The Shields Gazette are reporting that former Italy manager Roberto Donadoni enquired about the vacant Newcastle position but was turned away due to his lack of Premiership experience.
This is what Ross Gregory writes in his report:
The AC Milan legend has been out of work since leaving Bologna last year, and had thrown his hat into the ring to replace Rafa Benitez in the St James’s Park dugout.
However, Donadoni was discounted by chief executive Lee Charnley because he doesn’t have any experience of English football.
So reports Tuesday by Mark Douglas of the Chronicle stating that Newcastle were only interested in managers with up to date Premier League experience was accurate.
Though Steve Bruce has been out of the Premier League since Hull City were relegated in 2015, we suppose he does have a lot of experience in England.
To be fair, Roberto Donadoni has not had much success at either club or international level. He was appointed manager of the Italian National Team after their World Cup victory in 2006 replacing Marcello Lippi. He led them into the 2008 Euro’s but Italy had a disappointing tournament and Donadoni was sacked.
At club level, the biggest club he has managed is Napoli but only lasted for seven months after poor results. His most recent positions have been at Parma and Bologna.
At Parma, he was the victim of a club that went into bankruptcy which ultimately ended a decent three-year spell at the club.
His last position was with Bologna where he managed from 2015 to 2018. His record of 1.13 points per match with a 30% winning percentage was poor to say the least.

Comment #1Our toon it’s got nothing to do with him managing Sunderland before, it’s all to do with him being a below average manager, he is no better than McLaren, look how that worked out

Comment #6Forget the Mackem link, he’s an awful manager.
But the worst thing is he claims to be a Geordie and yet will take the job despite it being against the will of the vast majority of geordies.
He’s supposed to be mates with Shearer, so he knows how bad MA is, and he still wants the job.
Joke appointment by a circus of a club.

Comment #7Rob197, it’s got quite a lot to do with him being a mackem failed manager, a man utd lover, a traitor to the geordie nation, a snake a fraud, a 50 faced fat piece of excrement, a totally championship manager at best, the worst type of person I could imagine being manager of our Great club. Is that enough.

Comment #9If an ‘owner’ was to siphon money out of a club, the best method would surely be to own all the contracted service companies that run the ship, such as; media, property, merchandising, catering, legal etc. Pay over the odds for the prevision of these ‘services’ from the main company accounts then pick up the profits as dividends from the smaller contract companies? Nobody would notice, Just a thought!

Comment #15No toon22, he would have to beat Carver as worst manager in our history. Parsnip wasn’t even in the bottom 5. Parsnip was actually only a mediocre appointment by Ashley compared with some of the others. Where does Bruce fit? Not sure yet. It won’t be great I don’t think. He’s in for a narsty time of it if true.

Unfortunately amateur is someone who does something for the love of it, theres no way anyone at the top of the club loves it at all.

Comment #22Bruce is an affable guy and a fair manager, but I’m surprised he took it on, unless he’s been told a sale is definitely coming down the pipeline and his remit is to keep us up, and he’s been promised decent funds to do it, because no manager can succeed at Newcastle under Mike Ashley, and he must know that. If he signs for longer than a year I’ll be dismayed.

sorry in advance mate . i copied what you put on in the earlier thread . and i may add i agree with what you said …
I put forward a notion as the Blog intends which not unexpectedly the cretin who preens himself (as others say “right all along”) can’t get his a head around or try to reason with a genuine poster – another badge of honour to join the others in the bin.
i also agree that the FROG preens on here and never gets involved in a proper convo . and for him being a cretin well its true …
still cant believe a while back some put on this very blog TOON22 is the blog saviour . the very same blog saviour . wants us to get relegated . TOON22 are you going to any meetings ect regarding newcastle united or are you gonna cry off like always … to say i hate the FROG is a understatement … name and shame frog do it if you have the balls …

Comment #24Well said OP @16. This really is a new low for Ashley. Didn’t think it was possible yet here we are. I wonder how the players are feeling? Lose Rafa and his team, hearing typical nonsense from the press, and they know the supporters have had it. China might not be a bad place to be for a while.

Comment #26The whole lot of them have to be hammered.
I couldn’t care less whether it was carver or Zidane. Makes no difference. We’re f****d.
But then they go and get a mackem lover. Now it does make a difference. No proper geordie would have picked him.
I’m not gannin back simple as that. Been going since 1973.got two season tickets. I hate mackems and I mean really despise the c****.
This isn’t wor club now.
I hope they lose now until its back to normal. Infiltrated by mackem lovers. Who’d have ever thought it. I hope they lose every game until the mackems are chased out. Scum

Comment #27Once this Bruce appointment is confirmed, Nufc will be nothing more than a deceased sporting institution assigned to the pages of history.
Even bang average managers wouldn’t touch this club with a barge pole, we’re nothing but a laughing stock. Yet the fans and groups cant/ won’t unite for the greater cause and rid us from the cancerous leach, rather lapping up the rubbish time after time after time with their fingers up their backsides doing squat about any of it. Protests won’t work too many will rush back.

Comment #35Just been looking into my crystal ball
In the new year Ashley sells Longstaff to Man Utd for 50 million plus 20 million add ons if he makes the England squad playing for Man Utd .nailed on btw.
Steve Bruce takes the flack as he’s ex old Trafford stalwart and although Steve will say he didn’t want to loose the player it will look like he has done man U a favour ..Ashley is thinking long term to cream 70 million pounds from Newcastle United ..and then channel those funds into another corner shop.
We really HAVE been CLUBNAPPED.
Bank of Ashley .
To all you people who are going to attend any match this season here’s a message for you
It’s not Newcastle United anymore ..we ceased to exist when Ashley bought us ..We are Ashley FC.
No cup runs at all.
And 17th position will suffice .
If Steve Bruce takes this job he is immediately in cahoots with Ashley and will tow the party line
Lie to the supporters.
We have had enough of that .
Boycott …PLEASE !

Comment #36We’re going to pay a 5M pound release clause to get Bruce? Or is that bollocks as well? NUFC.com are reporting a meeting between the club and Bruce yesterday followed by Bruce requesting release from his current 12 month contract with Sheffield. Also claim he will be in charge of us when we leave for China. Possibly he should just stay there?

Comment #37Less that 28 days of the transfer window left
At best a manager who nobody wants
Only 2 strikers at the club, one that’s seems not to be good enough for the prem. The other hasn’t played much
Our current top scorer is a CB
And an owner who won’t spend money
It’s going to be fun next season

Comment #39There is undoubtedly a lot of mackem percentage in the “support Bruce” vote because no real Toon fan would entertain an ex-mackem manager, who swerved us in the past and who has a pretty awful managerial record and who succeeds the best manager we had since SBR simply because the money’s right and to hell with winning anything, in a million years.
Don’t believe the “real toon fans” who say we well “I support the team not the regime” and “give him a chance” etc because its all pr and mackem baiting.
There is no way any genuine Mag supporter should get behind this facade manager appointment it’s a direct insult to you, one and all. Its Ashley prodding you in the chest and saying “you’re going to take it like you always do, now roll over sonny so I can get that money out of your pockets”.
If anything was a signal for outright boycott of all things Ashley it’s this – what on earth more do you need to tell you that you are being robbed and ridiculed without mercy? How much more could you possibly be insulted?
