Report – Former Italian National Team Manager Turned Away By Newcastle

The Shields Gazette are reporting that former Italy manager Roberto Donadoni enquired about the vacant Newcastle position but was turned away due to his lack of Premiership experience.

This is what Ross Gregory writes in his report:

The AC Milan legend has been out of work since leaving Bologna last year, and had thrown his hat into the ring to replace Rafa Benitez in the St James’s Park dugout.

However, Donadoni was discounted by chief executive Lee Charnley because he doesn’t have any experience of English football.

So reports Tuesday by Mark Douglas of the Chronicle stating that Newcastle were only interested in managers with up to date Premier League experience was accurate.

Though Steve Bruce has been out of the Premier League since Hull City were relegated in 2015, we suppose he does have a lot of experience in England.

To be fair, Roberto Donadoni has not had much success at either club or international level. He was appointed manager of the Italian National Team after their World Cup victory in 2006 replacing Marcello Lippi. He led them into the 2008 Euro’s but Italy had a disappointing tournament and Donadoni was sacked.

At club level, the biggest club he has managed is Napoli but only lasted for seven months after poor results. His most recent positions have been at Parma and Bologna.

At Parma, he was the victim of a club that went into bankruptcy which ultimately ended a decent three-year spell at the club.

His last position was with Bologna where he managed from 2015 to 2018. His record of 1.13 points per match with a 30% winning percentage was poor to say the least.

This is Ashley knocking nails in the NUFC coffin lid and laughing while he does it.

Welshy me old taffy Wumster I believe it was quite clear your Swansea sympathies were not welcome. Benitez is gone so you are wasting time talking about that one. Stick to your hero pardew. He might manage your place some day.

“Don’t believe the “real toon fans” who say we well “I support the team not the regime” and “give him a chance” etc because its all pr and mackem baiting”

When @roblen joined the blog that was precisely him. He’s slightly deviated in his message to fit in with another group of “real fans” who continue to chase after lost causes and justify bargain basement signings. These types of fans are a massive problem for the fans who take action.

One of the big disappointments here is that the outside world don’t seem to care about whats happening to our club.
We can whine on all we like but its not affecting Ashley and co.

Total Boycott of absolutely everything Ashley related is whats needed.
Ive mentioned this before but someone should publish the list of Ashley’s businesses so they can all be boycotted.

    Froggy.

If you think Pardew has been the worst manager in the club’s history to date, you must have been busy rooting around in the bottom of a pond somewhere when Kinnear, Carver and Maclaren were in charge.

The takeover is obviously off yet the club can’t be bothered to communicate!!

Mike Ashley has declared war on us….

Bruce is worse than carver by far. Carver was assistant to SBR for years, a Geordie and nufc through and through. And still an absolute joke. Bruce is several rungs down from that.

I hate to say this And I’ll probably get loads of abuse but, I would be OK for us to drop down a division for a couple of seasons if it meant getting rid of phatt boy for good.
He is a cancer that is taking great enjoyment at destroying our club.. and City?
I remember when manur used to be in the old 2nd division.. now the championship
Man Citeh were bog awful too but look at them now.
It will take time, effort, and balls to get rid of slime man but we can’t back down now.
HE’S given us 12yrs of hell. Let us give him 12months of CONSTANT, REPETITIVE dog abuse then let’s see how he enjoys that

I don’t know what will happen if we get Steve the Bruce in. Will he even get a transfer budget or a say in it? How many players will we lose before the window closes? Why would Bruce want to leave Sheffield and dive headlong into this? Will we ever hear directly from Ashley again?

At post #42, totally agree and although many will say he let the fans down and was done to him being only interested in lining his own pockets. Rafa had ambition and wanted to be respected by whoever he worked under.

Rafa and the whole world know what MA is like, and anybody interested in coming here and willing getting into bed with MA is only going to be a washed up failed manager. Anybody with ambition are no good for this owner. Even moving from burnley or Bournemouth to nufc is a massive step down IMHO.

The only manager we’ve had under ashley that wasnt a yes man is Keegan, he walked when he realised the clowns that run the club had no interest in making it competitive on the pitch.

All others have been yes men, rafa at least came out to the media from time to time to vent his anger but he still put up with it and followed orders…..that is just a fact!!

Us being relegated won’t rid us of Ashley Sheikh’s Mate because then we’re virtually worthless to him so he has to hang on and bring us back up again to get the TV money and supposedly a price for the club he’s willing to take. That’s part of the endless circular nightmare we’re in.l

Our Toon – Rafa a yes man? I’d say a pro who saw out his contract and told Ashley to shove it when it was offered again. Hardly a yes man. He certainly forced him to revert to Steve Bruce didn’t he?

    Sheikh

All relegation does is add to value he’ll want for the club when he spends to get us back up. Relegation puts us a massive step back from there ever being a sale, more importantly it puts the asking price up even further

This does feel like Groundhog Day now. We get up to hear the club is for sale. That Ashley is leaving. Then we hear about a buyer who has put a bid in. Then we hear things are proceeding nicely. Then we hear nothing. Then the window opens and we do nothing except sell players. Then the window closes and we stagger through another season. Then Ashley says he’s fed up and is putting the club up for sale. Rinse, repeat….

I’m pretty sure the 6m a year had a factor aswell as the support of fans for why he saw out the 3 year contract.

Still he would have asked for things as he said in the media and he never got it so yes professional enough to carry on with the job but still carried on and followed instructions……even though it went against his own beliefs. Glad he told him where to stick it but I’m pretty sure ashley got what he wanted out of rafa and knew fine well he wouldn’t be signing a new deal.

In the end ashley was the only winner!!
