Report – Newcastle’s Transfer Budget To Top £100m

The Daily Star are reporting that Newcastle’s transfer budget this summer will top £100m, which if spent in total would easily be the highest spent in any transfer window by the club.

How the Daily Star come to this amount is not as straightforward as the title of the article suggests. Basically they are reporting that the transfer budget is £60m plus the £30m from the sale of Ayoze Perez. But that only amounts to £90m you might be asking.

Well, I’ll leave it to Ian Murtagh of the Daily Star to fill you in on the rest of it:

Newcastle sources insist the cash raised from Perez’ imminent move to the Foxes will be added to the £60m already promised to Rafa Benitez before his own departure earlier this week.

And with wantaway Isaac Hayden keen to quit St James’ Park for personal reasons and unlikely to leave for less than £15m, Benitez’ replacement will have a budget for the season running into nine figures.

As you can see, Murtagh is adding player sales to this amount and he is including Isaac Hayden in that equation.

It is true that Isaac Hayden will want to leave this summer to be closer to home for personal reasons. Rafa Benitez was sympathetic to Isaac and was seemingly resigned to his departure this summer.

However, we’ll have to see what happens under the new manager. Though we would expect the club to respect Isaac’s request as it is legitimate and he has acted professionally throughout this season.

Though there is yet to be an offer for Hayden and until one of significant value comes in, Isaac is a Newcastle United player.

Ian Murtagh also touches on the likely skepticism by fans to this assertion or reinvesting in the squad, as it not very Ashley-esque. Ian Murtagh writes:

That sum will be greeted with plenty of scepticism by a fanbase still reeling from Benitez’ departure, upset at owner Mike Ashley’s running of the club and divided over Perez’ move to a Premier League rival.

He then reasserts him claims of the large transfer budget by referring to sources inside the club. He continues:

But insiders are adamant that Lee Charnley will honour his April pledge that £60m plus every penny raised through sales is to be invested in the team and the new man will be provided with the sort of funds his predecessor could only dream about.

I think Alan Shearer has the appropriate response to this claim.

    Yeah your right.

    Diddly

The hope is all we have but it’s the hope that kills. Once season ticket renewal passes and it will be extended , perhaps then it will be dead completely.

Newcastle is an international airport. It does cater for planes international, and its an airport, hence the planes landing/ taking off 🙂

It’s the despair and helplessness that kills not the hope. Hope is the springboard to belief and knowing. If someone chooses to avoid hope, preferring to get comfortable in despair because they are afraid of heartbreak, then this is a sad situation in my view.

Better to have loved and lost chancel! I’ll love the dream until it comes true!!
Even the most cynical must admit that a private jet leaving from the Royal Dubai airport direct to Newcastle, then being scheduled to fly to Luton airport (the exact same route Ashley’s helicopter did 2 days ago) the afternoon after the players arrive back at the training ground is very intriguing.
Today’s the day I’m absolutely convinced!!
Meeting the players this morning, announcement at a lunchtime presser then off to London to sign it all off.
Independence Day! Captain AmeriMag was born for this!! Bring it on BZG I can’t wait!!

    Regarding flight.

Do you not reckon Newcastle airport (full of geordies, workers, bag handlers etc) travellers… would miss BZG getting through the checkin and out of the airport, private taxi etc. Reporters would of been aware of the plane. No reports as theres nothing in it…

Let’s assume DubaiDJSmiley is correct and there is an upcoming statement from BZG. I think it fair to assume that the statement will say one of two things: sorry, blah blah tried blah blah unfortunately blah blah OR, we are pleased to announce that BZG are the proud new owners of NUFC.
If the statement is the former, saying the sale is off, then I expect it will be announced after season ticket deadline as a courtesy to Ashley (why bother). If the announcement is that their attempt to buy Newcastle is off, why delay the announcement of this statement? If the plane action is related to BZG, why bother if it’s off?
If it’s the good news we all want and if the flights are BZG related, then this can only be a good sign. Unless, of course, you are wearing nufc Scepticals.

I actually think that the plane is nothing but just so you know…. The Sheikh doesn’t have to be there and not everyone wears the clothes that are easily noticed!!

Advisors etc would slip through completely unrecognised!

It does look a coincidence.. Abu Dhabi to Newcastle then Newcastle to Luton!! Very interesting flights!!

But like I said… Probably just nothing because we are nufc and we are jabbas play thing!!

All hope and optimism has gone. Then again, what can you do?None of u can do anything.
Let’s hope they hire an ambitious manager in the mould of Arteta,Bruno Genesio and the like.If it is the likes of Mark Hughes and Tony Pulis, I’m finally done with the club.

If bzg were coming, why would we be chasing martinez. I want to believe but we will probably need to look abroad for a coach under Ashley as most won’t touch us in England. To a foreign coach used to restrictions and a DOF, we would be attractive. Christian Gross anyone? 🙂

There needs to be more communication between sets of fans, if Chopper watch, Plane watch, Airport watch and MarkBro’s Dad had all shared their information, we could have had boots on the ground ready see who got off that plane. Snap a few photo’s, send them to Jib and we would have soon known everything about them.

Just trying to pick through the bones to find any takeover reality that it might not yet be dead (i.e. not look at planes); facts are that three days ago Rafa said he wasn’t sure who the owner was going to be, so left. Ashley claimed last week – and it was his words, make no mistake – that Rafa wasn’t in the thinking of prospective new owners. Those two things kind of tally – Rafa’s not going to say the same, he’s never going to publicly claim he’s not wanted, image damage!

Looking at the history of Man City’s takeover, it seemed to be a relatively quick deal once agreed, but it still took 4 weeks to officially clear; they sanctioned the spend on Robinho on 1st Sep, then completed the deal 27th Sep. Thaksin was obviously more of a desperate seller, so the opposite of our demon headmaster, so that probably helped it go by quicker.

Joselu is ‘sold’ but hasn’t gone. Perez could in theory be sold in a takeover due to a release clause – something to do with liquid/current assets balancing out. Slightly interesting that the club have somehow said “all of that money goes into the transfer pot”. A comment derided as a usual lie, but I think the statement in the event of a takeover would have to actually be true?

Final one; at 08:44 this morning another host of old stories flagged up on Newsnow. Could be something, could be nothing.

Presume Ashley hated rafa. All being equal, all he needed to do was give him 60mill plus sales, a gradual investment in facilities and a compromise to allow him to buy one or two older guys here and there, below a certain value. Instead raga trots off to a club nobody has ever heard of as presumably no half decent European clubs wanted him. Seems like a massive waste but I was surprised (as was jail without daring to admit it) that he would end up in a low rated obscure Chinese outfit. And we get martinez (maybe) and relegation (bottom 5 for sure with him, can’t defend for peanuts)

I am starting to lean towards the “if it was off then why would BZG delay the statement”

Its possible that BZG said to Ashlie this is our offer and you have a deadline of said date, if not done by this date we’re off, Ashley hoping other buy (Kenyon maybe) could stump up the cash but proven unable to do so and forced Ashlie’s hand to make the deal.

Might explain the unexpected actions from the club over the last 10 days.
