Reporter Blasts Newcastle Owner Over Complete Shambles At The Club

Telegraph reporter Luke Edwards has slammed the shambles that is Newcastle United today, under completely incompetent and stubborn owner Mike Ashley this summer.

The club has gone from one that could perhaps break into the top eight under Rafa this season in the Premier League to one which will almost certainly be in another relegation fight.

Yes – another one.

At the end of the season, when we hammered Fulham 4-0 at Craven Cottage, things looked exciting for this summer and next season.

But now Rafa has gone as have our two top scorers, Ayoze Perez, and Salomon Rondon, who looks to be joining Rafa in China.

We will now be bookies’ favorites to get relegated with the club looking just like it was in September 2008 when Kevin Keegan was essentially forced out of the club.

It was a shambles back then too.

We were relegated that season for the first time ever from the Premier League, and now there are some of our other top players like goalkeeper Martin Dubravka who will want out of the club – now that savior Rafa Benitez has left.

And things have stalled on the signing Steve Bruce as Rafa’s replacement (what a comedown!) because Newcastle refuse to pay the reported £5M compensation to get the Championship level manager and his assistants to the club.

Having to pay the Owls for Steve Bruce to replace Rafa Benitez – only Newcastle could end up in that situation.

This is what Luke Edwards has said today on talkSPORT:

“I think they’ve gone for Steve in the end because of all the people who wanted it, he wanted it the most, so for there to now be delayed over compensation really is ludicrous.”

“To not have a shortlist in place because you were so convinced that Rafa Benitez was going to stay. For Rafa to then go. They haven’t signed anyone yet. It really is a mess.”

“If they don’t recruit well this summer they’re going to go down, I don’t care who the manager is.”

I’ve never seen such poor management in action.

The goal of being a good manager is to always plan ahead – something that Rafa Benitez was excellent at but Mike Ashley doesn’t even think about.

Mike Ashley may have made billions in his own business at Sports Direct but he is just hopeless – a bufoon at any kind of management.

We need to get him out of the club by any fair means possible – and as soon as possible.

Until that happens we could become a Championship club yet again.

Even Rafa couldn’t stand any more nonsense from Ashley after three and a half years of lies.

What a complete shambles Ashley has Newcastle in right now.

It’s a complete and utter disgrace for this great club.

Comments welcome.

Rumours are surfacing that Newcastle United are close to making their first signing of the summer, Chelsea midfielder Kyle Scott on a free. The deal is said to be one previously lined up by Rafa that Newcastle executives are keen to carry out.

“They just did it with Blackpool I think jezza.”

don’t think so the Oystons had to sell because the courts ordered them to pay Valeri Belokon £22m. they got their comeuppance eventually but not because of the FA or even the boycotts.

You’re right Jane, thought I’d read that somewhere (reading so much football stuff online at the minute it’s all blurring together!!) but it was a court case not FA stepping in.

I should really double or triple source my statements before making them!!

Mr Edwards, didn’t the club know back in May that Rafa was leaving?
So your shortlist report is not fact if the club knew he was leaving as reported, I could be wrong but didn’t Rafa himself say this?

6 managers have declined Mike Ashleys managerial offer, as they don’t want to work under such a restrictive chairman. Plus, Rafa and Pardew making 8 officially.

These reporters are so clueless and contradictory that if they told me the sea was wet I wouldn’t believe it.

Sly Spirts are still desperately trying to sell Longstaff to Manure.

Does the transfer money all go towards paying this lot off so they don’t say bad things and hurt the tapeworms feelings.

Rafa informed Charnley he wouldn’t sign the contract he was offered without the stipulations he had requested in May – Ashley , thinking he was bluffing just left it on the table thinking Rafa was bluffing

For Charnley not to start a shortlist of interested managers in may is a complete dereliction of duties – Ashley outt, Chatnley

The simple plain truth is we’ve never got close to being a big club other than the few glorious years with KK and SBR.

And we still couldn’t win anything.

I’d have sacrificed all of that fabulous attacking football for a boring, defensive, 1-0 side that won the league or the cup.

I was gutted like I’ve never been before when we lost the title to Man U because I could see the way the game was going, that it would become harder and harder to compete with Man U and the top London clubs, and that was before Man City entered the scene.

Short of us being bought by a spendthrift multi billionaire, or pulling off a Leicester type miracle, that was probably my last chance in life to see NUFC win a title.

I love the game, and I’ve loved NUFC since before my dad Bill took me to my first game in 1960 aged 7.

But I hate the way football is now.

It’s a mini league of 6 one of which are nailed on to win the league and who now have squads so big they can put out reserves and still win the FA and League Cup.

Even if we had that spendthrift billionaire…

The real top layers, and their partners/wives, have so much money and such a fantastic lifestyle that the chances of them choosing us – and living in Newcastle – over the big Manchester or London teams with their cities, is minimal.

We’d have to pay them double to even tempt them… and THAT is why the really big money is unlikely to buy us.

The big money would be better off buying Palace, Fulham or Millwall than us.

The middling new owners that we are more likely to attract could splash the cash and, God forbid, do a QPR and leave us virtually bankrupt in the Champs or worse – especially with today’s ludicrous fees and wages.

Top transfer fees have at least doubled in the 18 months since Neymar was sold – look at Pogba £90M to £180M.

I hate the thought of settling for Prem safety as the seasons target, but the reality is who outside of that top 6 is nailed on not to be relegated this season. Not one.

Money has almost ruined the dream of winning for all but a handful of elite clubs.

Underneath it all, the anger, hatred and hopelessness expressed by fans on this blog is caused by the big money elite killing our dreams.

Ashley is a symptom, not the cause.

That’s why I get the abuse I do.

    For facing reality.

Saw this article and thought about time – what have the chronicle dragged up – but no its a national paper whilst the local rag “The Chronic” have nothing to offer. They should all be ashamed of themselves as they watch the Buckinghamshire slug take all the money. I think we can compete financially with Brentford and Wigan now Ashlie.

The fact he didn’t have a shortlist before May is a dereliction of duty. All well run clubs will have a list of managers, long or short, at almost all times throughout a managers tenure.

The fact we don’t appear to have had one 4-6 weeks after we knew we were losing our manager is gross negligence.

Just seen on SSN, Bruce winking and nodding at a Wednesday fan who asked if he was staying. £5million is an outrageous amount of compensation, but I can’t help feel that Bruce will have seen the public response to his appointment and decided he didn’t need that sort of hassle. To not get Bruce after all the public hype though…. They just keeping finding new lows when you couldn’t imagine there is anywhere further to fall.

Tell the press you would NEVER consider working for Ashley and you would never leave the fans of Wednesday in the lurch.

You instantly become a hero in Newcastle and Sheffield and more importantly might finally tip Ashley over the edge and convince him he simply HAS to sell up now!!

You can do it Agent Bruce!

    Bills,
While some if that rings true, you are well wide of the mark overall.

I don’t want a billionaire that spends fortunes and buys a place in the elite. I know plenty of others who don’t.

I’d quite happily have the club run sustainably and within its own means. I want a club to be proud of, that represents the city and the area, playing with pride, passion, proving to others that we aren’t some irrelevant Northern outpost.

Ashley isn’t a symptom. Yes, he isn’t really in a position to outspend anyone, and to bring the world’s biggest.

Is he in a position to put in place the right people to build the club over time, to actually develop revenue streams, to develop facilities and players, to put experienced and we’ll qualified people into key roles to make the club more, to make it a club that is aiming for the best it can be – whatever that may be.

This is why the hatred of Ashley is so strong. The money aspect would not even be much of an issue if the right people were employed to make the club what it should be.

Ashley is the cause of our clubs problems.

Bill – sorry mate but you’re wrong , Spurs have spent well and broken into top 6, Leicester won the league without breaking the bank, Wolves challenging , Southampton. , Burnley , Everton and more have all broken into the top 6 including us all in fattys reign – nobody’s expecting to win the league although Leicester showed that with a lack of injuries and a kind fixture list it can be done

To do it consistently you need to invest and keep your best players ( which Leicester failed to do ) as big money clubs come and take your best players (Kante / Drinkwater- Chelsea – Mahrez – mancity etc)
