Craig Hope has written for the Daily Mail that both Burnley manager Sean Dyche and Manchester City assistant manager Mikel Arteta are being considered as Rafa Benitez’s successor.
While Mikel Arteta has yet to be tested as a manger, he has been an assistant to Pep Guardiola since 2016 alongside Brian Kidd (who I met through my father in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida as a child in 1983).
Sean Dyche has, of course, done extremely well at Burnley where he was appointed manager in 2012. He previously had managed Watford for a brief period before being let go by a new owner.
Sean Dyche– prior to Rafa, we would have welcomed him with open arms
While Sean Dyche has done notably well at Burnley, keeping them in the Premier League and even achieving a seventh place finish in 2018, we just aren’t as excited about him as we would have been in the time before Rafa.
This is the problem that will face Mike Ashley, Lee Charnley, and any new manager that is appointed. When compared to Rafa Benitez, you can’t help but contort one side of your face into the universal look of apprehension. It’s the law of physics.
To be fair, we have always respected Sean. He has done well with limited resources at Burnley where he has a 38% win percentage over 306 matches between the Premier League and the Championship.
Mikel Arteta– could be good but who knows?
Mikel Arteta is an interesting candidate in that you don’t really know what you are getting. He could become very successful as he has been an apprentice under world class manager Pep Guardiola.
Or he could be John Carver who despite being an assistant to Bobby Robson, we still somehow managed to produce the tail end of 2015. You just never know.
Though, Vincent Kompany seems to think that Arteta is made of the right stuff to succeed Pep at Manchester City. This is what he said when taking the helm at Anderlecht and asked if he could ever manage Manchester City:
“Let me start with this. Let City be City under Pep, which is an awesome club.
“And behind Pep there is Mikel Arteta, who has a lot of knowledge and is the right man to look at.”
At this point, we are still pining for Rafa Benitez. Anyone else is just not to our liking.

The NUFC social media accounts have been pushing loads of stuff on Jonjo being in early. So I presume if Dummet is in pre-season early they will be plastering it all over their social media today.

Comment #129ShirebrookToon, it’s not difficult to find Midhat’s number. I took the number from the twitter screenshots and googled it…hey-presto, it returned press release documents from business Projects hes been on; with his BZG email and mobile number! Save that into your phone and you get his whatsapp.

Comment #131It couldn’t very well be Midhat but what concerns me when asked about the takeover still happening he said in a different manner?? What could that mean? Are the reports true yesterday about Ashley’s lawyers having the paperwork but not forwarding it to the premier league? Could be something in it but then the concern is why are Ashley’s people making it difficult? We all know how Ashley moves the goalposts so if he is doing this to the BZG makes me less confident a deal will get done.

Comment #136Mund, my take on all these screens of chats with Midhat…he hasnt said anything directly re a takeover. He merely gives a few word answers to get everyone of his back – who can blame him!!
Still strange that he replies to random numbers that he doesnt know!

Comment #137I doubt the next manager will be any good for the club, as the big names always want to win things, they don’t want to battle relegation, or finish top ten. This is what Mourinho had to say about the NUFC job:-
” If somebody gives me a wonderful 10-year contract and the objective of the team is to stay in the first half of the table and if you finish seventh, eighth or ninth, it’s perfect, then that’s not for me. That’s my nature. My next (goal) is to fight to win.”
I think any other manager worth his salt would feel the same way. The only thing that can save our club is for the takeover to go through so we have the money and ambition to compete. With Jabba in America, one can only hope that a stray American bullet finds a way to the back of his head, but even that would be too good for Jabba after the 12 years of torment he has put the Geordie nation through.

I saw lots of people (not of any importance) suggesting that maybe it could be that they are not going for a full takeover straight away so they can get some influence in before the window shuts and manager appointment.
I don’t know how feasible that is. Certainly something to throw into the ideas pot.

Comment #145@Mund – never in a million years would anyone, especially an experienced businessman with a very prestigious law firm behind him, have someone else submit the relevant paperwork for any tests or similar process with the FA. It wouldn’t even be allowed. That’s like buying a house and telling the builder he’s free to get anyone he can do his own survey and fill in his own CML form.
My rule of thumb on all of this is simple; if it sounds stupid or far fetched file it as not true.

Defo strange. Can we take it as a good sign? I am but only because I’ll take anything right now just to make my day a little brighter.
Foggy
I saw that as well but what’s changed? Is it Ashley? Or something else? If Ashley has been making it difficult then that says he doesn’t want to sell. He has a buyer who would be able to take us forward to the next level which Ashley says he wouldn’t sell to any other buyer than that and they clearly have the money. Sadly points to more that he doesn’t want to sell but like a few reports he might be buying his friend Kenyon some time.
Head is battered just want to know what’s happening good or bad we fans deserve that after this rollercoaster of a month.
