Mark Douglas of the Chronicle has sent out a tweet concerning information he is hearing from Manchester United contacts.
This is what Mark has tweeted:
Seems #mufc reporters being heavily briefed from somewhere that a Sean Longstaff deal could be done for £25m. #nufc said a few weeks ago not for sale.
I really don't want to see him go: #nufc best young talent should developing at the club. Plus would send out the wrong message.
— Mark Douglas (@MsiDouglas) June 28, 2019
He is claiming that Manchester United reporters are being told that a £25m deal for Sean Longstaff could be done.
He also adds that NUFC said a few weeks ago that Sean Longstaff was not for sale. Sean also came out on NUFC TV earlier this month and spoke about how it was his dream to play a full season at St James Park.
This was all before the developments on Monday when Mike Ashley announced that Rafa Benitez would not be returning as Newcastle manager.
Sean Longstaff and Rafa Benitez– a sight we’ll never witness again
That single act of not being able to compromise in order to keep a world-class manager and a guarantee of success could have repercussions for this club for the foreseeable future.
This Sean Longstaff affair is shaping up just like the Andy Carroll one from January 2011. Mike Ashley had Alan Pardew parade himself in front of the media and make declaration after declaration that Andy Carroll was not for sale. Only to sell the local striker to Liverpool for £25m at the last minute.
Alan Pardew had just come into the club that prior December after Mike Ashley ruthlessly fired Chris Hughton after he had brought the club back into the Premier League and had them well positioned in the League.
If Mike Ashley sells Sean Longstaff this summer that will be another low point in the history of this club and will rival the Andy Carroll transfer. This one will take Newcastle fans to an even greater level of outrage as they will have just come off the loss of their beloved manager Rafa Benitez and then to have a local lad coming into his own be taken from us will be too much in my opinion.
While this is all speculation and there have been no solid reports of even a bid being made, we are just very concerned with everything to do with this club at the moment.

In Ashley’s eyes £25M for a kid who has 687 minutes
of PL footy is good business.

Comment #5I don’t want my glass overflowing optimism to come across like I don’t care about the club or despise Ashlie because I really do, more than is healthy probably like everyone else on here!!
If the takeover is confirmed as dead I will be devastated beyond belief (I have a lot further to fall than most!!) and will throw all my weight behind toon22’s political action as I think it’s a great idea.
I just believe it’s going to happen and we’ll be free of him for good very soon and I’ll keep believing it until an official statement from BZG or the slug tells me otherwise.

Comment #8if ashley sells longstaff he has a much bigger problem then the one he has now, this will confirm whats been going on plus it will nail any takeover on the head as another ashley lie god does this bloke lie straight in bed, am damn sure he couldnt tell the truth even being injected with sodium penathol the man would be a complete and utter nonse, he sells him then we will see all hell break loose on tyneside and rightly so

Comment #9Another theory of thinking..for some.
If the takeover fails at least MA will try his best to keep it afloat at premier league level.

Comment #13Rolando: I couldn’t find anything yet but will look again. That 225 figure stuck in my mind and I usually have a good head for figures. Maybe it was someone else. I remember thinking at the time that whoever wrote it was off on the revenue and payroll so they would also be off on their conclusions.

Comment #18Mike Ashley is not not handing total control of NUFC over to anybody, and if that’s what Rafa wanted then I think it’s unrealistic knowing how the club has been run for 10 years.
If new owners do come in then Rafa’s representitives can try it on with them if they want Benitez that is.
He would have more to spend but in my opinion there is no way he would get total control of the club.

Comment #19Geordiemark: I said the same thing yesterday about Longstaff. We have had 18 months of the Rafa/Fatty Mexican standoff to deal with it. Selling Sean on top of sacking Rafa might cause a boycott of 3 or 400, at least for 1 game.

I get that mate, all we have is hope but at some point reality should set in, we’ve been down this road far to many times and how many times are we going to fall for the same trick?
The silence initially was good but now it’s nothing short of frustrating. I cant see any takeover happening, meanwhile asset stripping will continue.
Maybe just maybe he’s holding out to sell a few players and pocket some extra cash before selling us this summer but it’s looking highly unlikely in my eyes

Comment #24Wenger got 16 million for his last year at Arsenal. Is he really serious about wanting another managerial job? In an ideal world I would split Rafa’s pay between him as Technical Director and Arteta as coach. Pie in the sky I know. But Wenger could be paid 3 million for what is really a work at home job. He could be at SJP for the 2 transfer windows and unlike Fat Mike I think Wenger would know how to use skype.
Again, total fantasy but I am sick of being down on my club.

It alright, don’t need to find it. Just wanted to point out that it was new to me and what I remember it as.
There was one article though last year that I cannot find. Basically the idea was to use a very simple calculation to work out value of clubs. When I say very simple, like really. Doesn’t account for costs, assets, debts etc so flawed. It was a legit method used in sport finance to give rough ideas but all you do is take the total revenue and x by 1.8.
There was more details but cannot for the life of me find that. I used to get in discussions on here back then about values of clubs etc. I don’t bother anymore tbh.

He’ll cause chaos before going the fat cnut, but he’ll be happy enough knowing that 52k will still turn up no matter what. Our biggest strength on field for home games is also our biggest weakness off field

Comment #33Whimsical aside – the situation at Newcastle right now reminds me a bit of a Rorschach test. You know, the psychological one where people look at the same inkblots on a page but come up with very different perceptions of what they see. And that’s us. We’re all, fans and press alike, looking at the same few inconclusive scraps of fact and coming up with different interpretations of what they mean.Which is all we can do in the circumstances I suppose. Nature abhors a vacuum.

Comment #35Rolando: so that’s 325 million for NUFC according to the 1.8x method. I would add a bit for scarcity and the fact we don’t need a new ground like Everton or Bournemouth for example. So 375 million, which is why I always thought 350 wasn’t crazy as some have said.
