The Sun as well as the Mirror are reporting that Manchester United have been discouraged by the reported £50m valuation Newcastle have for local lad Sean Longstaff.
Both reports are claiming that Manchester United will now look elsewhere as Newcastle seem to have held firm in their stance on keeping Longstaff at the club.
These reports come in conjunction with earlier reporting by Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol that Newcastle are not interested in selling their prized youngster.
Mike McGrath of the Sun writes in his report:
But United have been put off midfielder Longstaff.
Newcastle want £50m for a player who has only nine Premier League appearances to his name for them.
United will pay £20m and thought a deal would be done.
But they were left stunned when given the valuation and will now look elsewhere.
Longstaff, 21, was also left shocked by the figure, which effectively prices him out of a dream move to Old Trafford.
This is consoling news, if true, that Manchester United “will now look elsewhere”. In fact, it is the exact stance we would expect of the nineteenth richest club in the world with a homegrown talent like Longstaff. Why can’t they conduct their business like this all the time?
Sean Longstaff– may be the only source of hope at the club (other than Fabian of course)
The Sun is not the only news outlet reporting this information which has to lend a little bit more credence to the story.
The Mirror is also backing the claim that Manchester United will walk away from their pursuit of Longstaff.
David McDonnell of the Mirror writes the following:
Manchester United have been quoted a staggering FIFTY million pound fee to sign Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff.
They are ready to walk away from a potential deal for the midfielder, believing the Magpies have ramped up their asking price simply because of the Old Trafford giants’ profile and spending power.
Head of corporate development Matt Judge, who negotiates transfers, is understood to have spoken to Lee Charnley, Newcastle’s managing director, about Longstaff.
The Reds believe the 21-year-old is worth £18m-20m — nothing like his club’s valuation in what the Old Trafford club consider an already-inflated market.
This is again reassuring news, if true. And if Lee Charnley has located his spine and kept Sean Longstaff at the club then he will have finally done something worthy of mention in his job.
The reporting is inaccurate, however, in its claim that Newcastle have “ramped up their asking price” due to Manchester United’s profile. If anything, it is due to the lad’s potential and bond to the area.
Or for the cynical among us, to get twice that amount next year after the lad takes the league by the horns.
There is even a bit more corroboration that Manchester United are at least disgruntled that they haven’t been able to poach Sean Longstaff as easily as they figured.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had some recent comments about patience and overpaying that may have been a reference to his club’s hounding of Wor Sean.
This is what the Norwegian said:
“We’re still in the market looking to do some business but we’re patient, we’re Manchester United, we don’t have to sell or overpay.
“You have to have the right players at the right price. If you look at the squad we’ve got there are many good players.”
We cannot stress enough how important it is to keep Sean Longstaff at Newcastle United. In order of priority, it lies second only to getting shot of owner Mike Ashley. It may be a distant second, but it is still imperative to keep him home.

Comment #89It’s amazing how Bill’s son is back can appear and sound off a load of his hate filled bile but ask him a simple question like ”do you think Ashley is doing a good job” and he disappears. He won’t answer because he has got no integrity, he won’t say no because he can’t bring himself to do it, he can’t say yes because he knows it’s not true. I feel vindicated from the accusations of ”Joe Sophistication” for calling him out, he returned simply to ram the sale down our throats, now the wheels have fallen off we’re seeing the real Bills son.

Comment #91The mist is starting to clear now and the bigger picture is emerging Ashley’s big problem this summer was showing Rafa the door with as little damage limitation as possible. Ashley set out to convince the fans that a buyout was imminent . Ashley was hoping the fans would believe Rafa would sort out a contract with new rich owners, he was hoping fan’s would rush to buy their STs, and once all the Sts had been taken up Ashley would pull the plug on the deal and business as usual, full SJP every home game. Ashley has done the equivalent of smashing open a hornet’s nest with a Baseball bat but this time it looks like fatty is the only one that will get stung. Now Ashley is facing i abig dilema

#nufc confirm their squad for Premier League Asia Trophy – & Sean Longstaff will be heading to China. But Lejeune & Rob Elliot miss out due to respective knee & shoulder injuries, Atsu is still on holiday (& has a hamstring injury) – as is Almiron. Saivet’s still at the AFCON

Comment #106We had Rafa and we let him go. Still trying to get that into my head.
We had Rafa and imagine what he could have done with 60 millions.
They let him go because he wants a player like Rondon and because he wants control.
OMFG will they pay a price.
Unbelievable shortsightedness.

Comment #107It’s usually the youth coaches who discover and develop the gems within their system and they recommend them to the first team coaches and manager/head coach.
It’s then up to the manager/headcoach to give him a chance, traitor Bruce didn’t have any options but to get him into the team due to lack of depth.
Something google doesn’t tell you jib 😉

What bugs me the most is the fact their are managers in fact vacant managers who are miles better than traitor Bruce.
Q Flores I would of expected or someone the players and fans would respect.
But no, Lee thinks traitor Bruce is the man for the job, a man who got sacked last October by Villa after losing 9 games in a row, a man who wanted us to lose against his mackems, a man who wanted a certain tune on if they had won against us, a man who loves to give us fans sly remarks!
Personally I think traitor Bruce will be the first so called geordie to be branded as an official mackem, and rightly so!
