According to reports in Italy, Antonio Barreca has arrived in Genoa for a medical ahead of a loan move with an option to buy.
Barreca has had a very rough patch in his career since he joined AS Monaco from Torino for €11m last summer.
He managed only 9 appearances for the struggling Ligue 1 club before losing his place in early November.
Newcastle threw him a lifeline in the January transfer window on a loan with an option to buy. That move turned out to be an even bigger disappointment for Antonio as he was only on the pitch for a grand total of 4 minutes.
With Paul Dummett returning from injury and Matt Ritchie moving to the left wing-back position, there was no room for Barreca in the squad.
He will now return to Serie A for Genoa CFC who also lined up in a back three with wing-backs last season.
We wish him well as he is a player with some ability who needs to get a chance at first-team football.

Comment #2As the start of next season edges closer, more and more people will clock on that we are not being taken over, and we wont be told a thing, we will have to come to come to that realisation ourselves, then it will be left to the media to come up with imaginary stories off how it broke down ect. Fat Mike doesnt care he will expect a full stadium against Arsenal and for all the fans to just accept it, will be business as always and just like deja Vu. And he is right because all the fans will still go to every match, maybe our attendance will drop something so marginal its not even noticeable. Fat boy wins again.

Comment #5Contrary to what rotunda thinks, I reckon martinez is hugely overrated and can’t get teams to defend. Everton hated him and he landed beautifully when he got the Belgium job. That said I’ll welcome him, as all fans should do, and stop making comparisons with a departed manager.

Comment #6Connector train from Leeds carrying Neil warnock 20 mins away.
As robleenio and dubai mickey have pointed out, a plane carrying Vincent Tan has arrived some hours ago. Route was Malaysia to abu dabhi to Newcastle
Deal for warnock to become our next manager imminent as prep continues for us to bounce straight back from the championship in 2021

Do you really think Rafa wanted him. It sounded like he was a like a 5th/6th choice, a bit like Muto (”I think he’s a striker!”)
So now they are saying the new manager can have 100 M but wouldn’t sanction that for a world class manager in Rafa. Did they learn nothing from McLaren. This really seems personal. Click bait for STs I guess.

Comment #11The plane which landed in Newcastle this morning has been flying in Malaysia & China since April. The only time it touched the middle East was the 2 hour stop on way to Newcastle. Highly unlikely it’s linked to BZG.
If it is linked to take over then it can only be one of the “other interested parties”. Never heard rumours about Malaysian interest so for me this is a total red herring.

Comment #13Can you all please stop with this aeroplane crap and start focusing on people like Charlie?
Explain that just boycotting televised games has to be the primary way forward.
It can have a positive economic impact on Newcastle businesses.
People can still support our players on non televised games, thus keeping them on our side.

Comment #21Too good for Countdown or Datcher this guy
Newcastle United will have a transfer budget of just under £100 million this summer, according to Chronicle
journalist Lee Ryder.
The Magpies are reportedly on the verge of selling Ayoze Perez to Leicester City for £30 million, as reported by the BBC, and that money should add to a sizeable war chest.
Writing for the Chronicle, Ryder said: “Given the club have made no secret of the fact that Benitez would have had £50million to spend – plus potentially £11million left over from January sales – the Perez money would give Newcastle a competitive transfer fund of just under £100million.”

We all have days off, I stated 24 hours ago there would be a statement, and I said in a couple of days. What I do know is the BZG are amazed at the amount of support, we await the statement.
Does he mean “off days”? What’s he talking about?

Comment #31I still believe the the sale is progressing for the Following reasons:
1. Ashley wants to sell to raise cash for his other businesses (Sale of Shirebrook)
2. BZG are a real company and have come out and said they are progressing the sale which was confirmed by the club and by Rafa in his statement to the Times. Although there may be more than one group.
3. The activity at Companies House, just the timing seems coincidental
4.Setting up of Monochrome Acquisitions
5. Wall of silence around the deal.
So I believe the deal was/is real and if it had collapsed we would have heard from the club that BZG were time wasters but also from BZG that Ashley kept moving the goalposts

Comment #33On Martinez, he has probably expressed an interest. Newcastle have probably contacted him to find out how interested he is. Once they’ve found how much he will cost in terms of a settlement fee, his application will be filed in the bin.

Players can be sold during a takeover, any transfers money or otherwise goes I to the outgoing expenditures.
As I said yesterday and the day before that, if we had bought a player in that’s when we should worry.
