Another English Manager May Soon Be Linked To Newcastle

The odds are being slashed for Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder to become the next boss at Newcastle. Though we can find no concrete link with the 51-year-old Sheffield man.

Wilder has done extremely well at Sheffield United bringing them back to the Premier League for the first time in over a decade. He also took over the club just three years ago when they were mired in a five-year spell in League One.

Wilder began his coaching career at Alfreton Town in 2001. He then moved to Halifax Town, the last club he had played for, in 2002 where he replaced one Neil Redfearn who was acting as their caretaker manager.

He moved on to Oxford United in 2008 when they were in still in non-league football in the National League. He did guide them up into the Football League before taking the helm at Northampton Town.

While at Northampton Town, Wilder got them promoted to League One in his second season with the Cobblers. He was also the manager there when Newcastle bought striker Ivan Toney in August of 2015.

Chris Wilder– very good at getting teams promoted

He then joined Sheffield United who he has guided all the way from League One to the Premier League in a very short period of time.

We are not sure if there is any interest in Chris Wilder or if he would even entertain leaving Sheffield United having just brought them into the Premier League.

We don’t really think this would be a great appointment for Newcastle who need an established top-tier manager to come in and get the fan base excited again.

We respect Chris immensely for his rise from the lower leagues all the way to the Premier League and look forward to seeing how his Sheffield team perform this year. We just don’t think he would be a good fit at Newcastle at the moment.

Though with Lee Charnley having just returned from his European meetings with contacts and agents of foreign managers, maybe his return home can explain the change in the odds.

Thanks for the kind words mate but we all know we are wasting our time with him. And as to your question I don’t have the foggiest mate if I am honest.

Wilder has done outstanding work on a show string. Listen to the way his players almost universally talk about him. Read a bit more on him, he is meticulous and motivational, and has built squads into more than the sum of their parts. He fits the Ashley remit completely.

We could do a lot worse – you can take that as a lack of ambition or an understanding of what is required to work under Ashley. Anyone just outright saying he is unambitious is looking at the team names rather than his references and achievements.

But there is no way he would walk away from his boyhood team. Not right now, not on the cusp of fulfilling what would be a dream for most fans. Chances are they will go down, and he may gain enough credence over the season to get another Prem job then. But he won’t leave now.

Feels like the same year ever since ashley took over, Shepard and SJG have alot to answer for selling the club to him.

Honestly if you’d been in a coma since Ashley’s first season here and woke up today you’d still think a decade hadn’t passed by.

No takeover, no transfers, no manager but I guarantee 52k will be flocking to see the opening game…..welcome to nufc!!

    Our Toon,
Cheers mate. Everything works out in the wash, so I’m not worrying and over thinking.

I more hate being back in the UK/miss Malawi/home and still struggling with a sort of weird reverse culture shock.

It’s why I’ve been far less regular on the blog for the past 18months or so though.

You can’t blame SJH – when Ashley said he wanted to buy Newcastle to promote his sports gear he probably didn’t think it would mean sacrificing the club to advertise his own stuff. FFS was pretty I’ll and in hospital wasn’t he at the time so hardly fair to blame him

It turns out that after all this time some can’t get their head round the fact that Ashley is virtually unique among club owners. Other owners market the club and make the club itself an attractive brand, and makes it earn money accordingly. Ashley has taken even the club identity, let alone it’s merchandise, and used it to heighten his own sports domain. Nufc is basically another absorbed marque, like Lonsdale, Dunlop etc. It has no estate of its own.

If you ever go to Beamish museum you’ll notice how old fashioned everything is, as it is like stepping back in time. If you actually stepped back in time and visited our stadium in 2007 it would look more modern than it does now.

    Irish,
Did you know, in the Premier league, Joe Kinnear averaged 1.09 points per game at Newcastle in the Premier League. Rafa managed 1.18.

Kinnear gets far more stick than he deserves for his on field record at Newcastle. Off the pitch, well, he made a rod for his own back, but one that allowed the pressure to be lifted from his players.

On his record in charge we would have stayed up that season if he hadn’t had his heart issues.

You are going beyond free speech and are literally trolling Bobbybee, he has given you an explanation so leave it. I was accused by regular poster with not much time on his hands and duplicitous coward Joe Sophistication of hounding Bill’s son is back for an explanation as to why he changed his mind on Mike Ashley, I still haven’t heard that explanation.

Ok Tony let’s see you justify yourself after this, the logic around your “Damascene moment” analogy.

Bit of biblical history for you – Saul was a devout Jew tasked with arresting and persecuting the followers of a new movement but after his revelation at Damascus totally renounced his purpose to actually end up being a major factor in driving the movement forward.

That analogy does not fit Bobbybee. He has not “seen the light”, in fact he remains sceptical, unlike Saul who was completely converted. Bobbybee has made a magnanimous concession which he will understandably renounce if he sees it is not supported. His concession is to be lauded especially in light of his conviction to the contrary.

Not only is your analogy repetitively boring, it is completely bland, logically baseless and devoid of any purpose. You need to be gone.

    Longwe,
Unless he’s after a job, the only other explanations are that a: he’s seriously hard up with a gambling and failed investment problem or b: KBA have some revealing photos of him and some “Columbian party girls” that were arranged by Mikey some time back and might have been leaked tothe snu if he didn’t give that talk that was promised a good while back???

    Jail,
I can’t remember Nolan ever having gambling rumours, a Colombian problem, but possibly not the party girls you mention.

If he’s after a job, then he must believe there is no sale. Yet he says he is sure the sale will happen, and that Ashley wants it. Unless he is looking to make a jump to retail and manage the store on Northumberland St….

I think Nolan’s mrs has probably caught him in/knows about enough compromising situations that a few photos wouldnt unduly worry him.

The more I think about it all, the closer I get to the conclusion he may actually think that….
