Christian Atsu picked up what looks to be a hamstring injury in Ghana’s second match in the African Cup of Nations today against Cameroon. He was substituted off for Samuel Owusu after managing only fifteen minutes on the pitch. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.
This comes after a very poor performance for Atsu in a disappointing draw for Ghana in their first match against Benin. Atsu drew a lot of criticism for his performance from the Ghanaian fans and press.
Ghana will play Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday in the final match of Group F. They currently lie in second place on two points behind Cameroon who are on four points.
The extent of the injury is unknown but Atsu is one of those players on the fringe at Newcastle at the moment. He lost his place when Paraguayan Miguel Almiron arrived in January. But played very well in the final few games of the season when Almiron went down with his own hamstring injury.
Christian Atsu will have wanted to make his mark in preseason this summer and impress whoever becomes the next Newcastle manager. Now he could be looking at a lengthy spell in the sidelines.

Comment #41Tony Im not marking anything and I dont class myself as any kind of blog stalwart, I stand on my own patch and say what I see. “Cherry picking” is another way of saying “careful selection”. As long as it’s salient and not expedient it’s a healthy thing. When I say something out of turn the hammer comes down on me, so I expect I won’t float everyone’s boat, in fact I know I don’t!

Comment #42Tsunki I don’t have a problem with your opinion. I would support a boycott. The game v arsenal is perfect and I fully agree with Jail. I may not live in the toon and some may not like me on this blog (and that’s just fine by me because most of them are narrow minded numpties) but if I was residing there, I would certainly support and mass action. I do respect guys like Bobby who talk about the past (I remember mckeag too) and who want to support the shirt and team (and so wud I) but for certain arranged games and protests v Ashley, yes please, I’m all for it.

Comment #43As to making fun of the players. That’s as much of a reference to the Pogba-fication of the game. A world cup winner, multi Serie A winner and overgrown child. If that’s what you pick up on from my multiple posts then you really are looking for an argument above anything else.

Comment #45It’s really, really simple. If you go to a home match at Mike Ashley FC, or Sports Direct FC, you are betraying Newcastle United. If you choose voluntarily to spend money putting a bum on a seat at the Sports Direct Arena, you are either a traitor to the club or woefully uninformed. Some people can be forgiven – not everyone is on Twitter, or the internet – but to go knowingly to the house of Ashley is a betrayal of everything you support and acceptance that you’re alright with Ashley being in charge of the club.
How can this odious, despicable “man” maintain compete and utter silence in all that’s going on? How can such a “person” effectively sack Rafa Benitez – a man who supported Newcastle food bank drives, a man who understands the pain of real people, of real lives. Yes, Rafa’s political, but he’s also REAL and speaks to real people about real things. Ashley, in his ivory tower, hates you, and me, for following this club. His vindictive bullying is limitless, his lies endless – “I’ll give him every penny the club generates….except the ÂŁ34m I’ll take”. The club has made, in profit, enough to have repaid Ashley twice over. Where’s it gone?
Avoid Sports Direct Arena AT ALL COSTS. Avoid SD if you can. Ignore the odious, cancerous nightmare.

Comment #48If I say that I don’t think a boycott will work and it has never worked then it might be better to tell me how this time is different and how it can work. I thought this was a forum for different opinions, not to be shouted down. As I have said, I have read this blog and most on here can defend themselves and are not shy about it. I also know there is a fight club on here and was fully expecting some blowback. Maybe I should just say it is all Mike Ashley’s fault 50 times a day and call people shills when they have just criticized Ashley? Or call for firebombs and give out Charnley’s home address?

Fair play to them, if I could be I’d be there too – So people of Newcastle, demonstrate in front of Charnley’s house? Make him uncomfortable.
It’s the only way.

Comment #56Lots of people on here who will moan and go to games even if Ashley stays for 30 years.
Ashley loves these numpties.
Urinates in their faces and then they pay him for the privilege.
They claim there is nothing we can do. They dismiss a boycott because it has not worked elsewhere so are unwilling to try it. They are the “I have been to every game since 1947 brigade and nobody is going to stop me giving my coin to Ashley.”
We need new blood in the ground with some attitude and the old farts to take up bowls.

Comment #57You cannot make the man sell. He’s an obnoxious cretin with ONE tactic; change the goalposts right at the end. Does it every time, everywhere – look at Debenhams to see what happens when the fat waster doesn’t get his way. He’s horrible. Deep sociopath, borderline psychotic. Why on God’s earth would ANYONE willingly set foot in his house? As far as I’m concerned, SJP is dead. It died when the hideous polyp renamed SJP the first time – it is now and has always been the Sports Direct Arena under this human stain. So don’t go. It’s not your cathedral, it’s not your team, it’s not your club. It has been in the past, it will be again, but it’s currently in a coma and no cheering, ticket, or merchandise buying will breathe life into it – if anything it adds to the suffocation. No doubt people won’t get it. We live in a country split down the middle on Brexit, without a PM and the threat of Boris. These are horrible times for the everyman.

Comment #59London Mags doing a lot more than the not missed a game since 1947 brigade. The stalwarts will no doubt dismiss them as plastics. Total respect to them.

Comment #60Jail: I am sure Ashley has security. I am also pretty sure Charnley will not. My problem is not a peaceful protest of Charnley it is what it could turn into. Wave banners at him at Benton or SJP but do his wife and kids (if he has them) deserve harassment at home?

Comment #61Charnley is a patsy. He’s not the problem. Ashley’s a beacon of disgusting capitalist pig-ness. Not just NUFC but all the SD complaints. Do you know if you go back far enough, he was ACTIVELY involved in far-east sweat shops and child labour exploitation? How do you think he got so many knock-off tracksuits?
He firmly believe he’s above the law. He’s certainly about me and you. Except, of course, most of the world recognises he’s sub-human scum with a few zeros in his account.

Boris is toast.
We need Jezza to slap a 99 per cent tax on anybody earning more than 100K a year. That would mean a flat football playing field and we might win something even with Ashley. He is staying until taken out in a box because the stalwarts will keep giving.

Comment #63I think I might be in the minority on here but I hope you all can let me be heard. It might actually help you formulate your own views more clearly to have a dissenting voice. Although I am only dissenting on a few issues like HOW to get rid of the Fat Slug and not the necessity whether TO GET RID OF HIM.

Comment #64There are truly not enough hours in the day to keep up with the blog recently; which is a great thing. This is why I rarely comment anymore as I don’t like to chance covering old ground.
Fast-forwarding through some of the comments, Tsunki and ronaldo aarons have made fine work of keeping-the-home-fires-burning.
I will try and chime in with something more productive, if/when, I finally catch up on the blog.

Comment #65Jimiley – you cannot underestimate the stupidity of Britons. Boris could do a Bernard Manning standup routine and still be in No.10. In fact, just wait til Arsenal home; there’ll still be 45,000 to watch Redfearns PL managerial debut.

He did a Bernard Manning when talking about painting buses, But you are right. People do not listen to the facts anymore. They form a belief and nothing will change it. Its pointless debating on here. Nobody changes their mind. Corbyn will never believe the Russians poisoned people in Salisbury regardless of overwhelming evidence. Holocausr deniers.Twin towers. landing on the moon etc etc.
Its all a waste of time reasoning with people so I just give it to them straight,
People who go to home games are dicks. But they will keep giving coin.

I like cOrbyns economics but his foreign policy stinks.Terrorists, Russians and Chinese are good. America is all bad. He would be leading the demos if the Americans instead of the Russians were bombing Syrian houses and hospitals. So does Brexit stink because he has not got a policy..
We have to wait for the national conference in September for a policy decision. A joke.
What about a war? Can we put that decision off 9 months until the conference tells me what to do.
He is another old fart who needs to take up bowls.
