Team Talk are reporting that Newcastle are among four Premier League clubs interested in Huddersfield Town striker Steve Mounie.
Mounie is currently on international duty with Benin in the African Cup of Nations.
Mounie was a £12m signing for Huddersfield in the summer of 2017 from Ligue 1 club Montpellier. He has thus far failed to set the Premier League alight scoring just 11 goals in 63 appearances over the past two seasons.
This past season, which saw Huddersfield make the drop back to the Championship, Mounie managed just 2 goals.
His last season in France, Mounie was able to score a respectable 15 goals but he just has not been able to replicate any such prowess in the superior level of the Premier League. He currently has two years remaining on his contract.
Steve Mounie– Benin International striker
We have to hope that this cannot be who Newcastle will bring in as Rondon’s replacement. We will need someone of equal quality to the Venezuelan and though Mounie is still young at 24, he really doesn’t inspire much confidence.
The good news is that Huddersfield will be reluctant sellers according to a report in the Examiner. Ashley would likely only sanction a deal if he can get an excellent bargain.
With only Dwight Gayle at the club as a striker right now, Newcastle will need to bring in at least two others to be able to compete this season.
Without a manager and with Lee Charnley running the show, it is hard to believe that Newcastle will be quick in getting any reinforcements in.
The other clubs said to be linked to Mounie are Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, and Watford.

Comment #4Jib……….. I hope the info. you have shared from Companies House is indeed positive news as you insinuate. However I have to take you back a few days when you had an altercation with Lochinvar over the acquisition of Alton Towers and Chessington etc. by the Lego guy in which you did appear somewhat out of your depth.

The new “manager” will probably just be a coach. It’ll be up to Charmless (!) to buy/sell players.

Comment #10Sorry Jib , my mistake it was indeed Posada. The point being however is that your track record of commenting on Company takeovers does leave a far bit to be desired. That isn’t to say that your worldly knowledge is not extensive but this area does not appear to be one of your strong points.

Comment #19Chico – it’s interesting – there’s a skysports breakdown of transfer dealings and we’re the only club not to have done anything at all. Not even released anyone…

the recognition that a member staff had the balls to undermined the clubs announcement with the man face palming (a sign of despair), and that contrary to popular belief on here there are still dozens of decent people working within the club.

Comment #38People forget it was 15 years ago when Mourinho ruled the world and he hasn’t been that guy for years and years now. He doesn’t stay at any club for longer than 3 years.
He definitely doesn’t have the desire like he used to, he just goes through the motions and survives off past glory knowing he cant really mess up too badly if he always gets boat loads of money.
Jose would not suit Newcastle full stop. The only thing he brings is a feeling we are somehow bigger with him on board which eventually filters out into the public which ultimately makes us a bigger club.
But the passion and desire will never fully be there no matter how well he tries to convince us of it every now and then with his acting.
