The Problem With John Carver And Shola Ameobi’s Sky Sports Comments

Sky Sports’ Pete Graves has launched a defense of John Carver and Shola Ameobi after their comments yesterday on the pending appointment of Steve Bruce.

This is what John Carver said to Sky Sports that led to a backlash from the fanbase:

“If he does get appointed then he has got my support”

“He has got a lot of people’s support in the North East.”

“He is a Geordie guy.”

“He is from just down the road in Corbridge.”

“Loves the football club…but not just that, he has got a good record in the Premier League.”

“I think he is just short of 1,000 games as a coach and as a manager.”

“So he is a stable appointment and let’s get behind him.”

Shola Ameobi then followed Carver’s comments with the following:

“If it is Steve, he has been a manager for a long time obviously he has got a good pedigree.”

“You know being a geordie y’know is just the cherry on top.”

“Ultimately whoever is hopefully coming in will do the best job, Rafa left on the back of two good results in the league and hopefully the new manager can take us forward.”

While Ameobi is employed by the club, we can understand that he is not going to be negative. However, a “no comment” would have been the best course for him.

How in the world, can Steve Bruce take the club forward from where Rafa Benitez had toiled under Mike Ashley to get us?

This was just a ridiculous statement and sometimes “no comment” is actually a preferable response.

As for John Carver, well the self-described “best manager in the world” (currently unemployed) says two absolutely ludicrous things.

First of all, he does not have a lot of support of people in the North East. Secondly, his pedigree is certainly not good.

Unless, of course, your definition of “a lot of people” and “good” is similar to your definition of “best manager” – which would both be the polar opposite of reality.

Pete Graves came out this morning to defend the pair after their interview caused a stir among the fans.

The issue is not really the comments supporting Steve Bruce or the backlash they have faced for them. The problem is that the media don’t give an accurate representation of what is going on with the club.

Sky Sports is quick to trot out Dennis Wise to act like Mike Ashley is some normal guy who is being maligned by the Newcastle fanbase.

So when an ex-player and ex-coach who are both from the area are on the television acting like everything is normal, fans are going to react accordingly.

Everything is not normal.

The owner of the club just got rid of a world class manager and is now trying to replace him with someone with one of the worst records in the Premier League.

This is what Sky Sports should be reporting. Not running with positive statements about a club that is in complete shambles and getting worse by the minute.

This week on ToonEnders St, will Newcastle be sold, we Bruce become Manager, will the club release any statement.

What a fcuking fiasco our club is in, no talking to the most important people, the fans.

Boycott the shite out of the Arsenal game, invade the pitch, have a sit in, show the world that MA does not have full control on everything involving our club.

I guess we have Bruce’s first press conference to look forward to, and his speal about the future of the club and taking it forward from the job raffa had done. I’ll look forward to reading his body, as surely he can’t possibly think that’s plausible or possible, under Ashley or by himself. As suggested before, I’d not be shocked if Ashley chucks him cash just to prove a point to raffa, but it certainly won’t be spent well. Que the line of player agents looking for their players to be shipped out and others to come in and rinse us dry. Also let’s see with Bruce’s connections with manure if they wangle a deal plus their dross that can’t get near their failing first team for longstaff, as he will tell longstaff how big and magical a club he could be at, as he pulls out his winner medals to show. Sad days, very sad days.

Here is an idea, why not boycott the matches however show the players support by turning up at the training ground on mass show them support that way, as they will only be driven out the club by this, some could do with it but some are worth keeping. As if they leave that really is and will be a sad sight.

I wonder what will happen to Wor Flags, now that Rafa has gone and mass boycotts are coming all season. Maybe they can get behind other other ways of having a presence, such as using the funds they have generated to create an alternative Newcastle United shirt that fans can buy. The shirt would probably need a new badge design as Ashley owns the property to the official badge (it’s beautiful I know). They could even have a sponsor or two on the shirt. I’m sure it would be a lot cheaper than the extortionate ‘official’ shirt fans will no doubt be staying away from.

    Just a thought.

Jabba will employ the same tactics the mackem owner did
He will start giving away tickets to fill the stadium
We will need to be seen outside to deter them going

He will kill the club to squeeze the last penny out, if we don’t stop him there won’t be s club left to support

The problem of the ‘Heart’ approval icon.

I have commented a few times on this blog regarding the Heart approval facility.

At its best it is a valuable instrument to instantly post personal approval to a comment.

However, in terms of balance and fairness, there should be a corresponding facility to post a note of disapproval to comments.

In the absence of two choices of comment, I think that the Heart icon should be deleted.

There are too many posters who believe that gaining 5, 6, or even 7 ‘Hearts’ gives them overwhelming approval! ( I’m lookin’ at you Mr Billsson)…

It’s getting to the point now where we need a manager in and in fast. As much as I hate saying this we could do worse then Bruce. Not much worse but worse by all counts. Who else would be interested at this point.
If we don’t get a manager in soon we won’t strengthen the squad and were doomed. If we go down I believe it will be even harder for cashley to sell.
Ergghhh it’s all grey. There’s no black and white now that rafa has gone.

    Genjikai,
Yes I would like to get more involved directly, I’m deadly serious about this Jarrow march re-enactment, I’m going to spend the next week e mailing the Long Distance Walkers Association, finding out the costs for portaloos, contacting people in towns where we could erect tents and place portaloos, contacting Chi Onwarah before I present my plan to TMG. It’s going to be a busy week. If it is at all feasible a march could happen in time for the season finishing next year.

    I don’t think so.

The club farted around with Joselu’s transfer for weeks.
Joselu , NUFC and Alaves all wanted the deal to go through.
His terms and the fees were agreed.
The only rational explanation for it not happening was an
    outside agency affecting things.
