Report – Sean Longstaff Will Wait To Consider Future

The Daily Star are reporting that while Sean Longstaff is “bitterly upset” with the departure of Rafa Benitez, he will not make a rash decision about his future at the moment.

This what the Daily Star are reporting about Sean Longstaff:

The player recently made it clear he wanted to stay and continue his impressive, rapid development under Benitez.

But that was before the Spanish coach, who gave Longstaff his league debut at Liverpool on Boxing Day, was shown the door in acrimonious fashion by club supremo Mike Ashley.

Longstaff, who signed a new four-year deal last season, Is said to be equally surprised and unhappy by the sudden twist in events.

Now he intends to see who is appointed as Benitez’s successor before making up his mind whether to stay – or push for an immediate move to United.

The part about Sean being upset and shocked is not really surprising. We’re sure that the majority of Newcastle players are feeling down and unsure at the way Rafa has left the club.

The interesting part of the report to us is that Sean Longstaff will wait to see who is appointed before making up his mind. Since Lee Charnley is running the manager search, this could take quite a while.

Sean Longstaff– waiting for new manager appointment?

However, Manchester United are widely reported to be preparing an imminent bid for Sean Longstaff. If that occurs it will certainly affect Sean’s decision about his future.

Longstaff will have to weigh money, security, playing time, and loyalty into any decision to leave Newcastle. He would most certainly get a healthy wage bump by joining the Red Devils.

However, he would most likely not be first choice and that could stunt his development. He also would be leaving the area he grew up in and the team that he grew up supporting. He will in essence be giving up his dream of wearing the black and white stripes of Newcastle United.

While this would certainly be a healthy choice financially and also provide an instant boost to his global image, he would be plying his trade in front of a lukewarm fanbase. These are the same fans who want the Glazers out and have no conception of what it is like to really hurt.

These will be fans with which he will have little name recognition currently and little connection with. He will not be considered a big signing by most of the Man U fanbase as a majority of them will likely never have heard of him except through the recent transfer talk.

He will be giving up a lot by leaving Newcastle United now. Though with the current state of the club under Mike Ashley no fan would blame him. But he may end up regretting a decision to leave. There’s no place like home even if it is a wreck at the moment.

Rafa is loved by the toon. Not just because hes a classy guy, hes the best we’ll ever get under fatty. We’ve been punching above our weight for 3seasons having Rafa here. All toon fans knew things would go tits up as mike only knows tits up.

Only thing that can make it better is a take over.

Then maybe someone like wenger, i wouldn’t be disappointed

Catchy: you are fighting the last battle. Rafa has gone mate. I think we all need to move on and think of what is to come. And there are parallel paths – with Fatty and without. As I said on the last thread, my fear is Charnley in charge. Or even worse, Wise.

For the last 3 years it has been RafaNUFC and now there is no-one to fill that void. I am sure that Redfearn will get the Mangers job temporarily and Nixon will probably get promoted. Both unknowns at this level. Rafa was a known at this level and above. He won trophies at other clubs even when his teams were perhaps not the most aesthetically pleasing. Jose gets lauded for that, why not Rafa?

I don’t know why I bother but…. what manager could come in and play the standard of football you seem to expect while the owner is actively working against any type of success.

If reports are to be believed, a £30 million bid for Longstaff could probably seal the deal. Ashley would view turning £30 million down, as the equivalent of paying £30 million to keep Longstaff. We know Ashley wouldn’t pay £30 million to buy a player like Longstaff, so logic would dictate Longstaff is as good as gone.

    Potentially looking at
    Rondon gone
    Rafa gone
    Longstaff gone
    Ashley remaining

Any manager will require 100 million to keep us up. Arteta Viera Moyes ONeill Gerrard or Wise would all be a huge step backwards

If Joselu can’t be sold for “legal reasons”, why could Longstaff be sold?

    Doesn’t make sense to me.

Because Joselu is a purchased asset

Longstafff came through the system and wasn’t an

It’s issues of how to deal with any future sale
of Longstaff etc. that is probably holding things up.
Which is ironic when you consider Ashley’s purchase
of distressed companies just to grab their stock.

Nobody will come in or be sold until the takeover is decided.

Even if this dickhead of an owner is trying his best to annoy us and no doubt anger the players by his handling of Rafa – I think he will still be gone soon.

Pinsent Masons have a good reputation and i am holding onto that Ash does want to sell, he is just (in my opinion) trying to get a bit more before his ‘deadline’ (whenever that is). He is motivated by money, nothing else, 350-400 million is a canny profit (geordie dentist estimate price)

singinthecorner, OK I see, just tried it myself and the phone number is needed. I posted a link yesterday which told how to do it, by getting an Indian to set it up for you. Maybe that’s what fairscup did yesterday, as he posted all sorted. The trickiest part is paying as you need an Indian credit card or paytm (Indian money wallet) to pay. The article (i just googled open hotstar account from outside India) explained how they were tightening up on VPN blocking and gave a list of VPNs that were working for the premium content. It also explained how to get Indians to pay for it for you. It seems they charge $10 to set it up. Best to get fairscup to tell us how he got on before proceeding.

Jib – Longstaff is an asset, regardless of coming through the academy. He doesn’t need to be purchased in order to go in the asset column. He is an asset by virtue of being invested in by the club.

If Joselu isn’t transferred tomorrow it gives credence to the takeover. Also if the Alaves were waiting for the 1st of July for the transfer to take place, why didn’t they just say so. They said it was held up for legal reasons. Also Joselu himself said in an interview a while back that we had to wait and see with the new owners coming in.
