Report – Newcastle’s Transfer Budget To Top £100m

The Daily Star are reporting that Newcastle’s transfer budget this summer will top £100m, which if spent in total would easily be the highest spent in any transfer window by the club.

How the Daily Star come to this amount is not as straightforward as the title of the article suggests. Basically they are reporting that the transfer budget is £60m plus the £30m from the sale of Ayoze Perez. But that only amounts to £90m you might be asking.

Well, I’ll leave it to Ian Murtagh of the Daily Star to fill you in on the rest of it:

Newcastle sources insist the cash raised from Perez’ imminent move to the Foxes will be added to the £60m already promised to Rafa Benitez before his own departure earlier this week.

And with wantaway Isaac Hayden keen to quit St James’ Park for personal reasons and unlikely to leave for less than £15m, Benitez’ replacement will have a budget for the season running into nine figures.

As you can see, Murtagh is adding player sales to this amount and he is including Isaac Hayden in that equation.

It is true that Isaac Hayden will want to leave this summer to be closer to home for personal reasons. Rafa Benitez was sympathetic to Isaac and was seemingly resigned to his departure this summer.

However, we’ll have to see what happens under the new manager. Though we would expect the club to respect Isaac’s request as it is legitimate and he has acted professionally throughout this season.

Though there is yet to be an offer for Hayden and until one of significant value comes in, Isaac is a Newcastle United player.

Ian Murtagh also touches on the likely skepticism by fans to this assertion or reinvesting in the squad, as it not very Ashley-esque. Ian Murtagh writes:

That sum will be greeted with plenty of scepticism by a fanbase still reeling from Benitez’ departure, upset at owner Mike Ashley’s running of the club and divided over Perez’ move to a Premier League rival.

He then reasserts him claims of the large transfer budget by referring to sources inside the club. He continues:

But insiders are adamant that Lee Charnley will honour his April pledge that £60m plus every penny raised through sales is to be invested in the team and the new man will be provided with the sort of funds his predecessor could only dream about.

I think Alan Shearer has the appropriate response to this claim.

HI ALL!!! …been away for a few days had my birthday on the 29th, then training until today sooooooo I have not had a chance to really say anything about everything that has happened ……………………

whta a complete and utter load of fat witches T@Ts that own and run this club!!!!!
how do you let a manager let Rafa walk away? only an idiot could do that!!!…

not really bothered about perez leaving for $30 mil if this is a true story! not seen much else since it hit the news…

BUT…. if players do leave I feel this should tell us that the whole “TAKEOVER” was actually a FAKEOVER!!!

sad, sad sad times head again with the FATC@NT at the wheel…BOYCOTT EVERYTHING!!!

They’ve done it before. Ashley’s only option is not to sell. He can back a new man, up to a point, and we’ll most likely accept it. In fact I’d say we almost certainly will.

No future in it, but as a fanbase, we’ll cop it. Not everyone, but enough.

I think the real hope is that Ashley, sometime, someday, after so many years of discontent, interspersed with periods of genuine animosity, will simply have had enough and sell.

I think these insiders are probably trying to con a manager into joining us as much as they’re trying to placate the supporters.
A self respecting manager wouldn’t touch us with a 10 foot barge pole.

So Ashley’s dangling a supposed £100m transfer kitty to attract some sucker to replace Rafa. Didn’t Rafa say he’d been told about and shown the plans for the new training centre?

Nothing changes as evidenced by the 2009 thread (see last page of the thread before last) RobLeenio posted. All who have any positive thoughts about Ashley should look at the threads of that period.

Thanks for posting it Rob, some of those names struck a chord.

THERE is NOT! I say again NOT! a decent manager out there that will associate themselves with NUFC, not a chance …RAFA and the FANs have shown to the world how the FATSLUG has no desire to do anything but suck money from the club, ITS THAT SIMPLE!!!. what was the slogan? RAFA GOES WE GO? was that it? ….time to put up or shut up! …I truly hope there is next to nobody at the home games, any game for that matter…I understand those that have season tickets already paid up BUT the rest …its time for a revolution!!!!!

If Ashley is still in charge come the start of the season, would anyone supporting NUFC rather stay at home for the Arsenal match and follow it on tv or radio while feeling good about taking a principled stand against Ashley, or troop into the ground to see a dispirited side put in a dispiriting performance and come away feeling like sh*t ?
I think I know my answer to that one.

We need two strikers and two wingers just to have a team to put out. That £100m will soon vanish. Those types of players don’t come cheap.

most sobering sentence …with the departure of perez and rondon newcastles current top scorer is a cntre back who missed 3 months of the season ….lets just let that pearl sink in when we are thinking of handing him your cash.

will be checking the site to see just how much damage has been done.
I think if anything less than 20k are available i will be gutted they are winning the PR war.

Get this live site idea off the ground with the city council ?
big screens/ local business involved / an alternative to setting foot in the ground but as a positive way of saying enough is enough .40k in the park on a sunday afternoon …almost sounds like a verse …

It really isn’t that hard to not renew your season ticket and stay away surely, under the circumstances. You can listen on the radio, watch games in the pub or at home though pay tv or online. You must be able to fill that void productively with something else. Ashley has hijacked the club and to a degree the City. Put your money to better use. But if you must go at least sing out lustily against the regime. That’s the least you can do.

OG: the homeless aren’t too bad here for the most part. It is too cold. Try San Francisco, they are in your face the whole time and very aggressive. You just can’t give to everybody but some will swear at you. I used to smoke and was outside a bar having a tab and literally 20 people asked me for one.
