Exclusion Of Promising Youngster Shows Club Has No Foresight

Elias Sorensen was left off of Newcastle’s squad for the Premier League Asia Trophy in what may have been a surprise to many fans.

Despite the squad only have three senior strikers if you include Yoshinori Muto and calling up five youngsters, Sorensen has been left out of the squad and remains training with a depleted U23 squad.

This, to us, seems like a very poor decision barring unknown issues with the youngster.

Sorensen is our brightest prospect and one would think that giving him some time with the first team, especially when his presence is sorely needed, would be a great way to get his season off to a positive start.

Elias Sorensen– club needs to instill confidence in him

Sorensen bagged 20 goals for the reserves last season despite spending two wasted months on an unsuccessful loan spell at Blackpool. He will be looking to build on last year’s excellent progress.

This is an important year for Elias as he will most likely need to go out on loan for the year to get some first-team football under his belt.

The club could have jumpstarted this season’s growth process by involving him in the first team but for whatever reason they just have not done that.

They have given 18-year-old Thomas Allen a chance to train and maybe even see some preseason action with the first team instead of Sorensen.

They have also called up four other players to play with the squad in China. They are defender Owen Bailey, goalkeeper Nathan Harker, midfielder Matty Longstaff, and defender Kelland Watts.

While we do like the inclusion of these players, especially Sean Longstaff’s brother Matty, we just don’t see why Sorensen was excluded unless there are some internal issues going on that we are unaware of.

If there are no issues, then jetting off to China today with just Joselu, Yoshinori Muto, Dwight Gayle, and young Thomas Allen as the strikeforce is extremely underwhelming.

The supporters would have been somewhat excited to see Elias get some preseason action, certainly ahead of Joselu and Gayle. Both of whom may not be here to start the season.

At the end of last season, Elias was asked about his hopes for this season. This is what he said:

“I’m open minded.

“I am just waiting to see what the club want me to do.

“If they want me to go on loan I will happily do that and if they want me to stay I will be happy to do that.

“It is just up to the club what happens now.”

It just seemed like such a logical decision to include the striker in the squad. We are not sure what their decision process was on this one, but it is just another headscratcher by this club.

Been reading twitter this morning, ther seems 2 b a real drive towards these protests, i can def see alot of empty seats at the arsenal game, b a good idea to have people involved in the protest covering every entrance into the ground to do a count of how many actually go in rather than rely on the lie the club will giv out on attendance

The Joselu transfer is still on hold. No manager has been appointed. The club have not made any offers for any player to replace Perez and Rondon. Hayden is still at the club despite his year old wish to be closer to his family.

There’s only one sane explanation for all of these and that is that we are in the middle of negotiations for the sale of the club. The only transfer allowable in this position is the sale of a player if his buy-out clause is met – because the stated amount deposited up front into the bank account simply replaces the player with no resulting change in the value of the club assets. Perez was sold under these conditions.

All of the ‘will he won’t he’ nonsense about Steve Bruce is the product of desperate journos. The club haven’t made any announcement as regards replacing Rafa. Dawson & Redfearn will continue as caretaker managers until the takeover is completed.

I can’t see another plausible explanation. The takeover is IMHO still on.

The trouble is we will always have thousands of Fans like Charlie who will still turn up and Ashley knows this.
We have to find a way to break this circle of deceit that the owner has cast upon the club. And the fans turning out with the same lame excuses doesn’t wash no more.

Neil – If, as you suggest, they are sending him out on loan, what would be the point of taking him to China?

A few days with our first team squad, to send him away to another club?

I think the fact that there are defenders and midfielders going suggests that the coaches think we might need them during the season, and no striker coming through means they are waiting for the manager to arrive before signing one, or even 2 on.

Ashley won’t have decided who goes on the trip, and neither will Charnley. It will be whoever is preparing the team, and maybe even with the recommendation of Rafa.

Surely they can’t all be idiots.

What does that tell you about the running of our club.
He says it himself you dont need to protest i get the message i will leave.
That was 10 years ago the lieing cnut. Thats where the sale lie started.
Because of our protest this whole sale lie started 10 years ago.

Daily Mail is spouting that Villa are in for Dubravka now. This is the usual crap we have to endure as Toon fans. A never ending torrent of players wanting away to “better” clubs. But this has been the worst ever, by a long long way.

Personally, I think this has been so bad that MA is selling the club and I think that his PR have stitched up the Chronic on the way out.

The managers approached have been beyond stupid ideas and have only wound up the fan base.

It’s surprising that no deals (other than Perez which appears to have been a “no option its in his contract” deal) have been completed.

I think the people speculating about negotiations and MA walking off at the last minute have maybe some truth and that includes “OK if you don’t buy xyz then I’m letting Rafa’s contract go” type of poker.

I think the original leak has caused a lot of speculation and our fan base are good for getting worked up about what’s happening (including myself). I imagine both the MA and buyers were not happy with the leak and us being able to consequently spot the formation of Monochrome Holdings etc.

I’m waiting for a press conference.

PS have a look at Lee Ryder’s Twitter Feed. Some of the abuse is quite amusing, but the funniest is when you scroll down you come to an option to see more Tweets which may be offensive or contain offensive language. Weblogs with week old regurgitation of rumours will never be the same again.

PPS If you think MA is going to “wind us down” think again. He has doubled his stake on a gamble which he already admitted was a mistake. I think a £150m profit NOW would be a much better option than messing about with something he “only has a passing interest for”.

I believe that Ashley will complete the sale immediately after the transfer window has closed. It will be his last big FO to the fans.

Well, let him. As soon as the sale is complete the new owners will bring in a top manager. We may struggle until the January window but we will survive and, like the last two years, will come good in the second half of the season. And from then on life will be good.

I’m not sure, but can’t we buy out-of-contract players after the window has closed? There seems to be a few of them hanging around at the moment and that could ease the situation in the short term.

Whether he was played or not, Sorensen should have been taken even if it were just to give him experience kf travelling with the first team. He is most definitely one of our brightest prospects and at 21 with a good and professional attitude is more than able to cope with the step up. Probably Ashley not prepared to stump up the extra few quid for his plane ticket

Funny that because Nufc.com reckon the situation is like when we let JC vandalise the club while waiting for Mclaren to get pumped, it would be just like Churnley to leave TRedfearn?Dawson in charge while waiting for Bruce saying look at me Mike I saved us 5M.

    Emperor MA

Greeting Senator 4iiiis, how goes the running of my Aureus producing club.

    Senator 4iiiis

Your Imperial majesty, the Aureus production goes well but I’m afraid your Gladiators are not happy at the loss of their venerable trainer and there’s dissent amongst the Plebians, even talk of revolution.

    Emperor MA

Revolution, nonsense the people love me, they understand that it’s more important for them to provide the wealth I use to conquer bankrupt run down countries and are happy with the mediocrity of the Gladiators so long as one of them wins occasionally. Besides I have obtained the services of another trainer, one of their own even.

    Senator 4iiiis

Quite so your Majesty, let us prove your point by taking a walk amongst your adoring followers.

    Emperor MA

Of course follow me, I must meet them so they can see me and fawn upon my magnificence.

    Senator 4iiiis

There your Majesty see how they crowd around you and oh dear one of them in his excitement just accidentally stabbed you with a dagger, oh and another and another, in fact they all are doing it.

    Emperor MA

Infamy, infamy they all have it in for me, what even you 4iiiis,

    Senator 4iiiis

Sorry your majesty but they know where I live!

If young players aren’t given the chance to play in competitions such as the China trip when do they get to play, I’d have said it was the perfect time to see if they can fit into the team.

I’ve never understood the reluctance of our club to give the younger players a 1st team chance, even Longstaff’s breakthrough opportunity was a bit of an accidental moment of serendipity.

Munster agree mate Comment 62. If Bruce is a true, honest, proud Geordie he won’t even consider the job. Thereby sending another message to Ashlie.
If he does not seal a deal this time he will sacrifice any last shred of credibility the business world may have had in him. Any future sale may well prove impossible.
It would be sad if it had to come to fans boycotting matches as one group of people seem to be forgotten in all this & that’s the players. Not the greatest squad in the premiership but under Rafa’s leadership battled tooth and nail to keep us in the Premier League.
Sincerely hope that Ashlie’s final act isn’t a sale of the crown jewels in the pack.Longstaffe, Dubravka, Schar, Almiron, Lascelles. Sadly Gayle, Mutu & Joselu helped by Almiron will prove to be insufficient to keep us up.
The lack of ambition the Club is the underlying factor . We are all sick to death of fighting to finish 17th or above every season with weaken teams fielded in the League & FA Cups.
Come on Ashley you have made millions from your “initial” investment, please do the honest thing for once in your life and sell the club. You certainly won’t get a better offer. Give the fanatical loyal fans of this once great club their time for success. Fifty years is a hell of a long time to wait and most have never sampled any success at all in their lifetimes .
