quality additions to the first team and then you blood a few youngsters. It not only helps with team cohesion but it is fiscally sound as well.

Comment #2S-O-R-E-N-S-O-N should be our up and coming player through the academy, but he needs more games against senior professionals to prove he has the ability to go with his goal scoring record in the U23s.

Comment #5Regarding the new seats at SJP;
I thought I read, possibly on this blog, that new seats were to be installed to replace those damaged during one of the recent Rugby matches.
The cost of the seats and their installation is being met by the Rugby people. Nothing to do with the Sheik-up!

Nice one, I never thought of that, of course the seats would have had to be measured and made months in advance and a down payment with the contractors booked ahead to ensure that the work was carried out pre season, yep, I am happy with that very logical explanation.

Unless the Rugby fans were armed with Stanley knives, rusty hacksaw blades and blunt screwdrivers then there wasn’t really much more damage you could inflict on those threadbare seats.

Comment #8It is only like 2 weeks until pre-season starts. How can you run a club like this? Nobody knows anything FFS. We don’t know what Rafa knows or doesn’t. He obviously has some sort of gag order otherwise why wouldn’t he let on if he is staying or not?
We also know Fatty has form for keeping us in the dark and then doing the least he possibly can – Shearer on hold for 6 weeks, appoint the assistant and then don’t give him any transfer funds.
The only good thing is that Rafa’s options are extremely limited now so he might stay by default.

I very much doubt that the seats are custom built for SJP
Modern stadium seating are of a generic design, which will meet EU safety regulations.
The obvious variations will be cosmetic, ie, colour and branding. Seats get damaged very often, especially in the visitors section. They are replaced in a matter of days…

Comment #10Dunno about anybody else but I think it’s a shame Hazard has left the PL. Despite the obvious drawback of having to face him twice a season, the other 36 games watching him torment other defences on MOTD or live games was always a pleasure. Just a pity the takeover didn’t happen in time for the Sheikh to give us a pressie of signing him for our entertainment. 🙂

I was told last week that the seats were to be replaced, that they were shabby and quite a few damaged.
Also that Ash was charging the rugby clubs for the replacement of the seats. Stating they were damaged during the rugby matches.
Not exactly mind blowing info but shows Ash standards

Comment #13So Danny Mills says there will be an exodus of players if Rafa leaves. What inside information does he have on NUFC? NONE!!! Talking out of his arse as usual. He is completely guessing, just like I would be from 3,500 miles away.

Comment #16I’d like to see a few of our youngans given a shot at the big time, and I don’t mean cup matches. All this sending them on loan to 1st and 2nd division clubs is bollocks. Instead of worrying that failure may damage their careers, give them a chance to show what they can do. Give them the opportunity to become.
How many players have been failed by the way the club has handled their progress in the past!

Comment #17BobbyBee: I didn’t. I think India are a different class to Pakistan who got off lucky today because of the rain interruptions. Not sure how England managed to lose to this Pakistan team.

Unfortunately it doesn’t work like that, if they are good enough they play, if not they go out on loan, it does help if you have a coherent system throughout the club and competent staff to help carry out that system.

Comment #19I know that slow news is no news but there’s never an excuse for in depth discussions of cricket (I refuse to call it a game, more of an insomniathon) on a nufc blog. Cut it out people it’s not even a “footy” blog (yes I’m talking about YOU jib, prattling on about your first love Man U ha ha I remember you inadvertently complaining about getting targeted ads for their shirts 🙂 ). Aaaaaannnd… Instead of whining about Ed & Neil’s Stirling efforts to dredge up talking points out of nowhere, be inventive and do something yourself you cry babies!
Now, where was I oh yes there’s apparently another cheese festival on the horizon, I hear that the new Roqueforts are something special….I think I recall a song by Lonnie Donegan I saw him in concert just before he passed remember the occasion well Tony Blair was at the Hardwick bar buying shots for his mates in the Sedgefield Round Table so I asked him about those pesky WMD’s …..
What’s happening with the sale btw?

Comment #20Depending on the draw I think it will be an England India final. England can outhit India but I doubt they can outbowl them. Should be interesting. A double century from 60 balls from Jos Buttler should do it.

Comment #21I think Mashers has a bit of a nerve charging someone for damaging those seats, it’s like lending your drill to someone knowing the chuck is hit and miss and sticks all the time and then blaming the person who borrowed it after it comes back knackered for good. I bet the Rugby organisers will be rushing to get back to the stadium after being stitched up like that.

Comment #24Tony, no argument that India are a superior side, but it’s like a local derby when they play and I thought they might rise to the occasion being a WC game. Instead they completely capitulated. Like you, no idea how they beat us but I expected more of an effort like that than what we’ve just watched. Need to check those betting patterns!! 🙂

Comment #27Jail: all blogs tend to ramble, especially when there is no news. Twitter is even worse from what I can see by Ed’s summaries. So, until something actually happens at NUFC I expect a lot of different topics.
Or would you rather stick to one thing again, and again and again like Toon22? Hiya KBA.

Comment #28Don’t recall a rule re cricket. There’s a WC going on and sports fans will be watching it. There is a rule re politics, but it doesn’t prevent it being discussed far more regularly than cricket both now and during the football season.

Comment #29What it is I think is that if you are a NUFC fan and an England fan then you tend to be interested in sports in general so you will get some crossover. Or you can just write Bob Dylan lyrics which I have seen on here recently.

Comment #32Pogba wants to leave Manure. Even if we could afford him, at his overinflated price, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want him here. He appears to be the main culprit in the player power situation that forced Jose out. So he helped force Jose out, decided to make an effort for OGS and now wants out, leaving manure with a third rate manager. Wonder if he was working for Klippety all this time? Agent Pogba?
