Neil reported earlier today that it looks like Newcastle have paid Sheffield Wednesday £4m for the services of Steve Bruce., with news that he has now resigned from the Owls.
So becasue of poor foresight and management from the Newcastle owner we have to pay a Championship club £4M for their Championship class manager to replace world-class manager Rafa Benitez.
Mike Ashley refused for three years to give Rafa enough transfer money to build a good team on Tyneside and refused to meet his demands to stay.
So this is where we have ended up.
But just like back in 20015 when we didn’t have a manager expect Ashley to spend the money in the transfer window – maybe to spite Rafa?
Ashley is not logical in what he does, and he’s a very dangerous owner of a football club.
We just hope that whoever comes in, Bruce can get the best out of them as Rafa did.
The only way to salvation for this club is to somehow get this unscrupulous owner out of the club.
He’s a cancer on Newcastle.
You can quote me on that!
Steve Bruce – almost certain to become Newcastle manager now
OK – so I’ve said all that before and if Steve Bruce comes in we will support him and the players.
Why?
Because he’s the manager and we will support any Newcastle manager and our players – it’s as simple as that.
It’s Ashley we want out, and new owners will be able to resurrect the club with a much better and more expensive manager in place – plus more talented players than we have.
That’s what Rafa was trying to do but the one man who was stopping him was the owner.
Bruce has a second class Premier League record, but it will not do any good at all to immediately get at him like fans did against Alan Pardew.
We now realize after the Benitez tenure – that Pardew didn’t have much say at all in anything at Newcastle.
He did the best he could with the players he was given.
It will be much the same with Steve Bruce, but he a good man-manager and puts up with no nonsense from players.
And like Pardew before him, it will be the biggest and most famous club he will ever manage.
That was not true for Rafa, and he brilliantly got the fans and the City behind the football club.
Bruce is a Geordie and turned down his first chance to manage the club when Freddy Shepherd wanted him to replace Sir Bobby Robson back in August 2004.
But Bruce had just signed a five-year contract with Birmingham City, and his release clause (compensation to Brum) was £5m.
That’s interesting in itself.
Anyway, this summer saga – one of the worst at Newcastle for decades – will hopefully soon be over (a little bit) with at least a manager in place.
Whoever the manager is he needs to sign some players and also persuade the likes of Martin Dubravka, Fabian Schar and even Isaac Hayden to stay at the club.
If Bruce can do that he will have made a good start to his Newcastle career.
And we will hope and pray that somebody can come in and quickly buy the club from the owner.
He deserves to be kicked out of the club.
He’s earned it.
We need Newcastle United FC resurrected – that’s all I am hoping for now – plus that we can survive relegation this season.
Those goals are a lot different than they were on May 12th.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41So is Steve the Bruce going to join the team in China or stay in Newcastle and watch YouTube clips of Joelinton?

Comment #43I have to say I feel seriously disheartened by the goings on at NUFC – For health reasons I don’t have a ST but if I was a fit as a fiddle there’s no way I’d put any money into The Slugs pocket – 100% no way!

Comment #45It doesn’t matter who the manager is
It doesn’t matter who we (don’t) buy
It doesn’t matter if we splash out on wages (haha)
It really doesn’t.
Nothing matters whilst the parasite is here! Nothing whatsoever.
To go from Rafa, especially after his statement of no ambition to steve Bruce has got to be one of, if not THE stupidest football decision ever made by any club. It truly beggers belief.
I mean, who’s made this decision? Penfold? Haha, don’t make me piss!
The club is falling apart and those in charge are watching it crumble and doing nothing about it because they haven’t got a fcuking clue!

Comment #49Not enough just to boycott though. Even if for one game turn up but don’t go in – protest and make your thoughts known and get your point across – don’t sit in silence hoping someone else will sort this out

Don’t rest easy, for the right price Mash will sell Miggy and won’t care if Bruce rates him or not. Bruce will have zero say in signings except as and when he agrees with Charnley.

It’s massively deflating what has & is happening at NUFC
They are replacing a high class stallion with a cart horse
Newcastle United had a top class manager and they’ve let him slip through their fingers and now they’re spending serious money on a manager who has zero pedigree in the Premier League.
Bruce, is I feel, taking on more than he can chew!
🙁

Comment #53Liked Nedders comments, especially:
“Fulham 0 – 4 Newcastle. If somebody said to you then “enjoy it while it lasts, you’re losing Perez, Rondon and Raffa, and will have Steve Bruce in charge” you’d have laughed, quite loudly.”
-could also add “and spent £5million compensation getting Steve Bruce in charge”
Feel like going to Shite Direct and pulling everything off the racks and trying on a million pairs of shoes and then walking out. And if Mike walked in and saw me do it then what could he say “Hey that’s disrespectful” which would be hugely ironic.

Comment #54I’m in my mid seventies and my long term dream has been to see NUFC lift a cup or mix it with the top six.
Alas I suspect I’ll be long gone before that happens!

Comment #56So the smoke screen of the takeover to soften the blow of Rafa leaving has happened.
Ashley has used this trick more than once.
The Stockholm syndrome has left us. No one is going to pay the ransom we need to fight the hijackers.
It’s the only way we’ll escape.

Comment #57Here’s a new novel idea for Brucey.
Section: Non fiction
Genre: Crime
Newercastle United appoint failing manager Bruce Stevens to manage the team, but it soon becomes evident that the club is actually a disguise for multiple crime rackets. Stephens uncovers a plot from Lee Charmless, a seemingly harmless but very calculating man who has been embezzling generated income from the club to fund his own whippet farm. Meanwhile, later in his first season club owner Ashley Michaels is found dead, initially suspected overdose of curry and beer. But was it an accident or does Stevens have to uncover the truth? All the while wearing a disguise when out in public as the Newercastle fans are hungry for blood.
