Will Mike Ashley break with his history of only hiring out of work managers this time around? Due to his nature, we would not expect him to. Though Lee Charnley did try to woo Steve McClaren from Derby when Alan Pardew left for Crystal Palace. He got his man the following summer though. Good job Lee!
So if this takeover does fall through, who is likely to be the next manager of Newcastle United?
If we take Mike Ashley’s record of only hiring unattached managers or appointing someone from within, that would exclude many of the managers reported to be in line for the job.
Some of these currently employed have already reportedly distanced themselves from the position; Sergio Conceicao of Porto, Patrick Vieira of Nice, and recently Steven Gerrard of Rangers.
However, managers like Sean Dyche and Roberto Martinez are still considered to be top candidates and have thus far not made any comments on their links to the position.
Though with reports of Sean Dyche having £10M compensation fee attached, it is highly doubtful that Mike Ashley would bring in any manager that would cost him a fee of any kind let alone one that high.
So this could also rule out Chris Wilder of Sheffield United who is under contract until 2021 as well as Rui Faria, Jose Mourinho’s longtime assistant who currently is the manager of Al-Duhail in Qatar.
Quique Sanchez Flores– strong candidate as next manager of Newcastle United
So who does that leave?
Some of the managers currently available and have been linked no matter how dubiously are Jose Mourinho, Laurent Blanc, David Moyes, Quique Sanchez Flores, Garry Monk, Giovanni von Bronckhorst, Claudio Ranieri, Mark Hughes, Roy Keane, and Gennaro Gattuso.
If we include assistant managers in that list there is Mikel Arteta of Manchester City. The Sun has a questionable report of John Terry of Aston Villa coming into the mix as well.
There are also others with whom we have not been linked but are still available. Among those are Rudi Garcia, Heiko Herrlich, Michael Laudrup, and Domenico Tedesco.
We have barely scratched the surface of all the managers linked or who are available. We haven’t even mentioned a couple of names that could very well get the job – Neil Redfearn or Ben Dawson.
However we would expect from past history, the next manager to come from either within the club or someone currently unattached. Of those, we feel the best options (excluding Jose Mourinho and assuming there is no takeover) to be Quique Sanchez Flores, Rudi Garcia, or Laurent Blanc.

In answer to your earlier question.
I have seen things that could be an attempt from PR but I don’t feel that every single person who has a different opinion must be PR or one Jibs alts, I think he must 85% of the posters on here by your reckoning.
The vast majority want the Tapeworm out. Having a little hope doesn’t stop that or stop people planning for what comes next.

Comment #129toon22, As you are cynical and jaded with regards to Ashley selling the club, I am cynical and jaded about a tory/new labour parliament doing anything to threaten the livelihood of the uber wealthy and their criminal enterprises. Just as you see me as naive in respect of my support for BZG, I see your lack of understanding of parliamentary time scales, and your belief that parliament will come to the defence of the little man equally naive.
The only way this bill will be passed, is if there is a labour government (a propper one).

Comment #131Mr Tubbs going to the moon should not have been mentioned on here. The greenhorns, trainee vicars and ex social workers ( ok knackers) will be rushing out to buy telescopes to stargaze. They will then announce all sorts of weird sightings which they will then incorporate into their takeover theories -suggesting it is a sign the club is being sold.

Comment #142The level of silence and inactivity at the club can surely mean only one thing; the takeover is imminent. I just can’t see why they wouldn’t have lined up a cheap and cheerful out of work coach knowing Rafa was leaving unless they are waiting for the new owners. Also, I can’t see even Ashley, thick skinned though he is surviving another season in which we will surely be relegated without Rafa and big money investment on the squad. Let’s face it, to replace Rondon and Ayoze, our only source of goals, will cost £60 – £80 million.
Bye bye Mikey. You’ll be missed!

Comment #149droppy, I think if this Bill was passed, and serious forensic investigations were taken into the finances of football, it would expose a whole web of tax evasion, bribery, corruption and money laundering and Ashley would IMO only be a small fish compared to some exposed. Worst case scenario, is BZG buy us, we start having success on the field, the new bill is passed and BZG are exposed for laundering ill gotten cash through the club.

Comment #157There was a time last season ( not the season just gone) that Mo Diame was better than Pogba, hes obviously not better than Pogba but Pogba is so unpredictable from game to game, sometimes ultra reliability and skill rather than ultra skill and little reliability…… longstaff has the potential for both, Pogba will always be a showboater first

Luke chadwick has more prem league medals than stevie gerrard but does that mean hes better?
The way longstaff played in every game he started last season was brilliant, if he keeps improving the way he has, which is doubtful after rafa was forced out, but he does look a real prospect and if he keeps that up then id hold on to him b4 id try 2 get pogba
Pogba has all the ability needed in a top player but has a terrible attitude and upsets the dressing room
I kno who id have and it wouldnt b pogba

Comment #160The Chron journos and Sky have been noticeably cool on the BZG takeover for weeks, Chron saying definitively ‘no bid’ and ‘O&D tests not even started’ in direct contradiction of BZG group statements.
Where are the negative stories coming from ? Keen investigative journalism from Lee Ryder et al ? Or just whispers from their ‘contacts’ at Newcsastle ?
Gosh that’s a hard one , as the actress said to the bishop. Whatever theyre getting from Charnley or Bishop must be with Ashley’s approval.
To me, theyre laying the groundwork in case Ashley decides to blow up the deal. Then they’ll be sble to swing seamlessly into smear mode, ‘time-wasters’ and ‘tyre-kickers’ bkah blah blah.
We’ve alk seen it before. Repeatedly. It’s Ashley’s standard modus operandi and the sad thing is that, if it does pan out like that there will be some gullible enough to buy into his lies again.
Hopefully the Sheik will drag him kicking and scresming over the line and his infestation of Newcastle will end. But if it doesn’t happen we know in advance what all those Ashley-friendly journos will be saying .
