Report – Newcastle’s Transfer Budget To Top £100m

The Daily Star are reporting that Newcastle’s transfer budget this summer will top £100m, which if spent in total would easily be the highest spent in any transfer window by the club.

How the Daily Star come to this amount is not as straightforward as the title of the article suggests. Basically they are reporting that the transfer budget is £60m plus the £30m from the sale of Ayoze Perez. But that only amounts to £90m you might be asking.

Well, I’ll leave it to Ian Murtagh of the Daily Star to fill you in on the rest of it:

Newcastle sources insist the cash raised from Perez’ imminent move to the Foxes will be added to the £60m already promised to Rafa Benitez before his own departure earlier this week.

And with wantaway Isaac Hayden keen to quit St James’ Park for personal reasons and unlikely to leave for less than £15m, Benitez’ replacement will have a budget for the season running into nine figures.

As you can see, Murtagh is adding player sales to this amount and he is including Isaac Hayden in that equation.

It is true that Isaac Hayden will want to leave this summer to be closer to home for personal reasons. Rafa Benitez was sympathetic to Isaac and was seemingly resigned to his departure this summer.

However, we’ll have to see what happens under the new manager. Though we would expect the club to respect Isaac’s request as it is legitimate and he has acted professionally throughout this season.

Though there is yet to be an offer for Hayden and until one of significant value comes in, Isaac is a Newcastle United player.

Ian Murtagh also touches on the likely skepticism by fans to this assertion or reinvesting in the squad, as it not very Ashley-esque. Ian Murtagh writes:

That sum will be greeted with plenty of scepticism by a fanbase still reeling from Benitez’ departure, upset at owner Mike Ashley’s running of the club and divided over Perez’ move to a Premier League rival.

He then reasserts him claims of the large transfer budget by referring to sources inside the club. He continues:

But insiders are adamant that Lee Charnley will honour his April pledge that £60m plus every penny raised through sales is to be invested in the team and the new man will be provided with the sort of funds his predecessor could only dream about.

I think Alan Shearer has the appropriate response to this claim.

I think hope went a while ago well definitely for me anyways I for one just want the announcement bad or good put my mind at rest.

I asked yesterday but nobody answered. Could the NDA’s signed by BZG prevent them from giving an announcement?

Mund – you need to sign an NDA before they let you see the financial and other commercially sensitive info as part of due diligence – on that basis it’s not stopped them before.

If all this money was really on offer Rafa would have stayed – oh no, wait – there’s no mention of academy investment! What was I thinking?

This 100 million is just more PR.
It was (and very likely ) 50 million (they haven’t mentioned over 2 windows either)
Add on Perez and Hayden and you have your 100 million.
Really no improvement on what we were hearing rafa was being offered back in may .pretty pathetic when we are Now meant to be getting the big premier bucks for the 3rd year in a row .
And as Tsunki has said there is zero about sorting out the crumbling infra structure and academy ,other than 40 litres of dulux .
Even with that i would have accepted with rafa on board as you always felt he could make it work ,but giving this to which ever out of work stooge we are lumbered with just fills me with dread.
100 million wont go far even if they had any intention of blowing that much and then try and convince players to come here in the current climate ,other than a return to the stepping stone days of carr n co

Same mate my wife wants an announcement more than I do not for herself she hates football but because like most of your gf’s or wives they just want to see the pain stop and see that smile back on my face. For years I took all Newcastle related bad news really bad was a nightmare to be around figured I couldn’t be like that anymore not fair on the kids or missus. So I did reign it in didn’t let it control my life but bang after this summer I’m back in that despair.

Think the reason they are pushing season tickets so hard can tell us something .
if they are sold would they give a hoot ?
And if 30 million is agreed for perez is that (in the unlikely event of a sale) does that go to ash or the new owners?
Its like buying out a restaurant but finding the 50 k induction stove is awol .
We really need last nights “professional accountant ” to reappear and run his eyes over all this 🙂

    Off

You can’t polish a turd so 40 litres wouldn’t help;-)
Do you really think new mug will get that much?
Perez will be instalments then add in players wages they will want a fair wedge to come here now .
So likely £50 mill kitty at most, though they will spin it as 100 🙂

    Takeover was never happening.

If you dug deep enough im sure youd find a link between PCP, BZG and Kenyon. Mikes probably selling them cheap clobber for a boost of their name in the papers.

100mil… take off players fees, agent fees, ashleys helicopter rides, pie allowance, sd sign cleaned etc we’re left with enough to buy a new Joselu

Mike really made it look good. A real professional job by his man barnes.

Closing of companies, BZG statements, sd sign removals. He even referenced a takeover when Rafa left.

Had the fans doing backflips while players, Charnley and Mike just cracked on oblivious to the hype they accidentally created.

Hats off to him for this one…

Another lie, even if true thats only 3 perezs, to replace: perez, rondon, hayden, diame and possibly Longstaff, 100million alot of money when a decent player was 8 -15m, not when ur average joe bloggs is 25m

Mike ashley is making a mug of us

100m is our tv money and should b spent every season just bolstering the squad, and that without selling our top players

Wake up people, dont b made mugs off

    No recognised strike force
    No manager
    No coaching staff
No owner, well not one that behaves like an owner
    And sadly now
    No hope

So when will the Premier League step in?

As far as the potential 50mil transfer kitty goes its going to take at least 50 mil just to stand still by replacing Perez and buying Rondon.
We’re going to struggle next season that’s for sure.

Just for information the plane which came in from Abu Dhabi yesterday is scheduled to leave Newcastle at 3:30 for London.
    3 Possibilities
    1. Announcement sometime this morning with new owners meeting players
    2. Meeting in London for final sign off on deal
    3. Nothing to do with the takeover

    Unfortunately many can’t see this.
We’ll sign unproven youngsters from lesser leagues as well. With our current squad we would compete for the record low premier league points tally.
