In what has to be absolutely shocking news if true, the Daily Mail is reporting that Sam Allardyce was offered the Newcastle United manager’s job last week.
This is what Matt Lawton is reporting as an exclusive in the Daily Mail:
Newcastle United offered Sam Allardyce a surprise return as manager last week, Sportsmail can reveal, but the former England boss has rejected the opportunity.
Owner Mike Ashley is understood to have identified the 64-year-old as a replacement for Rafa Benitez, not just because of his track record as a Premier League manager but because he would not cost any money in compensation.
Sources close to the club say Allardyce, who has been out of work since leaving Everton in May last year, was presented with an offer after talks between senior figures at St James’ Park and his representatives last weekend.
But there was an issue over the club’s recruitment policy and a concern that Allardyce would have little if any say over signings. As a consequence talks collapsed and Newcastle now appear focused on recruiting Steve Bruce from Sheffield Wednesday.
We are absolutely astounded at the depths this club has plummeted.
With all due respect to Sam Allardyce, but to fail to secure Rafa Benitez and then go after Sam Allardyce is just beyond belief. To top it off, Ashley couldn’t even get Allardyce to make a return to Newcastle due to his ridiculous conditions.
Sam Allardyce– Wait here. We’re up by one, you’re no longer needed
It is the same old story. What manager would work under these conditions? Rafa Benitez must have really loved the fans to have endured three years of tribulation under this lot.
It’s as if Mike Ashley asked himself who can I hire that would most upset the fans. Next, we’ll be hearing that Alan Pardew was offered a shock return to St James Park. It’s as if he does this on purpose and that is what is most infuriating.
You could also take into consideration the contentious relationship between Rafa and Sam and just imagine Ashley conjuring up a way to get two retributions for the price of one.
Not even Sam Allardyce, who only lasted for just half a season under Ashley in 2007-08, thought he would be a candidate for this position again.
This is what Big Sam had to say to talkSPORT the day after the club announced Rafa’s departure:
“I think we all know the pitfalls of the Newcastle job but you don’t turn it down if it’s offered, if you have any ambition.
“I left Bolton to go to the next level. There has been a lack of real success for many, many years.
“The fans have turned to be more patient – they realise what the club has become.
“It was all about winning a cup competition or Europe when I was there.”
When asked if he thought he would be offered the position, Sam said this:
“I don’t think so. In my time, I was between Freddy Shepherd and Mike taking it. Alan Shearer and Kevin Keegan have gone back and not done as well as expected. It’s all hypothetical – I won’t be offered it.”
Not only did Allardyce not think he would be offered it but he said “you don’t turn it down if it’s offered, if you have any ambition.”
Sam Allardyce, who worked for Ashley, couldn’t even fathom how terrible of a job this has become under this owner. Not until he was face to face with him again.

Comment #81That bloody submit bar! Hippo Heed ffs. And possibly Bruce kb’d the offer. Cringe worthy.
Which two managers would you deffo not want? He’s taking the piss. He’s seeing how far he can push before we strike back. He’s laughing at us. He wants to leave us in such a state and he’s doing just that. Why else would he ask these two plonka’s to take over? It’s just pure hatred.
I really do hope Bruce has more about him than to take the job. He’s not wanted here. He must know that? His son has been testing the water for him. Checking social media. He must have got the message by now.
We don’t want you.
You can’t work under these conditions because you’re shit under the best conditions. Move away from the offer. Stay a Sheff Wed. Take them up if you’re so good.
Where was I? No Rafa, no gaffer, Perez and Rondon gone. No strikers, no incoming players at all. Relegation before we begin unless something happens soon
Van Brockenhurst was the best offer he’s had and he turned him down. He’s deliberately trying to damage us beyond repair before he leaves us. He wants out and wants to leave us ruined. He’s a sick puppy for sure.

Comment #82i firmly believe there’s a buyer still in play and Ashley’s playing hard ball with the add on’s he wants or he’s or moving the goalposts at the last minute just as he did with Staveley , if he playing games with another prospective buyer it’s a massive gamble with our premiership status and the value of his asset ,
just maybe he’s met his match and they wont roll over to his demands, either way its the fans who are the loser till it’s decided one way or the other

How does the suggestion Bruce or Allardyce might get the job distract our anger away? Surely it is just another thing adding to the anger?

Comment #84Sorry if this posted by someone earlier but saw some context for Nolan’s sucking up to Ashley on twitter (@NUFC360). Dailymail article on Sam Allardyce rejecting NUFC offer contains this nugget:
“It is understood that Allardyce would have brought in former Newcastle midfielder Kevin Nolan as his assistant.”
Explains a lot! A lad I really respected in his time as a player had just thought he’d landed a job. It’s weird now having to have more respect now for Allardyce than Nolan!

Comment #86I think the other thing that will make us a more attractive investment that the Chelsea is the stadia too.
while we moan about the state of st James of late due to neglect is is still an iconic ground and with reasonable investment can be sorted out and somehow increased .
Whereas with Chelsea and there green with envy fans , who to be honest have gates around Sunderland in epl due to capacity and at times apathy will require 800 million plus to build what they are planning to keep up with arsenal and Tottenham, something which even ambramovich seems unwilling to do these days.
and whereas anything less than champions league at Stamford bridge is looked on as failure new owners here i think would get a longer honeymoon period as long as progress was being made

If them not rolling over to his demands is him meeting his match, isn’t that every alleged takeover attempt? I would think he probably felt he won last winter, and the winter before. He didn’t bend to their terms and the club stayed up.
At the minute I do potentially feel, for possibly the first time, he isn’t in the driving seat in the negotiations. The longer he holds out for his terms the more likely the clubs value is to fall. Especially if we continue in this void with no manager, coaches or signings. This would continue to strengthen a buyers position and may force Ashley to concede. We know he is stubborn, but exactly how stubborn is he?
Ashley and Charnley must realise the longer it drags on, for them to walkaway, leaves them negotiating for players in a very weak position as well.
We go down, that 350 probably turns into 100-150 max.
He hates us, but he doesn’t want his investment to collapse, and even by his standards we are on the brink right now.

Comment #89Interesting to see that so many believe this story that Allardyce has rejected an offer.
As with the Bruce approach, take this story with a pinch of salt.
It’s not just fat Ash and KBA that are in the business of selling fake news to keep certain agendas going.
Take it all with a pinch of salt, whether it’s takeover news, player or manager… Don’t believe it until it happens.
In the mean time take a logical approach to the news reported.

It’s been mentioned on here (sorry i forget who) that Ashley is known for this tactic in the business world and pulls It every time…..he works with buyer/ sellers on the deal and then just when everything is lined up and ready to be signed off …he walks away and asks for more of he threatens to pull the plug .
You would hope if bzg have put this much work in and the only reason holding things/ blocking a deal is Ashley being greedy and pig headed then they would also threaten to reveal what he is doing to the wider business community in order to protect their reputation

I’ve lost all hope – worst situation in my lifetime as a toon fan and I remember standing in Goldstone ground on a weds night getting beaten off Brighton thinking league 2 on the way .. . Yup it’s worse than that
Well we’ll have the derby to look forward to in a couple of years – two terrible teams arguing who is the best of the worst scraping round for news of new owners who’ll being back EPL to us

I think BZG coming out and saying that would only be confirmation for the fans. Of he is known in the business world already for doing this, it would be hard to imagine any serious buyer doesn’t know this, or didn’t find it out when doing some research prior to opening discussions.

Comment #99Pretty clear then no takeover Sam Allardyce or Steve Bruce would not be who an ambitious owner would be bringing onboard. Was all B.S. same as it ever was. Here’s the song for today then, it’s perfect:
– the title of the song itwas we’re hoping will happen with an exciting new owner and takeover
– the name of the band is all we and the media have become under Bishop’s never ending PR campaign
– the chorus of the song is what actually happens to us under Ashley

Comment #103The papers will just keep on printing, dropping stories based on unknown sources, over and over and we will all just keep on clicking.
The papers have everything to gain from winding up the fans by continuously spouting rubbish and it all just goes round and round and round.
Ask yourself why it is you choose to believe some of the news but not all of it. Just like the Bruce approach, this story is all part of the game…
The frog is right to say,
“I wonder who he will pretend to sell us to next time” in reference to MA.
But don’t lose sight of one very big cog in the curcus machine.
Ask yourself,
I wonder who they have lined up for their NUFC manager stories next week?

Comment #106Well Allardyce is on talksport this morning so he will no doubt say something. I think he was approached and until BZG buy the club or anyone else it’s up to Ashley and Penfold to appoint a manager.
One day Ashley and co will be gone. If it’s not this season then it will be another season. Then I can start caring again.

The get of wor club stuff will literally fall on daf ears as i will very much doubt as things stand any of the three wise monkeys will show up for the first game .
And while it sounds loud n clear to us who understand it others watching will just hear your normal epl crowd and once the sky sound engineers have tinkered with mic levels it will be strangely drowned out by 3000 local students who claim to be arsenal support up on k2 (funny how that always happens)
so block on block of empty seats quite rightly will send a much more poignant message to all that enough is enough .

Comment #113Could Ashley be winding down Newcastle United
He knows the fans hate him and want him out so his revenge is to wind the club down and still get his money yet leaving us in the shit like the Mackems
ie- Takes his 100million for TV from season just gone sell our assets- LeJuene, Schar, Longstaff, Dubravka, Ritchie and with the sale of Perez for £30 million makes another £100 million plus the coming seasons TV money
Makes £300 million and takes the first seasons parachute paymentvmust make the 350 he wants then sell for £50 million and he has got his money and revenge,
