Report – Steve Bruce Would Cost Newcastle £5m

The Chronicle has just put out a report on information found in the Times that claim Sheffield Wednesday would require £5m in compensation if he were to leave.

This is part of what is being reported:

Bruce is now Newcastle’s choice to succeed Rafa Benítez. The 58-year-old returned to management in February when he took over at Wednesday and it is understood that a compensation clause of more than £5 million was included in his contract.

The report also confirms the news earlier that Steve Bruce has requested permission to speak to Newcastle.

The Times is reporting that Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri is reluctant to let Steve Bruce leave for talks with Newcastle.

If this report is true, you would have to believe that Steve Bruce would be unlikely to get the job. We can’t see Mike Ashley spending £5m on a manager when so many are available for nothing.

There were reports yesterday that the fee was only £1m which would have been a bit more palatable for Ashley.

Steve Bruce– stupid compensation fee

With the squad about to leave for China to begin their preseason tour in a couple of days, the club appear to be no closer to finding a successor to Rafa Benitez.

They have had since May 16th to at least get exploratory irons in the fire as Rafa Benitez indicated he would not return back then.

They have failed to do so and we would not be surprised if they are completely taken aback by the amount of Bruce’s compensation fee.

If Steve Bruce does not become the next manager, who will it be?

Taking into account the club’s apparent thought process, it’s looking likely to be someone like David Moyes, Garry Monk, Martin O’Neill, or Tim Sherwood.

Or it could be Neil Redfearn or Ben Dawson who are almost certain to take the team to China on Saturday. There is no way Lee Charnley will accomplish his task of getting a manager in place by then.

How he still has a job after all of his pitfalls is truly scary.

You can draw a line through Bruce’s name. It is frightening to think who must be next on the list of potential replacements.

When you are dreaming of Martinez struggling in his 2nd season, but in reality, a Mick McCarthy figure will be walking up to the hallowed dugout next season.

If Brucie takes the job we absolutely need to be harsh on him. F?ck this guy like he turned his nose up at us managed the enemy and now wants to possibly manage us. It’s all for money he doesnt care about Newcastle nearly as much as he should. Just because hes from the area, now hes using our situation to get a higher paying job out of us.

He surely know knows he shouldn’t be taking the job yet hes gonna do it anyways. The Man is about money not nufc. If he was decent or cared hed never touch the job just like the myriad of guys who have turned it down already.

Darren Gough claimed he sa the email of the agreed price for the club 8 months ago, he also says since then MA has continually raised the price were it is now 40/50 million more, he says that’s what Mike is doing, playing Hardball, or the takeover would have happened long ago, just watched the video clip.

Betty #9….. BZG will never in a million years expose Ashley they will come out and say nice things about him. Because if they have ANY interest in buying the club over the next few years pîssing off the guy you’re trying to buy it from is very stupid. ALSO Ashley was exposed a few years back in the court case and it did nothing.

Ultimately people dont care they only want the best they can get, especially outsiders like other clubs, fans, sports enthusiasts, etc… WE are the only ones who care that’s why it’s up to US nufc fans to make a stand, if hes ever gonna be got rid of, WE are the only ones who will do it through BOYCOTTING.

Not sure why people are saying the PL need to investigate Ashleys running of the club.

    1: He barely gets involved
2: Has stated the club needs to be run responsibly and stand on it’s own two feet financially
3: Has loaned the club 130 million

On paper that seems reasonable however the reality is that he is a case study in how not to run a football club. He has made a complete and utter mess of running the toon, falling into the trap of thinking that the stack ‘em high, sell ‘em cheap principles which made his Sports Direct empire so profitable could also work at a football club.
He’s sucked all joy and passion from the club as we go from relegation to relegation with a few lower mid table finishes in-between, bizarre appointments made in both boardroom and dug-out, all without a whisper of explanation from the resolutely silent Ashley.
We’ll be relegated again this season for sure but that is not something the PL will be bothered to look at.

The most frightening thing about Newcastle now is that few of us fans even seem to care. For that, Ashley should hang his head.

He recently topped the list of worst premier league football owners by a long way but frankly I don’t think he gives a monkeys either way

Not backing this regime but without knowing the full facts it’s hard to have other thing other than contempt for Ashley and blaming him for no sale and for choice in manager.

If it was any other club and I didn’t have the attachment I do with the toon I’d have a different opinion though. I dont know anything about BZG other than they failed to prove any kind of funds for liverpool in what looked like nothing short of a publicity stunt.

On bruce as manager, its shocking to say the least but when the previous manager has reported told young guys like arteta and Vieira to stay well clear it’s hardly surprising we are scrapping the shite barrel.

That’s me trying to be balanced

ToonRich “Read a good article last night re: the LMA should be standing up for us, MA has disrespected one of the biggest names in the LMA (Rafa)…”

Think that was mine, fella, so appreciate the compliment.

I stand by it, too. The LMA are a union, to all intents and purposes. If the FA and PL are unwilling to do anything about this, the LMA should at least be backing one of their leading lights in Rafa and getting the message out that Ashley and his cronies are bad employers and should be avoided at all costs.

They should also let it be known that anyone who does take up an offer from Ashley is a ‘scab’ (for want of a better word) and has crossed their metaphorical picket line.

If a coach like Rafa with his decorations, gongs and history can be treated so poorly, where does it leave its more junior members? They should be drawing a line in the sand and saying ‘enough’, on behalf of their members.

    Few things

    1) If there’s a 5 million release clause for Bruce then he isn’t coming. Fatman wants a freebie.

    2) No way the hippo was approached. There’s not been a sniff of him being in contention and his departure from the club was acrimonious. He’s on the wind up, remember how he tried to wind us up when he managed to rally the unwashed down the road to relegate us? Aye, whatever Sam..

    3) The only time to get scared is when someone, (Peter Graves), spots Alan Pardew on a train from London to Newcastle cos he’s the man who ticks all the boxes for Ashley; spineless and free. He also has more neck than a giraffe and would happily stand and soak up abuse from the crowds for his money.

    4) There’s too much activity going on to call the takeover dead. If it were, BZG would have stated it. They’d not sit quiet. They’d probably not slag Ashley off but the news would be out by now…though I’m sure Graves, Douglas and Ryder would probably deny it until it came out of their mouths.

It’s almost like the journos are in the editorial equivalent of an arms race.

One says ‘Bruce is favourite to sign’

The next says ‘Bruce was contacted last week’

The next says ‘Bruce has asked Shef Weds for permission to talk’

The latest says ‘Bruce will sign by the weekend’.

They’re progressing the narrative themselves, without any quotes or evidence to back it up. It’s like they’re just looking for the most sensational iteration of the next story, when all we actually know is Bruce’s son started following NUFC on social media then the bookies shortened their odds.

Also, if Bruce doesn’t have permission to talk to NUFC yet, how can we have been talking to him since last week?

Not saying it won’t happen, just that the press are having a field day with it, footy guys trying to keep the cricket / tennis / cycling guys off the back pages maybe?

If the club wanted a manager, any manager, they’d have had one hired by now. Even if you were to believe they didn’t know Rafa would be off at the end of June, (which they did), there would have been someone brought in.

It’s a bit like leaving a job, you know when you get to your last week of notice and you just don’t really give a f**k anymore? That’s Ashley. He doesn’t want to own us anymore.

Sadly, he also doesn’t want to leave without being entitled to a piece of us.

I can’t see the LMA getting involved, after all Rafa walked at his contract end. It was his decision not to extend based on his experiences in the last 3 and a half years.

It should be the premier league, or at least the television companies here and worldwide demanding that their sponsorship money is spent by all clubs to ensure the best possible players and best possible entertainment.

It certainly looks like game over for a takeover.

The only way that might not be the case is if Ashley and BZG (or other potential buyers) have agreed to get a manager in place so at least we aren’t so far behind come the seasons start, however they would be misleading the manager that come in from the off. It’s typical NUFC under Ashley, an omnishambles.

I cant see that scenario being true.

    Bruce a geordie hero WTF!!

5M and then some (staff etc) for someone who ranks somewhere between McLaren and Kinnear. Why would the tightest owner ever sanction that, even if he knows nothing about football.

That 5M and the 150M he lost on Debenhams, imagine who Rafa could have got.

Who the hell is going to want to play for Bruce?

This is as stupid as when Charnley picked McLaren.

Why would Bruce come when he knows how disappointed people are.

If this goes through I am done. B—ks to fairweather, I’ve had 50 years!

Rafa to MA ” what is your ambition for the club”

Bruce to MA ” whatever you say boss, 16th place not a problem”
