There has been no reporting from either Sky Sports or the Chronicle about Peter Redding’s alleged statements from BZG. The statement has however been reported in the Sun and in outlets in Dubai among others.
After being asked on Twitter why there has been no reports of the BZG statement, Keith Downie of Sky Sports simply stated the following:
Because I don’t believe it.
— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) July 8, 2019
When questioned on Twitter about the statement at least being worthy of reporting whether true of false, Keith responded with:
Are you aware how desperate that sounds? There’s a reason who no credible journalist has reported it.
— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) July 8, 2019
He then goes further and asserts that he does not believe the statement because Peter Redding and the avenue used are unreliable:
1 & 3
— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) July 8, 2019
When further pressed and asked what exactly he doesn’t believe, whether the statement is not from BZG or if BZG are lying, he clarified his initial statement with:
I have no idea. But why would a company who say they’re trying to buy a PL football club put a statement out through those avenues?
— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) July 8, 2019
Many Newcastle supporters will feel exactly as Keith Downie does that releasing a statement like this, in this format, is very questionable. However the complete silence by Sky Sports and the Chronicle are very strange to say the least.
Also, I don’t think you want to go by the credo that you will only report what you believe to be true. That is for the audience to decide. And if your network is constantly trotting out the likes of Dennis Wise to pump up Mike Ashley, then you may not be following that credo too well.

It’s a bizarre way to release any news but if it meant the end of the Tapeworm I would take information in any form at all.

Comment #7Just as Ashley feels he is a law unto himself then the BZG guys obviously feel they can say what they want however unconventional .
I can’t imagine those statements were fictitious or they would have been refuted by now and I think Fatash has met his match here in the ducking and diving arena.

Comment #11Been reading the blog on and off since 2009 and often enjoy the craik in the comments section… just wanted to chime in and say hi.
Season ticket holder till 2008/09, but Joe Kinnear was the straw that broke the camels back for me, early on in the reign of the FCB.
Like many on here, my emotions have been toyed with far too much over the last 10 years with regards to takeovers and fakeovers…
This one does feel different, just really hope im not setting myself up for another dissapointment.
Really we hope we fine out one way or the other within the next few days, but i am truly hopful of a positive outcome. I am by no means an ITK, just got a positive feeling in my gut.

Comment #14Worst case – Red Light:
We r not taken over due to the most elaborate smoke & mirrors event or dedicated goal post moving. No proper manager until transfer window nearly closed and some last minute panic buys. Relegation looms whilst the season is unbearable and we r up for sale again in Jan. Blog is inhospitable and everyone cries!
Best case – Green Light:
Takeover, new manager, massive pot o gold, new amazing players, awesome season. Win something. Blog is the best. Everyone cries for joy!
With MA at the helm of this sinking vessel I just can’t believe in green light……please let me be wrong

I hope you’re a new poster, that’s a great idea, that picture with boycott Arsenal stuck on every metro window, bus window, bus stop, it needs funding though and it needs volunteers to make sure they get stuck everywhere, in fact that picture along with him sticking his fingers up, his most sneering pose, which there are many, even his ridiculous jeans. I think if this takeover is finally called off then people will wake up. The shambles that is engulfing us right now, is hopefully only pointing to one thing and that is a deal isn’t far away, I can’t possibly see how it’s in his interests to carry on behaving like this and stringing this thing along if there wasn’t a takeover or a complete fire sale to claw half is asking price back then get the rest in parachute payments while we sunk in to league one, is he willing to to that to his reputation is a different matter, something has to give.

Comment #30This is utterly fcuking absurd. How can the club repeatedly refuse to talk? Why have “reporters” supplanted actual journalists, so no-one in the media has 1) the balls, 2) the intelligence and 3) the contacts to get an answer? How has nobody confronted Charnley, Ashley, the FA, the PL for some kind of comment? You cannot just repeat “no comment”, it’s not fcuking parliament for chrissakes.
Mansour came in, dealt with Thaksin, nothing was particularly private or “no comment”, they agreed a price, bought Robinho then completed everything three weeks later. Our club is an absolute disgusting, abysmal, abhorrent disgrace. Lee Charnley should be hauled from his house in chains and made to talk. Ashley should be banned from buying businesses, an embargo should be placed on him; the Debenhams debacle is utterly vomit-inducing. And there is NOT ONE PEEP from the FA, or the Premier League. We have to suffer the utter embarrassment of selling our top scorer for £30m, but have absolutely NO intention of replacing him.
I do not understand in the slightest how it’s allowed. If I had the time and a press badge I’d be either at St. George’s, St. James or St. Peter’s Gates banging on doors demanding answers. “No Comment” simply doesn’t wash – THE CLUB CAN SAY THERE’S AN NDA IN PLACE AND ARE THEREFORE NOT AT LIBERTY TO DISCUSS DETAILS. They can admit to being in a potential takeover, they can state recruitment of both players and managers is paused until it’s resolved.
They do NOT have to say “no comment”. They do NOT have to stay silent. NOTHING precludes them from comment – they are just easily able to do so because there are NO competent journalists and NO authorities making them speak.
I hate this club. I couldn’t give a toss who comes in, I’m not following this club ’til FatAsh takes his cancerous, leeching, slobbering self away from this place, with his pet Penfold.

Comment #39I don’t know the truth of the takeover. None of us do. But lets assume for one moment the BZG are not pathological liarss intent on trashing any reputation they have by fronting an elaborate Ashley fakeover to fool fans. Lets assume they’re genuine.
Given all the negative press and sly smears being fed to Ashley-friendly journos in the UK how do they respond. How do they reassure the fanbase they want to build a relationship with ?
Well not by giving exclusives to the Chron or Sky or the rest of Ashleys press mates. The ones who have been slagging them off and would spin anything said to suit Ashley.
Why wouldnt they use a local man they trust (Redding) to relay their reassurance on Twitter direct to the fans. Setting the record straight. Cutting down Ashleys wriggle room. Thats how its done these days. Direct through social media. Not via tired old hacks.
It’s clever on their part. To play Ashleys game by his rules wouldn’t be.

I bet this negativity towards Mike Ashley is breaking your heart, you say you can’t wait to see the back of him but just can’t let him go, I bet you’re sitting in your Lonsdale pj’s right now drinking from your SD mug, violently shaking and wondering when you’re ever going to leave a sensible post again!
