There is a report in the Daily Star primarily about the task ahead of Lee Charnley to find a suitable replacement for Rafa Benitez.
Though early in the report, the article claims that Mourinho’s representatives have disassociated themselves from the Newcastle job.
Here is what is written in the Daily Star:
Jose Mourinho’s representatives have distanced their man from the job but managing director Lee Charnley remains confident the club will have a high calibre of candidates to choose from.
There are no quotes or sources for this statement but this is actually what would make the most sense currently.
Well excluding the part about Lee Charnley, who can remain confident all he likes but still isn’t fit for purpose.
Why would Jose Mourinho, arguably the most famous manager in the world, come to Newcastle United under its current structure? Well, he wouldn’t.
Yet he remains the odds on favorite for the position. It makes you wonder what is going on. Surely the only chance of Mourinho coming to Newcastle would be if there was a take over by new owners with some clout.
Could there be some inside knowledge that the BZG group is getting close? As was widely speculated late last month, Mourinho could be their preferred choice.
The next few weeks before the players report back for training on July 4 are going to be pivotal for the supporters of this club.
If a new manager is appointed then the likelihood of an imminent takeover is very minimal. Or is it?
We have to go back to something Sam Allardyce said in the interview he gave this morning.
Sam stated the following:
In my time, I was between Freddy Shepherd and Mike taking it.
Sam Allardyce was appointed the manager of Newcastle United on May 15, 2007. Mike Ashley bought Sir John Hall’s 41.6% stake in Newcastle United on May 23, 2007.
So hope will remain ever present even if Ashley appoints another “yes man”.

Rafa hasn’t signed the contract put to him by MA.
If he is in the knows about BZG why would he?
If MA knows the takeover is on and BZG have decided they don’t want Rafa MA has done the dirty deed for them.
If MA knows the takeover is not going to happen and Rafa won’t sign his ‘take it or leave it’ contract then MA releasing that statement lets every potential manager know the job is up for grabs.
One of those is true, which one?

Comment #42I still feel something is going on with regards to a takeover not sure if it will happen next few weeks though we will see if manager is appointed if he is giving short contract and also who it is
To much evidence/ coincidences for it to be set up
And if it was a set up would mean no NDA in place meaning the Dubai guy could talk freely and shoot it down straight away but the fact they haven’t suggests they are at least trying to negotiate however not sure Mike Ashley wants to sell he might say he does but have major doubt’s hope I’m wrong
Also with the guy saying a meeting taking place today how can this be possible if the owner is in the USA

Defending MA and trying to claim he helped us when it was his idiocy that caused the relegations

From earlier discussion sorry been busy until now and haven’t even caught up beyond your response
I took this part of your post to mean ST holders or at least match goers as i couldn’t correlate who else fitted……..
”
The people moaning about Rafa are the same people who’d do nothing to get Ashley out if asked.
Put up and shut up because a lot of you are embarrassing yourselves, you should be ashamed that you’ve allowed this to happen without lifting a finger.
Enablers, some of you may as well work for Bishop or Ashley because you’ve sat and allowed the club to be tret like a unloved toy by a shitehawk. Shame on you!

Well said OO. It’s been like this on here for years. Mention a boycott and people come on and scream that they have no intention of missing matches. Then they are the first to come on and moan about Ashley. Pathetic.”
So first off – no you didn’t specifically state ST holders on looking back, so taking you at your word (though I stlll don’t know exactly who you were referring to) I will apologise for assuming that you did.
Secomd – G2 by his comments above agreeing with you had also made me think of matchgoers/ST holders ( as had he?) as being the target – not I thing a jump into fantasy land
Thirdly – the tendency of people who have posted for years and have a following (as evidenced by people regularly hearting you and referencing your posts) surely should be aware that by describing people in general terms but no more, causes confusion such as
– others fitting other posters into their scenario but you didn’t mean them at all
– others who you did in fact mean not recognising themselves so carry on regardless and don’t even think to defend themselves
– posters defending themselves because they feel they were being included but you didn’t mean them
…… and so on
The fact we are having this discussion and G2s comment demonstrates that confusion can indeed be caused but may be you think it’s just us ?
Finally I fail to see what I may or may not have done in my time ( over 50 years) as a NUFC supporter in any way weakens my argument here but has seemingly got right under your skin
However as you raise matter – I am nearly 70 , gave up my ST last year for personal and family reasons and living 100 miles away found travelling becoming increasingly difficult every 2 weeks or so and on varying days of week and times of day.
There weren’t any protests in my latest 2 years of having a ST for myself and grandson i.e.up to 2017/18 around ground or at SD whilst I was up there.
Protest last season by Magpie Group had my backing ( look back on Blog) but no way having given up ST’s was I going to do 200 mile round trip to attend an evening meeting Iin Labour or Irish club or join match day protests – I know I’m so selfish
Before that and as per discusion with Bill last night I have chanted “sack the Board” etc outside Directors entrance and on terraces ( no bricks through windows) over several years. I moved away in 1973 to Guisborough . started a family, have brought them all up as NUFC fans taken them to ground as and when I could afford and get there and similarly with some of my 7 grandchildren from whee I have lived since 1982.
I held ST from when KK returned but had been going to matches before then (200 mile round trips) , even in Div2 under rubbish managers and owners because they were my team ( many on here have no conception of how that can feel),. Oddly gave it up when Ashley took over! I never bought into the fanfare of rich owner, his wearing strip in away Directors box and down the pub with the lads in Bigg Market or Strawberry (believe what you wlll) but he wasn’t the main reason.
During time i previously had my ST in 90’s and 00’s, I joined “Save our Seats” protests, signed petiitions and contributed to fighting fund. Good years -here weren’ t many Hall or Shepherd out calls although there were some incidents worthy of Ashley by Freddie and Douglas Hall
So nothing recently I’m afraid ( apart from writing to Club poste don here re Chronicle ban and to Newsnow when tried to ban Ed) but nothing to apologise for either but you may differ
Might I suggest you stick to arguing your point ( as you are fully welcome to do and can) rather than try to insult other long term posters who are trying not defend themselves but others he sees as being anonymously and possibly unfairly maligned.
I had no intention of wasting my and your time on this topic but I am sick of people who make their own informed choice to go then being castigated and solely blamed for Ashley still being here
Some who do attack arguably have some understanding as former ST’s holders themselves but should neverheless respect individual choice. Others don’t have a clue what they are asking fans of many years to sacrifice and without having to so themselves. I think it was NY Mag last night who said didn’t feel comfortable 3000 miles expecting others to give up what he couldn’t – a noble sentiment
If 000’s do boycott one or matches then good luck – i used to be concerned at effect on team but if things don’t improve then it becomes increasingly likely and hard to dispute any longer.
Right catch up with rest of posts om what seems another large batch and then may be a break away oas it is getting to fractious rather than being consoling or uniting in our common passion and upset – shame really

Even after Harvey’s time the Westwood’s and McKeag’s sold Supermac, Alan Kennedy, Terry McDermott, Beardsley, Gasgoigne and Waddle – all legends in the game worldwide and four of them home grown Geordies.

I remember a time (2011-13) when I used to comment on this blog and consistently, justifiably called for mass protests against Ashley. A leopard doesn’t change its spots I said. He’s only interested in milking our cash, I said. At that time Ed implicitly supported Ashley by never writing articles which criticized him. Everyday commenters such as Ibiza and WWBRD, Rotonda, and many more, implicitly supported Ashley by remaining stoically impartial/apathetic. People like Bill’s Son, G and davytoon69 (or something similar) explicitly and constantly supported and praised Ashley with absolutely no justification aside from a seemingly blind, nonsensical trust in his benevolence. To most commenters back then I was in the minority of ‘neggers’ because I pointed out the things he has done to damage our club even back then. A negger because I encouraged protest and boycotts against a man with zero footballing ambition as proven by his actions even then. But most didn’t want to accept the facts of Mr Cash. It was always about how he’d come clean in the next transfer window and demonstrate his true ambition. Well, that never happened. I said many times that I’d be quick to forgive if he repaired the damage he’d done and began investing in the club to at the very least propel us to a level above dismally surviving each season. I said I’d hold my hands up if I was wrong about him and his 5 year plan didn’t, after all, turn out to be yet more fan-appeasing tripe. I wonder if Bill’s Son has returned to admit he was wrong or to take up a new position of condescension upon the new generation of commenters on this blog? I wonder if those who blindly or wilfully supported Ashley financially are ready to say enough is enough yet?

Comment #65So because a past regime was allegedly worse than the current one people don’t have a right to complain or protest now?
I don’t see the point in comparing one leech with another, especially given the completely different contexts. It just reads as ‘we had it worse so suck it up’ which is arrogant, patronising and fruitless.
Maybe you Old Head’s can think of something more useful to contribute to the younger generations of Toon fans than your nostalgic lamentations.

Comment #67It’s obvious BZG are being squeezed out by Ashley – they won’t be our new owners.
I’m not even sure Ashley is selling the whole club, he has it compartmentalised into so many subsidiaries I can see him selling a stake to the US investors who can’t raise the full amount.
He only bought the club as an advertising vehicle and then realised it costs money to keep it as a going concern. Maybe he’s found a way to offload some of the risk/expense whilst maintaining the advertising as he plots a business foray into the US?
I was a die hard believer of the Dubai takeover but I don’t think it will happen now.
When Ashley said he’d only sell to someone who could take the club forward he meant someone who would take him forward and promote his business interests.

The last time I was on here c3 years ago I stopped defending the decisions made by Ashley – but irrespective I don’y need to be lectured by you or anyone else on here for expressing opinions or changing them later on.
No disrespect to fans who started supporting the club in KK’s era, but if you think that was the norm at NUFC you couldn’t be more wrong. Since going to my first game in 1961 I’ve seen far, far worse owners, lack of ambition and utter crap managers and players than we’ve had in the past 12 years under MA.
That doesn’t show MA in any good light, it just proves how bad the previous lot were, even the Hall’s and Shepherd’s had their hand in the till and hocked the club up to the eyeballs rather than put a penny of their own money in.
MA getting rod of Rafa is bad, but it pales in comparison to the dirt dished out to Sir Bobby who took us from relegation certs to a top 5 side, the Champs League and still got humiliatingly sacked for ‘only’ finishing 5th the previous season and having a not so good start to the next. And don’t forget our fellow Geordie owners Shepherd and Douglas Hall called our lasses slags and us fans idiots for buying tat replica shirts from China that the club were creaming it on. If MA had said that fans would be tearing down SD and burning his effigy.
I now want MA out as much as the next fan – but he didn’t follow previous saintly, fan loving owners and there isn’t any guarantee that those that follow will have halo’s round their heads either.

It’s not about lecturing I was just curious to see if you’d admit you were wrong. But it seems that is a stretch for an ego such as yours. They say humility comes with age but, clearly not. Arguably your past opinions are part of the reason we are still stuck with Ashley. It’s people like you who vehemently defended his actions and (even now it seems, play down his crimes against not only our beloved club but also our city) who regurgitated his rhetoric and spread his toxic lies amongst younger fans who resisted solidarity and mass action against him and thus perpetuated his grip upon our club. Then now you go on a complete tangent to bestow your wisdom upon us about past regimes as if you’ve had it worse than us young uns so we have no right to complain. Same old Belittling Bill and his condescension. Change the record. I don’t know what I find more annoying, your nonsensical opinions or the tone in which you impart them to all and sundry. Sad thing is your knowledge could probably be quite useful if only it could get past your pig-headed self-fellatory pride before leaving your gob.
I honestly have no idea why you are rambling on about past owners, nobody has said this is the worst ownership in the history of NUFC, nobody is claiming previous owners were saintly. People have a right to be frustrated with the current regime regardless of what has happened in previous eras. This is a wholly different situation with a different set of circumstances and context. I don’t consider Hall and Shepherd saintly but the stadium was hugely modernised and expanded under them and the club was put back on the map. Fans travelled Europe watching our team and neutrals spurred on our host of international talent. They brought Bobby home too so your sly digs seem hypocritical and pointless. Comparing Rafa’s sacking with Bobby’s is also pointless but I’d say both pale in comparison with Ma’s treatment of footballing and club legends KK and Alan Shearer. Perhaps you’ll have something negative to say about them two too. Wouldn’t surprise me, you were always the true ‘negger’ Bill’s Son, cynical, toxic and singularly arrogant until the end. I almost feel like applauding you on somehow retaining your twatful attitude despite what must have been a humbling deterioration of your wilful ignorance toward Ashley. Only 3 years ago… i do wonder, what epiphany suddenly enlightened you to our owners contempt for our club? I’d find it astonishing if you believed that everything that happened before that moment 3 years ago was fair play by him and that something occurred to awaken you. No. His crimes were far long before that and you defended them, passionately and with sincerity. You sir, are an absolute tit and you owe the rest of us an apology.
