The Daily Mail are now reporting that Newcastle United have contacted Porto manager Sergio Conceicao about his interest in the vacant Newcastle manager position.
Earlier there was a very brief report in Sky Sports that Sergio Conceicao was interested in the position.
The Daily Mail confirm that piece of information but also add the following:
Sportsmail understands Conceicao has been spoken to by officials from the St James’s Park club and he would open to making the move from Portugal.
If true this would be excellent news. We would love for a young manager to take the helm at Newcastle even if some think that would pose a greater risk.
Sergio Conceicao– should I succeed Rafa at Newcastle?
Sergio Conceicao has done excellently in his progression as a manager and has turned Porto around after financial difficulties and poor finishes.
Football BH’s Daniel Lusted did this excellent write up of Conceicao’s unique tactical style. It is superb and in depth. One thing that we gather from reading it is we will definitely need some new fullbacks in he comes in, but we already needed that.
There is also this video from Tifo Football from the 2017/18 season prior to Porto winning the Portuguese Super Liga for the first time in 5 years which further details his tactical style.

Comment #41This is what .com said about our home match vs Inter Milan 2002/3 season
Match officials all from Portugal, as is the villainous Conceicao who continually toppled over in the manner of an actor trying to learn the part of JFK. We would have been better off with the bald Italian Collina in charge.
SBR fancied buying Sergio Conceicao until he saw him play at SJP in the Champions League

Comment #42Worst case scenario is that any new manager under an Ashley regime is unlikely to rock the boat with talk of upgrading or building a new Training Centre, expanding the Academy set up speaking out of turn on transfers.
If that happens Ashley is rolling around on his back laughing as he’s saved £4m on manager salary and a good few million more on no projects and limited transfer activity.
The only hope is inward investment from new owners who will allow the new manager who they appoint to deliver on all the above.
2 days to the Financial Year End
2 days to the end of Rafa’s contract – he’s still employed by NUFC until then
6 days to the players are back for training and then the tour to China
Apart from the usual inane chatter from journos and twatter feeds it’s very quiet out there.

Comment #44Not in the mood for any of this new manager guff.
Northern Echo are latest to recycle bookies favourites and other newspapers candidates “shortlists” by repeating back stories without having been given a clue
At best they may get a quote like “yes currently drawing up a shortlist ” or “overwhelmed with lot of applications” but in reality don’t have a clue in what seems to be inertia nearly a week after the public announcement that Rafa ‘s contract wasn’t to be renewed.
I am still pinning my hopes on club is in holding pattern whilst sale announcement is being readied but need to appear to be doing something so allow the side circus of new manager to fill the pages.
If the latest shared news (which I welcome) doesn’t come to pass I really think I’m going to have to step away from here and even Newsnow to keep my sanity until season due to start.

Comment #46Repost – just to get it out there.
Been asked to post this from London Magpies & Wayayman
There are some Geordie fans meeting at the Orange Tree Pub in Totteridge, N20 8NX on Saturday at 2pm, they then plan a little walk down the road to ashLIE’s house after the odd beer or three, if anyone would like to join them? They know he’s not there but security will have to inform him of the loud, vociferous yet peaceful demo.

Let’s look at the list of buyers who have surfaced.
Barry Moat
Mysterious rumoured unnamed Chinese, Russian and American ‘billionaires’.
Amanda Staveley
Peter Kenyon
BZG
Not ONE of those has come out and said they matched MA’s price and he moved the goalposts.
Moat had fcuk all money, Staveley and Kenyon were fronts for groups and the dosh never materialised and/or they wanted to pay in installments and the jury is out on BZG.
There is more evidence, in my opinion, that the supposed buyers are the bull$hitters here not MA,

So these buyers go to all of the trouble to do due dilligence and the money it costs just to say at the end btw we haven’t got any money. Aye, right.
As for your list of managerial appoints being acceptable I’ll get back to you later on that one.

Comment #53I note someone mentioned Bobby’s absence and given his health issues I also hope he’s ok.
I suspect that a more likely explanation is that following Rafa going , calls for match boycotts etc he guessed he will be caught up in endless posts defending his strongly held views to no avail and can’t see the point in rehearsing the same old arguments in the usual polarised debates ( nah slanging matchs) which are becoming more heated.

Credit where credits due. Some people in this world score higher than others on the sociopath and psychopath scales, our boy Mikey here is way off the scale, they tend to be the most successful at all costs.

Comment #60Some very illogical poorly thought out arguments.
(what’s new !)
On the one hand posters saying Ashley doesn’t give a fig
for NUFC , its manager or fans.
Then stating he fakes a sale every season cos he’s worried
about the opinions of the fans he isn’t supposed to care about.

Comment #63Ashley has had twelve good years of free advertising and milking the revenue streams , not to mention his manipulation of the club’s accounts by breaking the club up into a myriad of companies to create a tangled web of deceit in order to syphon money out and avoid tax with his so called loans to the club.
No amount of spin or declarations of intent to allow the club to spend its own money etc. will wash anymore. We are all aware as fans , as are most of the media now, that the fat parasite is not interested in the club other than as a revenue stream and advertising vehicle for him personally.
Surely in the light of all this he should just wipe his mouth and sell up for the best deal that’s on the table. Not wor Mikey . His innate greed prevents him from letting go of all that free advertising and opportunities to continually dip his fat fingers in the till.
Therefore when the likes of Bills Son is Back suggests that all the recent attempts to buy the club , despite the huge costs of due diligence and legal representation , are just hot air from people wanting to waste their time and money in a vain attempt to prove to the world that they are in fact skint members , it serves only to remind us that fatty will do all he can to hold on to his golden goose.

Comment #65Also spot the correlation in timing when MA buys and sells SD shares.
He does something moronic with his club, sh*t hits the fan with the fans who protest and SD gets dragged in to the firing line.
SD share prices drop.
MA buy the shares.
MA gives a snippet of an impression that he can make some decent decisions for the club, eg Rafa…
SD share pricss increase
MA sells the shares.
Rinse and repeat.

Comment #70Potentially Ashley has a Jaguar dealership on his hands but runs it like a spivvish second-hand car-salesman.
If he’d possessed more courage and vision, with a bit of luck he could have had it all — a club worth four times what he paid for it, the love and gratitude of a city, and respect as a shrewd business operator rather that a rag trade hustler.
Instead he’ll go down as a mean loser who refused to seek the silver lining lurking behind the Tyneside clouds. (Mirror)
