Poll On Steve Bruce As Local Journalists Verify Him As Likely Next Manager

Mark Douglas of the Chronicle has tweeted confirmation of earlier reports from the Telegraph that Steve Bruce’s appointment is very close and barring an unexpected turn, very likely.

This is what Mark Douglas has tweeted:

Keith Downie has also reported that colleague Richard Graves has seen Steve Bruce leaving Hillsborough this morning. Sheffield Wednesday staff and players reportedly have the day off today.

It is looking very much like Steve Bruce will be the next manager at Newcastle United. While this is extremely raw right now, we will put out a poll on this potential appointment.

We expect the response to be very much in the negative as this is quite a shock at the moment. We have gone with the question of supporting Steve Bruce rather than being happy with him as the choice.

Would You Support Steve Bruce As The Next Manager Of Newcastle United?

For me if cauliflower heed had any feelings for this club or as a Geordie …. he wouldn’t work for the tapeworm. If he takes job I hope the team wins and does well, but it won’t change the fact he’s in the tapeworms pocket and anyone willing to accept that, for me, is the enemy.

Toon 22: Loans are listed in the accounts. All the money, profits the lot, belongs to “Jabba”. He owns the club.

I agree about not investing in facilities, indeed we can all agree that we do not see the level of player we want in our team. But he is not pocketing any cash (up to YE 2018).

He gets his wad by buying the club at £120m ish is and selling it for £350m.

Does anyone know what kind of football Bruce is going to play ?

I seem to remember him doing 3 at the back with Robertson and Elmohady as wing backs but can’t remember much other than that

Will the players give 100% now? Can see Richie and Lascalles always trying but whenever the rest of the team stops trying we always seemed to get beaten easily due to us not having a lot of quality on the ball

Funny how some fans delight in pointing out how excellent the accounts are
They think that somehow we’re stupid enough to not be able to see for ourselves exactly what’s going on

We want Jabba gone regardless now

toon kk. I am making the point that Mike Ashley is not taking money out of the club (at least up to the financial Year End 2017-18). I have provided a link to proof of this. How the club is run is a different matter.

Embarrassed: If you think Mike Ashley is running the club well you are clearly deluded.

Ashley is currently top (or bottom dependant on your point of view) of the current worst premier league football owners

He’s even included in the list of worst football club owners EVER!!

Murphy Muto Almiron and Gayle is a pretty rapid front 4 but lacks quality on the ball and composure for scoring goals

All of them would get knocked off the ball pretty easily as well…..

Embarrased by this blog – let’s do a side-by-side comparison with Leicester and Southampton shall we, from their 2018 accounts:

    (Leicester/Southampton/Newcastle)

    Turnover: £158.8m / £148.4m / £178.4m
    Wage Bill: £97.4m / £96.3m / £93.6m
Net Player Trading (book value additions less disposals): £85m investment / £58.3m investment / £20m profit (presumably spent on Miggy)

Leicester brought a net profit of £80m forward from their 2017 champions league season but aside of that I’m genuinely at a loss as to what’s going on here. We earned more, spent less.

What about the £1 charge every time you use your card in the ground, all goes to him as he owns the company that runs the machines.

What about the warehouse rent to SD, despite them getting free advertising.

What about selling the land at strawberry pl, who got that money and was it a fair amounts.

Do us a favour, jog on.

    Rob1971,

I’ve no idea how individual players will view the appointment of Bruce.

Some will see it as a new start, others will be calling Diame and asking his opinion and others will no doubt be gutted that Rafa has left.

But… they are professionals, and I doubt that any of them have lost confidence in their own ability just because a manager has left.

The majority, if not all, will be out to impress him because they’ll want to be in the first team

Prejudging that Bruce will be a disaster and relegation a certainty is just plain daft.

Jib #198, this is exactly why I have been banging on about the identity of the manager being irrelevant.

It’s yet another slap in the face from the fat one, but Bruce is not the source of our issues, Ashley is.

    We need to remain focused.

Not sure many are listening, however.

Tom1664. Thanks for pointing this out. It shows a good range of “scale” on the turnover of clubs. We are not getting the results on the pitch that would be fair from the amount spent on players. But at least we can see that our figures are similar to other clubs… but they couldn’t be if Mike Ashley was taking money out of the club.

embarrassed – if you pardon my language you know sweet FA about accounting.

Think I posted on here about 3-4 years ago about accounting by external auditors.
Auditors do not in the first instance look for fraud – posted about that as well.

Big auditting companies make errors and miss fraud – posted about that as well.

A skilled company finance director will whoop the arse of any young buck auditor by creative accounting.

If the Toon have been fiddling their taxes – the accounts therefore have to have been doctored. Note -they HAVE to have been doctored.

Spent some of my life involved with investigating fraud, I would get lost in trying to examine Tubbs accounts – only specialised forensic accountants would do it properly.

Embarrassed – not sure I get your point. Turnover is just the level of income, it doesn’t factor in any outgoings.
We earned £20m more than Leicester and £30m more than Southampton.
We spent less than both of them on player wages (marginally) and player transfers (materially). These two are the bulk of any club’s expenditure.
We are getting a fair result for the amount we spend on new players, it’s just that the amount we’re spending is way below our competitors. And Ashley took an eight figure sum out last season against his existing lending.

I’m not happy with bruce being appointed, no doubt this will wind people up aswell but didn’t colback play for the unwashed, celebrate a goal he scored against us by telling us to shut up……yet was given pretty much a free pass when he signed?

Surely those who accepted colback at the time and there were plenty of you, they shouldn’t have issues with bruce because he managed the unwashed and celebrated goals against us.

Mister Tuff. I agree with you about Auditors and fraud and company directors, however Grant Thornton are one of the top five auditors in the UK. Mash Holdings also includes Sports Direct. You can’t just assume that Mike Ashley can fiddle his way out of paying due tax on anything.

Auditors do not look for fraud, but if they see something incorrect they will not sign the accounts off.

HMRC are very interested in fraud, especially VAT fraud.

I understand there is a wider fraud case in play around player/agent fees but in order to state that Mike Ashley is doctoring accounts you need to provide evidence. If you can, send a letter to HMRC with that evidence and we will rid ourselves of Mike Ashley.
