Martin O’Neill has just been sacked by Nottingham Forest according to The Guardian.
This comes just a week after Roy Keane resigned as assistant manager.
The report states that O’Neill was let go due to player concerns about his management. He had only just been appointed five months ago.
The sixty-seven-year-old played for Nottingham Forest under the great Brian Clough when they won their back to back European Cups in 1979 and 1980.
O’Neill is the epitome of the type of manager that we fear Ashley will appoint – a retread manager who is now in the twilight of his career.
We are impressed with the potential of Patrick Vieira and Sergio Conceicao, and hope that they will be under serious consideration.
We will probably now hear a lot about Martin O’Neill being in contention for the Newcastle job but we highly doubt that will happen.
We, however, would put nothing past Mike Ashley.

Comment #4Means BZG have been lying all along and there never was anything firm. Ashley not to blame except for the total silence regarding this. If nothing was firm then there was no NDA.
NUFC could have come out and make a statement. But that fcb decided to show middle finger to the fans and declared no comment for everything.

Comment #5Hibbit: I am not saying that Rafa would not have wanted direct access. I am saying I am surprised Rafa put up with it as he knew that Ashley was the one deciding on offers and player fees, not Charnley. Ashley tried giving Charnley and Carr control and we ended up with Schteve. So Rafa must have known that Charnley was the monkey and I have no idea why he didn’t insist on talking to the organ grinder.

Comment #6ilovetoon, no it doesn’t mean that. How can it possible mean that? All it means is that no one has any real idea so the Chronic (see what I did there) use the PA as their ‘source’ in the hope of lending credibility to yet another crock of shite.

Comment #9Has Iovetoon8788 EVER had anything positive to say about NUFC? I read some of the match threads and he would almost be wishing us to lose as well as slagging off just about every player, especially Yedlin. I have seen some say he is a Mackem but what sort of life must he have to want to come on here and spout shyte?

And of course this means that MA has screwed BZG and moved the goalposts and BZG can’t respond because they have signed a NDA which specifically bars them from spilling the beans on any dodgy double dealing by Ashley.
NOT.
IMO this is looking more and more like someone at BZG jumping the gun, a Sun reporter hearing second hand talk and BZG failing to provide proof of funds. There is no way the FA process would have taken this long.
Plus, there is no way if MA had moved the goalposts that someone at BZG, or close to BZG, would not have come out and slaughtered him irrespective of the penalties any NDA would bring. People of BZG’s supposed wealth would just stick to fingers up at MA if he had screwed them and let him chew on trying to get any compensation. No court in their country would prosecute on MA’s claim and any court action here would be an utter waste of time and money.
I don’t want to believe it, and no fan wants to believe it, but it looks more and more likely that this takeover is indeed a sheikover and BZG not MA are the fakes.

I think you need to wrap all that up in a ‘in my opinion’. It doesn’t look that way from where I’m standing. You do seem a little desperate to blame this on the Bin Zayed Group. Do you have an agenda?
BTW, I coined the term ‘sheikhover’. It was meant as a positive, the counter to a ‘fakeover’, not a synonym. Please don’t corrupt it.
I believe the sheikhover is alive and kicking and the BZG will be vindicated in the end. The only evidence I will accept to the contrary is a flat out denial of the BZG statements from Ashley, which we have not yet seen.

Clinging to news from media outlet who get very little right over 2 companies (BZG and Jabba) silence on things…
If you honestly believe that a company the size of bzg would give those statements without substance then you need your head read!
But Hey…. You love being different even though you have no facts to back things up! You like the attention you get on here with your opinions that a clearly not correct…
Anyway mate keep swimming against the tide!

How can you trust Ashley on anything, at all, ever?? someone who admitted he deliberately lied to all concerned in the past at Newcastle and misled us all.
Of all the takeovers at all the clubs in the recent past, has any club had so much interest(always we hear of multiple interested parties) and yet not one potential buyers has given proof of funds?? And yet the other clubs seem to have no issues.
Simple law of averages would say that some of the parties in the past few years would have done this, its not possible that every one of them are just tyre kickers without the money.
therefore the common denominator of all of these takeover stories is MA and his antics and ensuring that no sale is possible through his many tactics of changing demands and the like.

Comment #29What scares me though Rob is the reason we might not have a denial from Ashley is because he just doesn’t want to deny it, hes getting a kick out of not denying it. Ergo the BZG could be fakes just drumming up publicity, and Ashley could be telling the truth all along. That would be scary.

Guys, it’s the wrong helicopter anyway. G-MAOL was his I believe. G-MOAL (note subtle difference) is his current aircraft. All available to check through the CAA’s public database. We went though all of this with the last years bout of helicopter tracking……

Comment #31Two days officially to go, could Ashley be the man and totally be some kind of human being and reverse Rafa leaving.
He could if he really wanted to, but sadly I think he just isn’t that smart, what honestly would it take to get Rafa back on board, I’m sure there is some wiggle room, but it’s Ashley’s ball and he’s taking it home.
Two days to fix, maybe we will get purchased, but we are now looking at another relegation fighting season, the pain of supporting Newcastle United, fans are amazing, the history of the club amazing, the city amazing, the owner is amazingly screwing the club and the fans and isn’t ashamed of showing it.
What a fcuking soap opera NUFC has become.

Comment #33Toonrich that’s just not accurate, NONE of us have any clue how this process goes, we are just guessing, ergo the proof of funds might not be needed for the FA, also we dont even know if anything has even been sent to the FA either, that’s all more speculation.

You say. to me…But Hey…. You love being different even though you have no facts to back things up!
WHERE ARE ANY FACTS TO BACK ANYTHING UP?
I’m not expressing a fact just an opinion unlike many others on here who’s every supposedly dastardly takeover deed by Ashley IS expressed as a fact.
Why when I question BZG am I perceived as an Ashley fan? There were plenty of people who questioned some of the Allied tactics during the war but they were never accused of being fans of Hitler.
For definite, if we appoint a manager in less than two weeks time of the likes of Gerrard, Viera or the Portuguese guy the takeover is almost definitely off. No way would they take the job and run the risk of being the first out if new owners fancy someone else.
Again, my opinion, I believe MA has given BZG the two week deadline to put up or shut up.
I still cling, just, to the hope that they come up with the money.
But I fear it is already a dead duck.

Comment #37I honestly believe the takeover is dead, and with Benitez gone i am done with the club untill the cancer is gone, its not fair he has taken away something that means so much to so manym but i simmply cant go on supporting while Ashley remains. Final straw losing Benitez and another so called takeover where we have been told nothing by him or the club.

Comment #38IrishRob, I know the FA might not be bothered about seeing proof of funds, but to get to that stage MA stated he wanted to see them before due diligence, correct?! After DD, talks, offer, HoT possibly, then docs to FA.
My understanding could be well off…but I think their papers wouldnt make it to the FA without proving the £££m first.
