The odds are being slashed for Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder to become the next boss at Newcastle. Though we can find no concrete link with the 51-year-old Sheffield man.
Wilder has done extremely well at Sheffield United bringing them back to the Premier League for the first time in over a decade. He also took over the club just three years ago when they were mired in a five-year spell in League One.
Wilder began his coaching career at Alfreton Town in 2001. He then moved to Halifax Town, the last club he had played for, in 2002 where he replaced one Neil Redfearn who was acting as their caretaker manager.
He moved on to Oxford United in 2008 when they were in still in non-league football in the National League. He did guide them up into the Football League before taking the helm at Northampton Town.
While at Northampton Town, Wilder got them promoted to League One in his second season with the Cobblers. He was also the manager there when Newcastle bought striker Ivan Toney in August of 2015.
Chris Wilder– very good at getting teams promoted
He then joined Sheffield United who he has guided all the way from League One to the Premier League in a very short period of time.
We are not sure if there is any interest in Chris Wilder or if he would even entertain leaving Sheffield United having just brought them into the Premier League.
We don’t really think this would be a great appointment for Newcastle who need an established top-tier manager to come in and get the fan base excited again.
We respect Chris immensely for his rise from the lower leagues all the way to the Premier League and look forward to seeing how his Sheffield team perform this year. We just don’t think he would be a good fit at Newcastle at the moment.
Though with Lee Charnley having just returned from his European meetings with contacts and agents of foreign managers, maybe his return home can explain the change in the odds.

Comment #1Seems like the least likely option of all of the links.
He’s just brought them up and has a full pre season with players he knows.

Loads of people call it Notts Forest, almost every forest fan I’ve ever met uses Notts. It’s purely an abbreviation of a place name. It’s like trying to say Manchester City fans can’t use Man, that is purely for Man U.
I don’t know the reasoning behind this, but maybe Jazzy, as having lived in Nottingham might know, but the difference comes when being abbreviated in writing results pages, tables, etc. Notts County, Nottm Forest.

Could do a lot worse but it just seems a very strange link. I thought he was a Sheffield lad too so surely he wouldn’t want to leave.
Mind you I think anyone that looks at the mess created and still takes the job is either desperate or a mercenary.

Comment #8Absolutely zero chance Wilder, born and bred Blade, would be walking away from what is undoubtedly an absolute dream come true for him. Managing his boyhood and lifelong club in the Premier league.
He’s been outspoken on their lack of player investment from what I recall, but there is no way he’d turn his back on them now, especially for a club that he would be equally sceptical on player investment.

Comment #10He’s a very good manager. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves though because he’s a fat bloke from Sheffield. I don’t think he’d be keen on leaving his boyhood club to work for Mike Ashley to be honest.

Comment #13Is there any non league managers Ashley could consider, they could bring part time players as well. Ashley would only have to pay them on match days.

Comment #15If you do a Google search using the criteria Notts Forest. The hits you get are all headed Nottingham Forest.
Obviously when the oaf was Googling he surmised that as the results were all Nottingham Forest that Notts Forest was not correct.
All proper football folk know the abbreviation for Forest. But it is a good example of this “Johnny come lately” oaf of a football fan not knowing a lot about the game – despite trying to link his way to show he has a wide football knowledge.
Give it up Jib you’ve been caned again.

Comment #20Apparently Notts County isn’t an abbreviation at all. That is their full name. Nottingham Forest were originally just called Forest, and actually played at the County Ground. The abbreviation to Nottm is the standard abbreviation for the city, which is why it is used officially. But locally it is still referred to as Notts by most.
This google thing is amazing!!

Comment #33Notts County is the club that represents the county of Nottinghamshire. Forest represents the city of Nottingham.
Just like Yorkshire is abbreviated to Yorks and Lancashire to Lancs.

Comment #37What was that about Charnleys wife getting drunk and spilling the beans on the takeover? She might be equally disappointed when he tells her ‘We tried, but we couldn’t get it over the line’. Maybe she was leaving him and this is his futile attempt to keep her? “But honey, don’t go, I’m about to become a millionaire”.
Where did that rumour come from anybody?
