Sky Sports Reports Bruce Deal Has Been Held Up

Keith Downie of Sky Sports has tweeted the following update on Newcastle’s move for Steve Bruce.

We are really starting to have a lot of respect for Sheffield Wednesday’s owner Dejphon Chansiri. He is absolutely right to hold Mike Ashley’s feet to the fire in regards to any compensation for Steve Bruce and his staff.

The loss of Steve Bruce right now would be a big blow to Sheffield Wednesday. It is refreshing to see an owner who is fighting for the best interest of his club.

The only tool in Chansiri’s arsenal right now is the compensation for Steve Bruce. So he has every right to demand the entire amount and to hold firm for it.

Mike Ashley is in a precarious situation right now as it looks like he is running out of options. That should maybe tell him something. You would think it would dawn on him that if nobody of merit wants to work for him, then maybe he should rethink his ownership methods.

It is due to Mike Ashley’s dwindling selection of candidates that we believe Keith Downie quickly followed up his original tweet with a caveat.

Mike Ashley will probably end up paying the fee as it doesn’t look like he will get Chansiri to budge. To be honest, this is one time we hope Mike Ashley adheres to his rigid stubbornness and refuses to pay the fee.

We feel there are better options like Garry Monk. If we have to scrape the bottom of the barrel, why pay to do it?

It also looks like Mike Ashley was expecting to pay about £1m while Chansiri is holding out for the full £5m for Bruce and his staff. These were the two numbers that have been touted by different media sources and if correct, that would explain the hold up.

We have nothing against Steve Bruce personally but we just don’t think he is the man to push this club forward.

Duncan Alexander is a football statistician and author of the book Outside the Box: A Statistical Journey through the History of Football.

He has tweeted a stat that perfectly sums up why we do not want the deal for Bruce to go through.

    Robleenio mentioned a while ago that an ashley tactic was to walk away at a critical point of the deal, I think that’s were we are now.

    Hahahaha this is hilarious. Let’s make an offer for Bob Bradley while we’re at it. We now can’t afford Steve Bruce! Imagine the massive expense. And we have no money. Just ask Mike and Lee. Look they’ll say as they pull they’re pockets inside out NO money!!! Oh woe is me!!!

    The extreme sadness of it all. No money. Not a penny. No sir. What’s that you say? What about the Perez 30M? No, that’s already gone sadly. We had to have the club trophy case cleaned.

    You couldn’t make this stuff up!

    Shambolic!

    The various Nufc groups should get a twitter campaign going with known celebrity NUFC fans advertising it as ‘don’t work for Ashley’

    This is such a great opportunity to disrupt Ashley, Wise, Carr and Bishops plans.

    Surely if we are to protest in an attempt to get rid of Ashley, we have to be better organised than just sitting back and waiting to see what happens before we do anything!

    All respectable managers, even head coaches, want to see the plan for the club and understand the policies for transfers and investment. The club as it stands today doesn’t have one that is related to building the club and competing. Ashley just wants to horse trade players and stay in the league with minimum investment. Rafa thought he could change this mindset. He was banging his head against the wall. Other managers know this now and don’t want to work in this setup. Doesn’t take a lot of detective work to see this. New owners are the only answer.

    People think its ok after we lose our best manager since Sir Bobby and Keegan,our 2 top strikers.
    But dont panic after all the top targets to replace the GAFFA knock us back.
    It now looks like the Geordie legend that is Steve Bruce may not be coming because he is to expensive.
    Where do we go from here?

    Sheff Wed will be furious. Their season kicks off in 3 weeks. Bit of a rat’s trick by us and Steve Bruce if it does happen, and if it does happen and he get’s a long term deal, we should be livid, not so much with Bruce, because we need a manager, and someone has to do it, but squarely with Ashley, because that would indicate he’s staying, and we are back to business as usual, pre Rafa, and with a vengeance.

    Wynsleep,
    From god knows how many streams back (Just trying to catch up)
    I haven’t clearly forgotten the good things sjh did for Newcastle and even said so.
    i know he brought us to the entertainers and keegan.
    i am not as old as you ,first ever game was brighton home fac (trelford mills) and i still went back to watch from the under the score board watching mavis riley and then the joys of mirandinha (who was pretty average looking back)and gazza . Then season ticket in the east stand in the ardilles era so I have see n both the good times and bad .
    My point was this absolute love in that SJH was the epitome of trust when it came to owning a football club and as a person.
    Not going to bother reposting my comments on his business dealings with Cameron hall developments again but while no one can dispute he was in a parallel universe to Ashley ,at the end of the day he was a businessman who wanted to make money and did very well out of nufc.
    Before I left UK i was mainly in the restaurant scene in London ,Sir Terrance Conran was another who had this love in of being a great man and driving the British restaurant scene .Yet it you asked anyone who worked for him or had the misfortune to be supplying any of his business and were owned money yo will struggle to find anyone with a good word to say about him other than those who simply dined inside his outlets.
    A bit of topic but trying to just illustrate my point that yes he did great things and lifted us to be a great club but it was not a very much rewarded project for the halls

    Well, we’ve spent a lifetime lookin’ for you;
    singles bars and good time head coaches were never true.
    Playin’ a fools game hopin’ to win;
    and tellin’ those sweet lies and losin’ again.
    We was lookin’ for coaches in all the wrong places,
    Lookin’ for coaches in too many faces,
    searchin’ their eyes and lookin’ for traces
    of what we’re dreamin’ of.
    Hopin’ to find a coach and a winner;
    We’ll bless the day we discover
    another coach we kin love.
    And we was alone then, no love in sight;
    and we did ev’rything we could to get through the night
    We’alls lookin’ fer luvvvv.

    Where do we go from there ?
    No self respecting coach should touch the job.
    I said the same before the GAFFA came and gave us hope.
    He may have come for the money,but he lifted the club and the city out of the football doldrums did he not.We had self respect again and held our heads up again.
    Now we have the prospect of a many time failed manager,but he is a Geordie/mackem sort.

    It’s interesting that the Chronicle repeated a number of times that Ashley hadn’t received proof of funds from BZG, but when Peter Redding released that statement updating progress of the takeover a few days ago , the question that the Chronicle’s Mark Douglass was asking Peter Redding was,” When Were BZG submitting “fit and proper owners” documents to the FA?. Douglass had to have known proof of funds were in the hands of Ashley’s legal team to ask that question.

    Now that, dig-n-dig, is a very astute point indeed. If the Chronicle don’t believe that proof of funds were submitted, why was he not asking about that, rather than asking about a stage several in advance of where he’s previously stated they were.

    Good logic, mate

    I initially thought we were nailed on to appoint dodgy Fat Sam, but quite surprised he turned is down.

    This indicates to me that the likes of Moyes, Hughes etc maybe haven’t got the stomach for the grief they would receive.

    Bizarrely enough, Agent Bruce seems a bit delusional if he thinks he can placate the fans because he is a Geordie.

    I reckon, like a few on here, Ashley will stick with Redfearn and Dawson if the trip to China isn’t a disaster, which of course it will be!
