Will Mike Ashley break with his history of only hiring out of work managers this time around? Due to his nature, we would not expect him to. Though Lee Charnley did try to woo Steve McClaren from Derby when Alan Pardew left for Crystal Palace. He got his man the following summer though. Good job Lee!
So if this takeover does fall through, who is likely to be the next manager of Newcastle United?
If we take Mike Ashley’s record of only hiring unattached managers or appointing someone from within, that would exclude many of the managers reported to be in line for the job.
Some of these currently employed have already reportedly distanced themselves from the position; Sergio Conceicao of Porto, Patrick Vieira of Nice, and recently Steven Gerrard of Rangers.
However, managers like Sean Dyche and Roberto Martinez are still considered to be top candidates and have thus far not made any comments on their links to the position.
Though with reports of Sean Dyche having £10M compensation fee attached, it is highly doubtful that Mike Ashley would bring in any manager that would cost him a fee of any kind let alone one that high.
So this could also rule out Chris Wilder of Sheffield United who is under contract until 2021 as well as Rui Faria, Jose Mourinho’s longtime assistant who currently is the manager of Al-Duhail in Qatar.
Quique Sanchez Flores– strong candidate as next manager of Newcastle United
So who does that leave?
Some of the managers currently available and have been linked no matter how dubiously are Jose Mourinho, Laurent Blanc, David Moyes, Quique Sanchez Flores, Garry Monk, Giovanni von Bronckhorst, Claudio Ranieri, Mark Hughes, Roy Keane, and Gennaro Gattuso.
If we include assistant managers in that list there is Mikel Arteta of Manchester City. The Sun has a questionable report of John Terry of Aston Villa coming into the mix as well.
There are also others with whom we have not been linked but are still available. Among those are Rudi Garcia, Heiko Herrlich, Michael Laudrup, and Domenico Tedesco.
We have barely scratched the surface of all the managers linked or who are available. We haven’t even mentioned a couple of names that could very well get the job – Neil Redfearn or Ben Dawson.
However we would expect from past history, the next manager to come from either within the club or someone currently unattached. Of those, we feel the best options (excluding Jose Mourinho and assuming there is no takeover) to be Quique Sanchez Flores, Rudi Garcia, or Laurent Blanc.

Comment #2Garcia or Flores would actually be good shouts for managers if the club had a proper football structure!
Flores got a lot of praise when he was at Watford although seemed to tail away nearer the end of his time not sure why?
It honestly feels like we will be going into the season without a decent coach

Comment #3The wall of silence from the club or any major news source is the most intriguing part.
I just don’t get it. Newcastle is always big news yet nothing is happening. That’s the only thing that keeps me thinking something is going on with a takeover.
Either that or it’s toon 22 who will win over the whole world when it turns out to be PR genius by Bishop.

Comment #12toon22, Yes, It keeps alive the positive momentum which will carry us to a brighter future, whilest you maintain your focus on what you do not want, increasing your desire for change, but maintaining Ashley’s position in the collective consciousness. This makes you an Ashley Shill, as your focus is on Ashley as our owner.

Comment #13BZG group has insisted today that it has completed “every aspect required in takeover process.” Therefore the ball is firmly in Ashley’s court. Any further delay now, or failure to complete sale, is down to him and him alone.

If the statement is true then they’ve also said both parties have done all they can and itll be no fault of either side if it doesn’t go through. Which to me says it’s the fit and proper test rather than Ashley

Comment #20Its just Toon22 in his deluded world. I can respect the guy’s hatred for Ashley, completely normal. But the constant nonsense about Shills and his paranoia? Gimme a break. What benefit can Fats get from all this nonsense? He may be a reluctant seller but all this bad PR and losing rafa is only damaging him.

Comment #31Our Toon #19 .. you could be right. We’re just interpreting. I think it’s possible they’re just being polite, and maybe saying the people they actually negotiated with, like Barnes snd the lawyers behaved, professionally, but that they’ve done everything they can now and its only Ashley who can cause a deal to fail.Who knows ? Hopefully it can’t be long one way or the other now though ..:)

Comment #35I’m very concerned about how this is playing out, an ex-pat journalist in Dubai trying to settle the natives on the potential of a £350m deal when there is less than 5 weeks to go in the transfer window… I’m still downgraded to the hope over expectation camp, something’s amiss here, the unprofessionalism of both parties (Ashley for his silence as this all plays into his hands and BZG for releasing statements via a second rate journalist in the Gulf), why could that not have been leaked via a more household name and reputable source, did local UK rags not want to run with this as the sense the bullclap from it?
