The Sun as well as the Mirror are reporting that Manchester United have been discouraged by the reported £50m valuation Newcastle have for local lad Sean Longstaff.
Both reports are claiming that Manchester United will now look elsewhere as Newcastle seem to have held firm in their stance on keeping Longstaff at the club.
These reports come in conjunction with earlier reporting by Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol that Newcastle are not interested in selling their prized youngster.
Mike McGrath of the Sun writes in his report:
But United have been put off midfielder Longstaff.
Newcastle want £50m for a player who has only nine Premier League appearances to his name for them.
United will pay £20m and thought a deal would be done.
But they were left stunned when given the valuation and will now look elsewhere.
Longstaff, 21, was also left shocked by the figure, which effectively prices him out of a dream move to Old Trafford.
This is consoling news, if true, that Manchester United “will now look elsewhere”. In fact, it is the exact stance we would expect of the nineteenth richest club in the world with a homegrown talent like Longstaff. Why can’t they conduct their business like this all the time?
Sean Longstaff– may be the only source of hope at the club (other than Fabian of course)
The Sun is not the only news outlet reporting this information which has to lend a little bit more credence to the story.
The Mirror is also backing the claim that Manchester United will walk away from their pursuit of Longstaff.
David McDonnell of the Mirror writes the following:
Manchester United have been quoted a staggering FIFTY million pound fee to sign Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff.
They are ready to walk away from a potential deal for the midfielder, believing the Magpies have ramped up their asking price simply because of the Old Trafford giants’ profile and spending power.
Head of corporate development Matt Judge, who negotiates transfers, is understood to have spoken to Lee Charnley, Newcastle’s managing director, about Longstaff.
The Reds believe the 21-year-old is worth £18m-20m — nothing like his club’s valuation in what the Old Trafford club consider an already-inflated market.
This is again reassuring news, if true. And if Lee Charnley has located his spine and kept Sean Longstaff at the club then he will have finally done something worthy of mention in his job.
The reporting is inaccurate, however, in its claim that Newcastle have “ramped up their asking price” due to Manchester United’s profile. If anything, it is due to the lad’s potential and bond to the area.
Or for the cynical among us, to get twice that amount next year after the lad takes the league by the horns.
There is even a bit more corroboration that Manchester United are at least disgruntled that they haven’t been able to poach Sean Longstaff as easily as they figured.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had some recent comments about patience and overpaying that may have been a reference to his club’s hounding of Wor Sean.
This is what the Norwegian said:
“We’re still in the market looking to do some business but we’re patient, we’re Manchester United, we don’t have to sell or overpay.
“You have to have the right players at the right price. If you look at the squad we’ve got there are many good players.”
We cannot stress enough how important it is to keep Sean Longstaff at Newcastle United. In order of priority, it lies second only to getting shot of owner Mike Ashley. It may be a distant second, but it is still imperative to keep him home.

Sunday evening 19:00 hrs ..or 7 of the clock in old money ..Grab a doll..make a doll…stick Ashleys name on it ..paste a cut out of his face on it if you like , I’m sure you will be creative and come up with some great ideas ..
The countdown is from now and at the time afore mentioned , Sunday evening , stick the Ashley effigy with pins, razors, toothpicks, cover the little/big fat twat in tomato sauce, stamp on him , don’t forget the pins in the head and the torso ..just make sure he’s not moving when your finished with him .
Remember, Official !

Comment #5If I was Longstaff I would want to leave too. Future plans? 2019 relegation battle, 2020 relegation battle if still in the Prem and on and on and on. A club that lets a manager of credibility go based on his ambition to do well for the club, invest and buy good players to get us looking upwards in the league. Instead happy to compensate SWFC £5m if the rumours are true, for Steve Bruce…good one. Allowing the two top scorers of 2018 to leave, one for a large sum, but with no chance of reinvestment in a player of equal or better ability and return. The squad is weaker than last season, physically. But mentally? How many of these 1st team players will feel disheartened, uninspired, unmotivated? Who can press on and perform better than they did last season?

Comment #11I’m totally gutted as a fan, the clubs no longer a football institution and now just a part of the Ashley conglomerate.
He’s literally sucked the life and soul out of the club and now we have the shell that’s left.
My boys just over 1 now and I really hope that when he’s older I can take him to SJP and show him a real team playing for the city and with ambition.
In reality we are going nowhere but down, fans fighting each other, all in camps of debating on boycott or support the team but not the regime.
Personally me I won’t be going back, 2 tickets have now passed to another set of fans.
I’m sick, disheartened and totally ##ucked off with Ashley’s vision on the club.
As I’ve said previously the fat pie eating rotund cabbage won’t be alive forever so one day he will eventually be gone and I really hope that once he goes the fans and city can resurrect this once greet club.

Comment #12If they are prepared to spend £50m on a relatively untried full back then the same for Longstaff is a fair asking price.
The club did the right thing although I doubt if it’s out of any loyalty to the fans.

Comment #21I’ve been to St Jameses twice under Ashley, traveling over 40 000 km’s to do it. I won’t do it again until he’s gone. I’ve never bought anything from SD or any of his other shops and never will. I support a boycott, but acutely recognize it will be others making the sacrifice on all our behalf’s.
I will fully support Steve Bruce and the lads, of course. You have the football side and the business side, and you don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Mike Ashley must go, but it’s still my club and my team. Only team I have and will ever want.

Comment #25If he’s not worth 50M then why do they want him.
To be a 20M reserve.
They have to put Longstaff on an improved contract. If not I would not kick another ball for the club if I was him. The injury in the West Ham game could have been serious. If that happens you’ll have no one interested in you.
The lad must get himself onto the best deal possible while the opportunity is there.

What is the plan of the owner going forward. What have you been told about transfer budgets and increasing the wage bill.

You say that as ‘BZG have previous so if the PL claim they’ve not received anything when BZG say they’ve submitted the paperwork then they are clearly lying’? Ashley is the one who has ‘previous’, found to be a liar by a formal tribunal – remember? Or do you choose not to?
As the EPL would be highly unlikely to discuss any application, I am puzzled and wonder how you know that the EPL have said it’s not received anything from BZG?
There’s a difference between fact and media speculation and I’m to go with BZG until we hear something to the contrary from an official source.

Comment #38And no, no talk, no gossip no nothing. It’s been the worst 3 weeks in my NUFC life. Very pee’d off to say the least, blame is entirely on the fat slug. 3 buyers? All have to prove proof of funds prior to due diligence. Heads of terms signed and agreed. Then the fat slug moves the goalposts as he does every time. I’ll support the club from afar, will watch the games via streams so he gets no revenue from me. Gutted about the whole thing.

Don’t be the fall guy for a fcuking Cockney piece of shite, Newcastle United is not a sleeping princess and your no Prince Charming, this is not a fairy tale where you come and save the princess, this is a harrowing tale of a prince that gets killed.
