Roger Gonzalez is a sports writer who covers the U.S. Men’s National Team, U.S. Women’s National team, and the MLS for CBS Sports.
He tweeted the following earlier today about Newcastle United and U.S. Men’s National team right back DeAndre Yedlin:
Little #USMNT news. With the mess going on at Newcastle, do not be shocked to see DeAndre Yedlin explore his options and maybe move this summer. Am told there is interest from clubs in Spain, France and Germany.
— Roger Gonzalez (@RGonzalezCBS) June 28, 2019
Gonzalez is pretty close to the U.S. National Team so he may very well have heard something. We have not, however, been able to find any links with Yedlin to clubs in Europe.
DeAndre Yedlin was brought to Newcastle by Rafa Benitez in the summer of 2016. Even though he was dropped in favor of Javier Manquillo to close this past season, he has been Newcastle’s right back of choice under Benitez over the past three years.
The Newcastle squad to a man (well maybe minus Jack Colback) will likely be reeling with the news of Rafa Benitez’s departure this week.
This decision by Ashley could have a ripple effect throughout the squad. While the loss of Yedlin would not be as devastating as losing Sean Longstaff or even Ayoze Perez, he is still a very good squad player and a popular teammate.
The news of Rafa Benitez’s departure has reverberated around the world as he is an icon and had become the face of Newcastle United.
He was the reason Newcastle were on the television so often outside of Britain. He was a draw because he was a class manager and fun to watch on the sidelines.
Especially after a win when he would remove his glasses and turn to shake everyone’s hand.
One more time for old time’s sake. Even if it hurts.
Nothing else to say.

Comment #5Ok going forward crap defender. If hes kidding himself into thinking he should only be coached by the best hes deluded. Wish wed kept the swiss lad nd manquillo gives his all but is limited so he can go, if thats what he thinks. Cos of the fat turd at the top next season is gonna be a slog from start to finish so if hes not going to be fully commited its nee good him staying.

Cheers man.
It reaffirms my opinion of the whole thing. Without wanting to resurrect this afternoons bickering on the blog. I can’t see BZG having to worry about these sorts of things i.e money isn’t going to be that much of an obstacle to them. I also know that you can legit speak to Midhat directly.

Comment #9The biggest single indicator that we very much ARE facing a return to the pre Rafa days is that Rafa has gone. There is no rationalizing that. Rafa didn’t sign because he didn’t see a future at the club. That really is all you need to know to realize that a positive outcome is now pie in the sky stuff.
If Ashley can find a good strong manager willing to work within the financial constraints he imposes, then we can expect to be a lower top ten side and nothing more. That’s the full extent of any bright side in all of this as I see it.

Comment #11Sorry, so does everyone just know Midhat, or is this important, successful business man and director really just telling random people on various social and messaging platforms about a multi million pound deal that is still being discussed by both parties?
Surely that isn’t how BZG conduct their business normally?

Comment #23I’m going to feel bad for all those people on here who had July 1st pinned on their calendar as the date where everything was going to magically happen and everything would be amazing. Hopefully reality has hit them over the past few days and they’ll not be too disappointed.

Comment #27Got to say it’s very hard to believe that a man supposedly involved in a business worth billions and buying a premier league (for another season at best) team would just chat to absolute strangers from halfway around the world.
The statements I believed but it seems they were very premature and hadn’t factored in that the creature they were doing business with is a monumental helmet.

From earlier (sorry, I had a flight to catch)
My understanding was (and I could be wrong)
That the club had a loan (which I’m sure he knew about) that had a clause (which he may not have known about) which required the full amount to be paid up in the event of the club changing hands. That clause was activated and the full amount was paying d up in September 2007.
Now, there has been lots of additions and paybacks over last 12 years.
It doesn’t matter whether I think it’s a loan or not. What matters is that the premier league check every clubs accounts and they must be happy because it’s been there as a loan for over 10 years.
