Report – Key Newcastle Signings Lined Up Once New Manager Appointed

Pete Graves of Sky Sports is reporting some good news today for Newcastle fans – the audacity of it!

But seriously, he says that some key signings have already been lined up by Newcastle (presumably Steve Nickson) and once we have a manager in – those players will be signed.

These will be some of the players our Head of Recruitment Steve Nickson has been scouting during the season.

Nickson would have agreed to go after some of these players before Rafa left the club at the end of June, through frustration at the complete lack of ambition of owner Mike Ashley.

Steve Bruce – Newcastle still need to agree with Owls on compensation

Here’s what Pete Graves has tweeted:

In a report Neil put out earlier today Keith Downie of Sky Sports also reported that Newcastle had a few signings already lined up and they were waiting for the new manager coming in.

In 2015 the hierarchy signed players before Steve McClaren was appointed, and he had no say in the matter.

Whether Nickson is waiting specifically for the new manager coming in – we will have to wait to see – but there are now only 26 days left in the summer transfer window.

We also need to get players to leave the club or sent out on loan, who are surplus to requirements.

But it’s good to hear that Steve Nickson, who was very highly regarded by Rafa, has been working away in the background on some transfers; we also have to remember Steve was the one who went to Atlanta in January to help get the deal for Miguel Almiron finally over the line.

The Newcastle squad has been announced for the Premier League Asia Trophy, and they leave tomorrow for China.

It looks like Neil Redfearn and Ben Dawson may have to lead the squad in China.

If we do have some good signings lined up that would be good news, but we need a talented manager (head coach?) in – and we don’t know if Newcastle are willing to pay the £5M release clause for Steve Bruce.

That’s the status at the moment, and it could even fall through if Sheffield Wednesday don’t lower the compensation they want for Bruce.

To pay £5M for a Championship manager to replace the world-class and highly popular Rafa Benitez seems completely daft.

But this is Newcastle United and Ashley is still the owner – so yes – it is daft.

And normal for Mike Ashley.

Comments welcome.

If Calvin Phillips is worth 30m then Perez must be worth 80m. 30m is a steal for a PL experienced number ten who will get 15+ goals if he plays, maybe even 20 as Leicester might play him further forward and he will have quality players to link up with unlike the last 4 seasons. I’m guessing almiron is his replacement. Now just need two strikers and two wingers to complement our one attacking player

After the Steve Bruce links I’d be willing to settle for almost anyone, even McLaren. I wonder if these Fat Bruce and Fat Sam rumours have been planted to make us deleriously happy when Harry Redknapp or Moyes walk through the door. The idea being this will stop us comparing new guy to benitez and instead comparing them to Bruce.

If ashley said they haven’t shown proof of funds then I wouldn’t believe him. The reason why I think BZG are full of BS is that they’ve claimed all the paperwork was submitted. The PL have denied this though

So if new players start arriving, who chose them and why ? They have to be integrated in a team very much moulded by Rafa. They will be players Rafa identified as fitting in with his ideas for the team and how he wanted to play. Another manager might have totally different ideas and struggle to work from Rafa’s blueprint or simply not want to. So that’s pretty idiotic.

However if they aren’t buying from Rafa’s shopping list who is picking them ? Nickson ? Hopefully not Charnley or Barnes who have the collective footballing nous of a blob of silly putty. And what is the footballing vision they’re being bought for ? What kind of team playing what kind of football ? Nobody currrently at Newcastle would have the faintest idea.

If players start arriving I can only assume the prime selection criteria will be either that they’re cheap and nominally fill an empty slot or that they’re cheap and might be sold for a profit later. It’s a bit like making pieces for a jigsaw without having a clue what picture they’re supposed to create when put together. Bruce (or whoever) will have to make the best he can out of that.

Can’t say it exactly inspires confidence.

Although the group has claimed they have agreed a deal with Ashley and are working through the Premier League’s owners and directors’ test, it is understood that process is yet to begin and that only a ‘heads of terms’ has been signed with the United owner.

That’s a snippet from the Chronicle. Add to that the claims made in May that all is agreed and paperwork with PL, and the news of bruce on the brink of being appointed aswell as sky reporting that no one at PL has recieved the paperwork and F&P test is underway tells me they either jumped the gun or weren’t serious to start with

Can’t believe I ever had hope for the takeover. Classic Ashley now leaking the buyer as time wasters, bringing in a mediocre coach, and now trying to cool things down with the ole don’t worry we got transfers lined up!! Don’t worry we’ll spend money! Next in line is a week or 2 before the window shuts there will be leaks of failed bids and we just couldn’t get them over the line. A loan and a one or 2 free/5-12 mil transfers will be brought in last week of the window. This regime is pathetic

It’s interesting that the Chronicle repeated a number of times that Ashley hadn’t received proof of funds from BZG, but when Peter Redding released that statement updating progress of the takeover a few days ago , the question that the Chronicle’s Mark Douglass was asking Peter Redding was,” When Were BZG submitting “fit and proper owners” documents to the FA?. Douglass had to have known proof of funds were in the hands of Ashley’s legal team to ask that question.

Who gives a flying f**k who the manager is or what new players might be coming in. Ashley wins again as we fall into talking about new signings. The only talk should be about takeover and getting rid of Ashley. Nothing else matters. This was a serious takeover, we need to know why it’s stalled. Flush out the truth!
