When it was confirmed that Rafa Benitez would not be returning to Newcastle, a slew of managers were linked with having interest in the vacant position.
One of those was former Feyenoord manager and ex-Netherlands captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
This is what van Bronckhorst’s agent Guido Albers said last week:
“I think the rumors come a little early. No one from the club has spoken to Gio. But I think every trainer in the world is interested in the Premier League.”
“Of course he would like to work at Newcastle if that opportunity arises. is a great club with a great fan base, but it’s up to them who they go for”
The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder has tweeted an update to his interest in the position.
Sources in Holland are suggesting Giovanni van Bronckhorst remains keen on the #nufc job.
— Lee Ryder (@lee_ryder) July 4, 2019
Van Bronckhorst managed Feyenoord for four years and decided to leave the club at the end of this past season. He led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in 2017.
While it looks like Roberto Martinez is currently Newcastle’s main target, there is growing doubt that he would leave Belgium to take the position and work under Ashley.
While van Bronckhorst was successful at Feyenoord and also a great leader on the pitch, his lack of experience is a concern if he were to become Rafa Benitez’s successor.

Comment #48So Jibley Jibbers reckons Joselu can’t be sold during a takeover because he’s an asset but Longstaff can because he was a product of the academy and therefore not an asset. Perez who is an asset and has been sold must fall in to a new category, Jiblets will know because he knows stuff.

Comment #52No way is perez worth 30m.not a chance. Leicester could not negotiate lower as at present we cannot sell contracts due to takeover. They had to pay the buy out fee. They could have waited but then risked not getting him because we would have more ambitious owners or the takeover could delay the transfer for x length of time.
More evidence the takeover is happening

Comment #53Any way to know if 30M was actually a release clause for Perez? It sounded like PR spin for NUFC to release. Then they put it in their actual press release.

To be fair, those three players probably add up to about ÂŁ2M on the clubs books (and believe it or not, Joselu will have the most residual value)

Comment #57I work in a retail store for a popular consumer brand. Recently a highly loved manager was let go for very petty reasons and it dropped the bottom out of the morale of the entire staff. Upper management didnt care, they knew the product would sell itself no matter how happy the staff was. If people decided to leave it wouldn’t matter, the money would still come in. You’d think a company that makes so much money would also invest in its people and their experience… you’d be wrong.
This reminds me so much of what is going on here. Ashley doesn’t see the team as a competitive endeavor, he sees it as a business to be run as the lowest possible cost. Doesn’t matter what the results are just that the balance sheet is in a positive direction. You do the bare minimum to keep the whole thing moving forward but not enough where positive results come at the costs of potential profit loss. The only thing is that Ashley has to be one of the only people not to see that investment into the team also can lead to even better return on his profits. When players being bought for 10-15 million are now being sold for 30-50 million a year or two later. Where having a player that some sort of talisman can lead to larger kit sales, sponsorship opportunities, and make more players want to play for you.
It’s just tiring for all of us to be able to look at it, to see the issue and for him to either be blindly oblivious or deliberately content with the sheer ineptitude. Just whenever I tell myself I can’t see us going any lower… now this. It’s so hard to keep your head up with this team.

Comment #60Donât the papers usually pick up and the transfer requests almost immediately? I imagine this is because agents will immediately reveal the news to a journo to start driving up interest.

Comment #61Barkel, I’ve Googled that mate, I can’t find any such thing. The only report like that I saw was Ashley saying if you want to leave, put in a transfer request. Of course, if they do, they don’t get a fee. Players are generally as mercenary as owners and managers. The only one I know who has, is Hayden.

Comment #63They would have had a new manager in by this point if it needed to be done. Even this lot are not that daft. They won’t even be looking. None of these managers that are linked have been contacted.
Why? Because we will be taken over very soon.

Comment #64Robleenio – admirable effort on this flight tracking. Can you also find out if these journeys from Ashley are regular? That would be worth correlating to see if this weeks behaviour is unusual. Can you go back to April/May and see if these trips to Luton/Lausanne are normal.

The only PR is from the press….the club issued âundisclosed feeâ as they always do.
The press speculated on the fee, as they always do.
The club is as opaque as they can possibly be.
