The Shields Gazette interviewed Dubai resident and Geordie Peter Redding a day or two ago.
Peter works for Capital Radio out in the United Arab Emirates and provided some much-wanted insight into BZG and Sheikh Khaled.
Redding has been a radio and TV sports presenter, and pundit for more than a decade now.
This is some of the insight Peter Redding gave to the Gazette during the Q and A interview.
“Sheikh Khaled Bin Zayed Al Nehayan is a well-respected business pioneer of the UAE, of that there is no doubt.”
“A little look at his CV shows how qualified the man is – he is a graduate of Boston University, and he has completed his Ph.D. course work in finance from Michigan State University.”
“He is the chairman and founder of the Bin Zayed Group – established in 1988.”
“Given his wealth you only have to look at the company’s trading and profits.”
“Here in the UAE local business people do not speak of wealth it is known as Haram (forbidden in Islamic law).”
“But it is definitely safe to say he is a serious player.”
“As far as a deal currently – I think the silence is key. And that can definitely be seen as a positive.”
“I have open contact with BZG and, speaking to them, I feel a deal to buy Newcastle United is not far away.”
“Knowing the culture of the UAE and being involved in sport, this is no smokescreen as viewed by many back in the UK.”
“This group are the real deal.”
“I think the BZG group are looking to replicate foreign ownership from the likes of Man City and PSG.”
“While I don’t think that kind of wealth is an option I can see this being huge for Newcastle United.”
That’s very good (and positive) information from Peter Redding.
If we only read what BZG have said things seem (very) positive.
But it’s the club’s leaked information to the Chronicle that has confused things, with Mike Ashley still saying he has yet to receive a formal offer from BZG.
This needs to be sorted out and sooner rather than later.
But we’ve been saying that for nearly four weeks now.
And time marches on.
Comments welcome.

Comment #241I’ve just read this in The Mag
https://www.themag.co.uk/2019/06/absolutely-disgraceful-from-steve-harmison-on-rafa-benitez-but-he-has-got-form-nwcastle-united/
There seems to be a few Inconsistencies in the report.

Is it common in buying businesses for heads of terms to be changed after they’ve been agreed? I cant see that being very popular in the business world.
Unfortunately our horrible owner thrives on being unpopular.

Comment #244What you have to bear in mind is that Ashley will not disclose anything to anybody, he is very, very, particular about his business affairs. Everything will be controlled to his satisfaction, nothing will be leaked that is why NDAs are being used.
It is very clear that there are happenings at SJP, the club are saying nowt there is a reason for that Charnley would be out on his ear if he let the cat out of the bag. I am confident the sale is happening its just the case of when…

Comment #245Within a quoted price there are many variables & when talking about a multi million pound deal that’s extremely complex & time consuming
If you look @ Ashley’s actions re Rangers he puts great value in merchandising & other revenue streams & therefore these must be part of any deal
I said the other day the deal was done but that doesn’t mean everything will then happen straight away & announcement’s made – as far as I’m aware no one from the Club or BZG have ever mentioned a date
Rafa has an offer from the Club on the table – this is public knowledge – my guess is although talks between him & people @ BZG have happened in no way can Rafa agree anything with them until the transaction is done

Comment #248I don’t get this. Do people really believe Mike Ashley has the whip hand here? This is not the case. Why would an Arab multi-billionaire be bothered one way or the other is this deal goes through or not. There are plenty of football clubs out there who would welcome this opportunity for investment.

Comment #251Never mind SD stores being firebombed, if Ashley screws this sale up due to his insatiable greed then he deserves to be personally firebombed.!!

Comment #254How can anyone say “done deal”? If it were done and dusted the NDA would terminate and there’d be an announcement. Something is holding up any “deal” which means and an almost deal is the same thing as no deal! No done deal until there’s an official announcement.

Comment #255Elmanio I have seen what Darren Gough said today i have met him a few times at the cricket nice lad cant see he has any reason to lie so if he says he has seen evidence of Mike is p***ing about and moving the goalposts whenever a deal seems close i will take him on face value
I understand your info comes from people close to mike no offence intended towards your good self but i would not trust anything that comes from that fat slugs side

I am more confident than not that it will happen. I am even more so after your post. Your 100% right why would an arab multi billionaire stick about if Ashley was playing games he would just go and buy another club.

Comment #264First game at SJP Len white (he had massive thighs), and George Eastham played too, we were beaten 1-2 by Arsenal, soon after Eastham left to play for them. Long time ago!!
I also saw wor Jackie in a testimonial game at Gatesheed stadium he scored a screamer from fully 35 yards out those casers were like rocks it was an incredible strike from a great man..

Comment #266I have listened to Darren Gough on the cricket and he is very entertaining and likes to tell a story. He wouldn’t be the first to exaggerate what they know and how close they are to someone. I really don’t think him or Harmison have any reason to lie but if you’re on the radio you might turn something a bit boring into more than it is.
Funny how these cricketers know so much about NUFC all of a sudden.

Comment #267Other than the official statement from BZG and the confirmation from the club followed by no comment, the rest is hear say and conjecture, monochrome, lawyers and rafa staying silent all reeks of a takeover in my opinion, too many small details stopping me from losing faith this time add to that the loss of face in the UAE…. Its happening

Comment #270Bill you are correct there are plenty of football clubs out there who would welcome this opportunity for investment but you are underselling our club… There are not a lot of Prem Clubs left like ours that can truly be huge clubs like Liverpool, ManU, Citeh etc. I give you:
Exhibit A – St. James Stadium (new stadiums that fit crowds our size are big money) what a beauty
Exhibit B – Rabid local fanbase with long history, great traditions and turnout (even when the team is piss poor)!
Exhibit C – The other obvious top – Liverpool, London and Man City are full up
Don’t think there’s a choicer opportunity if you want to build a legacy.

Comment #274I’m not underselling our club. We have to be objective not subjective. Living outside of the NE, I can tell you that NUFC is not held in the esteem that we hold it. When did we last win anything? There are other clubs out there that could be just as successful, given the opportunity. I know that we could fill the stadium week in, week out, but how many would turn up to watch Aston Villa or Leeds, if they were successful. Also, as we know, these days, gate money isn’t what it used to be. All I’m saying, is that MA is not in charge here.

Again I’m sorry I can’t give that information for same reason as above
What I can say is Justin Barnes is always the lead negotiator in any deal involving Ashley
This is publicly known information if you dig a bit online

Jun 21, 2019 at 9:45 PM
Comment #276Something that might back up my theory on this is the way that the companies that MA broke us into are being brought back into the fold, as I understand it. This would be exactly what I would do if I was buying an entity that had been broken up. I would say, “I want the whole club as you bought it” otherwise forget it.
