This is probably the worst situation Newcastle have found themselves in since Mike Ashley acquired Newcastle back in May 2007.
And that’s saying something.
Ashley has been silent since the end of the season and here’s a chance for the Premier League to step up and show some leadership and admonish the club owner for treating his fans like dirt.
He should at least tell us what’s going on with Rafa.
The Premier League have to be very careful of owners like Ashley who make it clear from day one they don’t care much for the clubs they buy – let alone the fans.
They only care about how they can use the club as a vehicle to propel their companies forward on the world stage.
Mike Ashley – hopeless current owner of Newcastle
Here are some good comments today from some of our frustrated Newcastle fans.
So many words we could use to describe the current situation #NUFC are in and none of those words are positive. It’s an awful time to be a supporter of the club. Agonising.
— Rob Clothier (@tfRobC) June 19, 2019
At wish point does @FA intervene and acknowledge that our current owner is failing to be fit and proper?
The fans are invested in the club and surely its wish to keep the investors informed. #NUFC https://t.co/Y0k9Hga1FU— northman (@Steve42970806) June 19, 2019
Graham – you’re right – but its the fact the hierarchy are allowing Rafa’s contract to run down that is very concerning.
I keep seeing multiple people doing countdowns of days left on Rafa’s contract, you do know he can still sign a new deal after his current one has expired, literally nothing will have changed and he is already free to talk to other clubs if he wishes to do so #NUFC

12 days til Rafa’s contract runs out. #NUFC still refusing to keep generations of the clubs supporters informed.

They would be able to complete by the middle of this week. IF that doesn’t happen, it is 100% down to Mike Ashley and Peter Kenyon. If it doesn’t happen this week I worry about it happening at all!
That’s it, that’s everything I haveTake it or leave it #howaythelads #nufc

Comment #3Bambams, thanks for sharing as ever.
It does seem to be a theory which ties a few things together. Mostly circumstantial I guess, but if the circumstances fit what you know, then that makes sense.
It’s actually quite positive – it suggests that the sale is ready to go as soon as Ashley gives his consent.
If Kenyon is that closely wed to Ashley, I’ll be pleased to not have the club go to him. Sounds like it would be a proper frying pan —-> fire situation

Comment #4We should all know by now the way things work at SJP, we go through it year on year, nothing gets said until deals are done and dusted, not by MA and his crew anyway, the Sheikh’s mob have issued enough bumph and in contented with that, its always the same, we get our knickers in a twist, MA ain’t bothered about the fans, he will get the deal done his way as usual, we should know that by now, frustrating, yes of course but that’s how he rolls.

Patience wearing thin so folk start to turn on the matchgoing fans again .
They are not the shock troops people think . They vary in age, gender and reasons why they go and act individually or small groups unless and until some one or group can communicate directly with them and harness that uncoordinated power which of course is a major factor in attracting and keeping Rafa and drawing interest of prospective buyers.?
I look forward to the Blog crusade to get everyone who has SKY BT Amazon Prime or goes to pub, family or friends houses to watch to be blamed for directly or indirectly providing the ridiculous PL income that definitely does attract and retain the likes of Ashley

Puma strips are much like anything under the current NUFC dictatorship.
Cheap, nasty and only really benefitting one person.

The Sky money is the attraction to money leaching owners not the matchday revenue.
If anything its people who dont go to the match but pay for Sky that are the reason he is still here!

I’ve been supporting Newcastle United for 62 years and it’s always been “Ha….way the Lads” as in Haway man get a move on – I live in Whitley Bay north of the Tyne and I diven’t talk like them Mackems dee! The accents change all around the area! Only a few miles from me up the road at Dudley there’s a different speak and further up the road in Amble or Ashington it’s different again. I’ve got a Geordie song book from quite a few years back and it states “Haway” the Lads!
Divent ye gan tarking aboot me in the same way as the tak em & mak ems!

In relation to Kenyon trying to buy from Ash, I agree he is too close and who knows what agreements Kenyon may be forced to accept in order to get his hands on the keys to SJP.
I was once quite excited about Kenyon taking over, but in my own opinion I would much rather we had owners with no link/friendship to our current owner.
But it does look a bit more like ‘The tail wagging the dog’ re Kenyon
I am concerned that Kenyon will accept whatever deal Ash offers.

Forty shadow walkers, in forty shops.
From what I know of The Magpie Group it would be 20 shops tops, one person to light the tourch and the other to change the location!!!!

Comment #17Budge – you’re right it’s the TV money that has led to the corruption in the game through the ads space available. Think it has led to the game being sanitised as well.
As a ex centre half I watch sometimes think you’re not allowed to tackle any more. plus footballers these days in general don’t have the same affinity with the fans as say the fairs cup lads did
Anyway I digress- think you’re right the fans don’t matter to jabba just the cash

Comment #20I have no idea nor care if Jane is jib or vice versa but we do live in different times these days and posters and Blog owners need to be cautious about what comic or serious comments are made.
A comedienne caused public outcry and brought a police enquiry into a flippant remark only a week or so ago, a milkshake thrower was fined (not saying he was right or wrong but guy who threw egg at Prescott in early 00’s had no action taken against him). These are different times and social media is under increasing scrutiny and pressure to “clean up” .
Even Tsunki made a not entirely sarky comment on how he would have added a disclaimer.
I don’t believe Dubaimicky was inciting any kind of public reaction but then again I read Blog daily and “know” him and enjoy his posts but others shown his comment in isolation may feel it was intemperate.

Comment #35magscar @6 – you are spot on – as soon as things start going wrong it suddenly becomes the matchgoing fans fault. As long as there is the TV money a boycott would make no difference – yes it would attract some bad publicity for Ashley but that would be water of a duck’s back for him and it would soon be forgotten.
I’ve said many times on here if you really want to get at Ashley then it is through his SD shops. NOT firebombing or anything illegal like that but peaceful protests outside would discourage people from going in and hit profits and then Ashley would sit up and take notice. This would obviously have to be coordinated through groups such as TMG.

Comment #38“here’s a chance for the Premier League to step up and show some leadership and admonish the club owner for treating his fans like dirt.”
Pretty sure there’s no part of the fit and proper test that says you HAVE to communicate with the fans.
I hate what Ashley’s done to the club, but:
Has he put us in a perilous financial situation where we could be bankrupt?
Has he used NUFC to do anything illegal?
Has he brought the FA or PL into disrepute?
Has he broken any laws? (Tax debacle TBC)
The answer is no. So as much as we hate his asset striping, free advertising for SD, poor management choices, lack of communication and ambition, changing the stadium name, even dodgy ethical stuff like having Wonga for a sponsor, none of it breaches the fit and proper test. So let’s stop this nonsense that the PL need to jump in and do something because they don’t and they won’t.

Comment #40This Graham Hodgson on twitter that Ed quotes above as saying that nothing changes if Rafa’s contract expires is misreading the situation. WE WILL HAVE NO MANAGER at a critical time with preseason starting 3 days later. Everything will grind to a halt because there is nobody to step in. I am assuming Rafa’s coaches are tied to a similar time frame. If they are, we won’t have anybody to take training.
Sure, Rafa could agree to sign a few days later if Ashley makes concessions but who knows. And we have seen it before. Fatty was willing to let the club be in limbo for 6 weeks when we were relegated the first time.
What happens with any transfer business that Rafa is working on if his contract runs out?
Saying that nothing changes if Rafa’s contract runs out is stupid in the extreme. But it is twitter, so what should I expect.
