Exclusion Of Promising Youngster Shows Club Has No Foresight

Elias Sorensen was left off of Newcastle’s squad for the Premier League Asia Trophy in what may have been a surprise to many fans.

Despite the squad only have three senior strikers if you include Yoshinori Muto and calling up five youngsters, Sorensen has been left out of the squad and remains training with a depleted U23 squad.

This, to us, seems like a very poor decision barring unknown issues with the youngster.

Sorensen is our brightest prospect and one would think that giving him some time with the first team, especially when his presence is sorely needed, would be a great way to get his season off to a positive start.

Elias Sorensen– club needs to instill confidence in him

Sorensen bagged 20 goals for the reserves last season despite spending two wasted months on an unsuccessful loan spell at Blackpool. He will be looking to build on last year’s excellent progress.

This is an important year for Elias as he will most likely need to go out on loan for the year to get some first-team football under his belt.

The club could have jumpstarted this season’s growth process by involving him in the first team but for whatever reason they just have not done that.

They have given 18-year-old Thomas Allen a chance to train and maybe even see some preseason action with the first team instead of Sorensen.

They have also called up four other players to play with the squad in China. They are defender Owen Bailey, goalkeeper Nathan Harker, midfielder Matty Longstaff, and defender Kelland Watts.

While we do like the inclusion of these players, especially Sean Longstaff’s brother Matty, we just don’t see why Sorensen was excluded unless there are some internal issues going on that we are unaware of.

If there are no issues, then jetting off to China today with just Joselu, Yoshinori Muto, Dwight Gayle, and young Thomas Allen as the strikeforce is extremely underwhelming.

The supporters would have been somewhat excited to see Elias get some preseason action, certainly ahead of Joselu and Gayle. Both of whom may not be here to start the season.

At the end of last season, Elias was asked about his hopes for this season. This is what he said:

“I’m open minded.

“I am just waiting to see what the club want me to do.

“If they want me to go on loan I will happily do that and if they want me to stay I will be happy to do that.

“It is just up to the club what happens now.”

It just seemed like such a logical decision to include the striker in the squad. We are not sure what their decision process was on this one, but it is just another headscratcher by this club.

If Sorensen had the same impact that Longstaff had we’d have another gem..

What I can’t understand is why Longstaff only got into the team through injuries and Ki away on internationals.

He must have been just as impressive in training so why wasn’t he given a chance earlier – a Prem debut at 21 isn’t exactly ‘quick progress’.

This will taken as knocking Rafa, but you have to ask why he wasn’t played earlier.

At £50M he is now the highest valued player we have.

    BOYCOTT is the only way.
Have more Arsenal fans than Newcastle inside the ground. Chat with the Arsenal fans, and ask them to abuse Ashley constantly. Fans should wok together against bastards like him – stand out side and support but do NOT pay
