Report – Newcastle’s Transfer Budget To Top £100m

The Daily Star are reporting that Newcastle’s transfer budget this summer will top £100m, which if spent in total would easily be the highest spent in any transfer window by the club.

How the Daily Star come to this amount is not as straightforward as the title of the article suggests. Basically they are reporting that the transfer budget is £60m plus the £30m from the sale of Ayoze Perez. But that only amounts to £90m you might be asking.

Well, I’ll leave it to Ian Murtagh of the Daily Star to fill you in on the rest of it:

Newcastle sources insist the cash raised from Perez’ imminent move to the Foxes will be added to the £60m already promised to Rafa Benitez before his own departure earlier this week.

And with wantaway Isaac Hayden keen to quit St James’ Park for personal reasons and unlikely to leave for less than £15m, Benitez’ replacement will have a budget for the season running into nine figures.

As you can see, Murtagh is adding player sales to this amount and he is including Isaac Hayden in that equation.

It is true that Isaac Hayden will want to leave this summer to be closer to home for personal reasons. Rafa Benitez was sympathetic to Isaac and was seemingly resigned to his departure this summer.

However, we’ll have to see what happens under the new manager. Though we would expect the club to respect Isaac’s request as it is legitimate and he has acted professionally throughout this season.

Though there is yet to be an offer for Hayden and until one of significant value comes in, Isaac is a Newcastle United player.

Ian Murtagh also touches on the likely skepticism by fans to this assertion or reinvesting in the squad, as it not very Ashley-esque. Ian Murtagh writes:

That sum will be greeted with plenty of scepticism by a fanbase still reeling from Benitez’ departure, upset at owner Mike Ashley’s running of the club and divided over Perez’ move to a Premier League rival.

He then reasserts him claims of the large transfer budget by referring to sources inside the club. He continues:

But insiders are adamant that Lee Charnley will honour his April pledge that £60m plus every penny raised through sales is to be invested in the team and the new man will be provided with the sort of funds his predecessor could only dream about.

I think Alan Shearer has the appropriate response to this claim.

I remember reading, on twitter, Steve Wraith saying, when questioned about NUST’s lack of action against Ashley, that things would be different with a new board. Now he’s tweeting that he’s met Ashley and Charnley. IMO all he cares about is his own minor celebrity and furthering his own nufc based events business.
Elections are every january, I think, don’t know if members can vote to sack the board. Personally, if we are stuck with the leech, I think dialogue and trying to influence better footballing decisions at the club is not a bad thing. Whether he will listen is another matter.
Steve Wraith and his cronies are to NUST what Tony and his Blairites are/were to the labour party. We need a Corbyn.

I’d like to hear from regards poster and duplicitous coward Joe Sophistication as to why Bill’s son is back left the blog (for good) this time, according to the man himself it was because of the rubbish being posted on here and being accused of being shill, he was called a lot worse than that in his many years of posting nonsense in the past and that didn’t seem to bother him. My take is that he returned solely to ram it down our throats that Mikey held out and only sold us to a group that could move us forward unlike SJH, as a takeover is looking less and less likely his mask of not defending Ashley was quickly beginning to slip, his balls of steel, rhino skin, definitely not a buffoon, much worse under former regimes yatter yatter. He couldn’t handle admitting he was wrong and being called out for it.

Didn’t it come out that Shola was on the board of an agency for players, along with llambias (amongst others) ?

Seems very dodgy that he was hired by the club during this supposed takeover. Or maybe it’s one last finger in the pie?

Is Ashley gambling that we are just good enough to stay up compared to Norwich, WBA , Sheffield United and Brighton and maybe Southampton ? The rest are hardened veterans with ambition and squad strength and know what to do to stay up.
Or does he want relegation for some strange, perverted financial reason ?

I’m going to ring Amanda, again, she said she’d call me back.

Steve, I was at the meeting the other night, NUST is not a protest organisation so should be at least impartial, why are you as a prominent member endorsing not boycotting?

Regarding the cycling protests, there is absolutely nothing they can do about it, the guys with the camera’s won’t have a clue what the protests are about anyway and we don’t need to display the banners until camera’s are going past the spectators . A fracking protest group Hijacked the Tour de Yorkshire earlier this year that was televised live. The fracking group were interviewed on local TV it was great publicity for their cause

I like it Genji, thousands of fans in black and white shirts with ‘HOPE’ written on the back. Lying face down around SJP, playing dead. Take an aerial shot of an empty SJP surrounded by ‘dead’ geordies. This could be one of many Ashley Out art pieces. Prints could be sold to raise money to support protesters, the collection could go on tour to raise awareness elsewhere…….Take some organising mind.
