Winger Linked To Greek Club With Newcastle Ties

According to Greece’s SDNA, Panathinaikos are very interested in our out of favor winger Rolando Aarons. They also have a link to Newcastle’s past at their club.

Panathinaikos, who finished 8th in the Greek Superleague, has former Newcastle defender Nikos Dabizas as their technical director.

Dabizas made 158 appearances for Newcastle from 1998-2003. He was bought from Olympiacos under the disappointing term of Kenny Dalglish.

Here is a match winner by Nikos Dabizas from 2002 against Sunderland:

That goal was at the Stadium of Light and was the first of five straight wins against Sunderland.

Rolando Aarons– should be moved this summer

After a serious ankle injury early in our Championship campaign, Aarons has not really been in Rafa Benitez’s plans. He has not featured for Newcastle since a late December 2017 start against Manchester City.

In what was a promising start at Newcastle, his career has been decimated time and again by injuries.

Aarons still has two years remaining on his contract and last season made two loan spells. His first was to Czech club Slovan Liberec where he made thirteen appearances.

Rolando spent the second half of last year at Sheffield Wednesday making just ten appearances, though at times he played quite well.

The issue for Dabizas and Panathinaikos, like so many of our fringe players, is going to be wages. The report states that the Greek club can only afford to pay Aarons a fraction of what he currently earns.

While Panathinaikos may try to get Aarons on loan for the season, we would imagine that Rolando’s time is up at Newcastle and if he could be moved on a permanent deal that would be best for club and player.

TomaKaThor – we should keep a list of dates where this so-called takeover is happening, and who said them, and then scratch them off as the dates comes and go. If it really does happen then someone is going to get it right eventually because even a stopped clock is right twice a day!

So I guess the fat man thought the Mansours couldn’t take the club forward either.

The fat man claims he is not a ”pantomime villain” I couldnt think of a better phrase for him.

As someone on twitter said KK walked away from Ashley and the club he loved, a shame others won ‘t do the same on principle.

Of this takeover ever happens I would love to see Keegan and Shearer in some capacity with a role at the club. Maybe as ambassador or coach, youth coach or something.

Jib: everybody says it is the bat and fitness. That’s only part of it. I said this to Bobbybee, it is the white ball more than anything. It doesn’t seam and it doesn’t swing. At this level if the ball comes at you straight you can get yourself set and play your shots.

Also Jib: Rashid will get killed by the good teams and should not play. He telegraphs his variations and bowls for max spin on every ball. You can spot the leggy because it is 2 balls outside leg and the googly is 2 balls outside off.

    Tony B.

KK allegedly asked for 7M to buy a player whom he regarded as the missing piece of the jigsaw, ie from runners up to champions. They turned him down. After everything the guy had achieved and the dark place he had taken us from I think he was a little bit entitled don’t you.

Jib, against this England batting line-up, they could have scored another 120 and still not thought they had a chance.

If they finish on 230ish, that’s quite pitiful by modern standards.

Tony, I think when it comes to the movement of the ball, you have to factor in atmospheric and ground conditions. The venues all have big stands now, limiting any breeze, the pitches are covered and the grass tends to be a uniform length on every pitch.

20-30 years ago, you’d get a spitting green-top with a 20mph crosswind and have no idea how the ball was going to behave, no matter what colour it was.

Agree the white ball is a factor too, but for a tournament format it’s probably a good thing to use a ‘neutral’ ball, rather than a Kookaburra or a Dukes which will skew the whole cup towards a few teams, one way or the other.

Robleenio: the crowds want the big scores and the full 50 overs for both teams. White ball makes sense for that but the commentators never really mention it. I have no idea why not. Better entertainment for the casual cricket fan though.
