Report – Newcastle Still Keen On Championship Midfielder

We were first linked with Leeds defensive midfielder Kalvin Phillips along with his teammate Jack Clarke this past May.

Jack Clarke made his big move to Tottenham Hotspur a few weeks ago but has gone back to Leeds on loan for this coming season.

The Mirror have a report out saying that Tottenham are also looking at the defensive midfielder Phillips as well. They also maintain that Newcastle are still keen on the 23 year old.

This is what David Anderson has written regarding Newcastle and Kalvin Phillips:

Newcastle are also keen on the Leeds academy graduate, while Bournemouth and Wolves are understood to have cooled their initial interest.

Leeds remain adamant that any Premier League suitor will have to pay around £30million for Phillips and they are desperate to hang on to the versatile holding midfielder.

Earlier today, it was reported that Newcastle may have some transfer targets lined up from when Rafa was still at the club.

Maybe Kalvin Phillips is one of those players. It seems like he would be a decent replacement if Isaac Hayden were to leave this summer.

Leeds would have to come down quite a bit on their £30m valuation of the player though. We would also have to fight the other Premier League clubs for his signature.

With our current state, it would seem very unlikely that Newcastle could do that if there was genuine interest from the likes of Spurs and Wolves.

Going off Midhat’s WhatsApp messages it looks like the deal is 100% off. If it’s him or not is another story but I’m pretty sure it’s him.

Do I think the Sheikhover will definitely happen? That’s probably stretching it.

Do I think it can still happen? Yes, absolutely.

It’s not over until it’s over. Until Ashley dags himself away from his vomit-filled fireplace for long enough to scream at his friendly Sky ar$ehole mates that Sheikh Khaled has no money (I know) then it can still happen.

Ashley remains the saboteur of this machine we like to call NUFC, he can literally throw his clogs into the gears at any point.

Squeaky bum time until it happens.

Downie thinks there’s some of Rafa’s targets lined up eh?

Even if they were, does it not occur to the ignorant gits running the club into the ground, that they were Rafa’s targets, players vetted and chosen to fit nicely into his jigsaw. The ways these idiots seem to play it is buy some pieces for the jigsaw and hope they’ll fit.

You’ve got to laugh at some the brainless logic on here…

“Who’s the common denominator in the failed sales, Ashley!!”

    Ha, ha, haaaaaaaaaaaaa

Well he would be, he’s the owner of the club.

I was the common denominator when a dozen or more people had bids rejected for my motorhome.

#7 – happens all the time. Even if journo’s feel obligated to only report “facts”, there are enough to go on to call Ashley/Charnley out:

Fact – the club have released NO information to anyone about the alleged takeover
Fact – the club have reneged on PL rules by refusing to hold the requisite number of fans forums
Fact – the club have sold, and not replaced, Perez
Fact – the club have lost, and not replaced, Rondon and Kenedy
Fact – the club have lost, and not replaced, Rafa Benitez and are currently managerless
Fact – the club have lost two assistants/first team coaches and not replaced them
Fact – the club have an unfit-for-purpose corporate structure, have one senior executive and a key influencer isn’t even registered to the FA or PL (Justin Barnes)
Fact – the club are being outspent by PL newcomers yet hiding behind allegations that they cannot somehow “compete”
Fact – the club claim to spend “every penny”, yet Mike Ashley has taken money back from his ridiculous “loan” to perpetuate the lie

I understand the desire for a journalist to stay balanced, plus Luke’s not a NUFC fan so it’s not in his heart, but for fuggs sake is it beyond the realms of possibility to REALLY investigate Lee Charnley, get club insiders off record to get comment? We know more about North Korea than we do about NUFC.
    Fact –

Funny thing is, my parents used to live next door to Steve Bruce’s mam and dad in Daisy Hill. Very nice people by all accounts. I used to get birthday cards off his mother every year until she passed away. His mother is Godmother to my sister and I still don’t want him to get the job!

Why oh why is the word ‘imminent’ used so often by journalists (it is to laugh) when writing of the goings on at NUFC? Takeover is ‘imminent’, sale of Longstaff to MU is ‘imminent’, after the takeover, a top top manager arriving is ‘imminent. (pick a name, there have been so many) and now the signing of Bruce is ‘imminent’. Yeah, and SW want 5 million to do the deal???!!! It’s like AshLIE would be cutting off his nose to spite his face.

Seems that the only thing that is ‘imminent” is AshLIE controlling everything, lock, stock and barrel.

On the first day of the season, I’m am hoping that SJP is so empty that Sky HAVE to show the almost empty ground. I know some will attend….it’s their right to do so, but we need fatso out ASAP.

Oh, and Stardust, I was the same as you last night, mate – convinced the sale was over, certain that Bruce was taking over, absolutely positive that I wouldn’t be able to take my kids to the match next season.

Then Bruce turns up at training at Sheffield Wednesday and you realise that a whole city has been taken in by a huge lie perpetuated and inflicted on us by our ‘own’ press corps, the very same press corps who have the last couple of days been massaging their own egos and ‘supporting’ each other against the vile Geordie hordes who have been taking the p!ss on Twitter.

It’s no wonder, really – they’re all as useless as each other. Double sourced, my ar$e. Unless you count the latest odds as one source and their mates’ Twatter accounts as another.

Donald Trump would have them lined up and shot. Just saying.

Re: couple articles back someone asked a question about buying USA (NBC Sports) premier league subscription and using VPN to avoid Sky (or BT).

If you are doing this thinking that you are protesting Ashley by ditching Sky you are kidding yourself. It is still the same thing. Sky pays the domestic rights that go into the Premier League kitty. NBC pays into the international rights portion that goes to the PL. It gets lumped together and then distributed to the clubs as the “TV money”.

Now if you just want to try getting the USA subscription to save money compared to Sky, fair enough. But as a protest you are not accomplishing anything.

Unfortunately there is no “Newcastle” specific revenue stream to target except for the matchday revenue – basically tickets – and things like kit sales.

The PL gets their TV money for the rights to the League – everyone everywhere would have to stop watching PL football altogether. You would need supporters of all clubs to band together. Not gonna happen.

The only way to deprive Ashley the PL TV money is for the club to not be in the PL.

NewsNow have a quote from Darren Bent saying – Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is “being smart” in looking to appoint an experienced manager as it will help boost their takeover hopes.

And yes Darren was talking about Bruce. It’s beyond laughable that someone can use the word “smart” to describe: losing Rafa; losing Rondon; selling Perez. And apparently MA is now saying he will give the next manager (Bruce!) the 60million budget + Perez 30 million for transfers.

So ‘smart’ to lose the continuity and expertise of Rafa and instead give 90million to a new manager. How ‘smart’ to spend 90 million and still massively increase the risk of relegation.

If, as reported, Bruce left Hull because of lack of investment in players, it’s no wonder that Ashley’s keen on one year rolling contracts. Bruce’ll have been told there’s money for players but if he thinks he’ll have any choice who comes in he’s in for a surprise.

And, he must be mad to even think about joining Ashley’s circus. What would make even think about leaving Sheff Wed? It can only be money for there’s no long term future for him unless he’s happy to manage a relegation and try to get back up under Ashley.

If Ashley and BZG are at a stand off position, we can only hope he sees he’s more to lose than gain. A couple of seasons hence, the club’ll be so far off the pace, the exposure SD and the like’ll be negligible for the ‘quality’ brands he’s bought. Surely common sense says you market quality brands on the back of a quality brand. But no, Ashley won’t invest enough in NUFC to raise its brand image.

There are still folks (not many) who believe Ashley is a willing seller and that every other group that has tried to buy the club over his long tenure was a ‘time-waster’ or ‘tyre-kicker’ or just ‘didn’t have the funds’. Every one. And Ashley is blameless.

There are still folks who believe the world is flat, too ..

Why can’t the writers at the Chron keep hammering home those points? It’s not like AshLIE would give them exclusives. He only talks to Sky, and then only rarely. And the podcasts?!! Have listened to some and most deal in generalizations and pats on the back for finding something out that was reported earlier by another news outlet.

If it falls through because of funds, its not because they don’t have it, its because THE LIAR keeps moving the post. If someone asks 5 pounds for a stick of gum and you tell them to f off, its not you don’t have the money, its that you don’t want to pay over the odds for it. ASHLEYOUT!!
