Media Catch Onto Newcastle’s Season Ticket Dilemma

The Daily Star and the Sun both have articles out this morning highlighting the amount of season tickets that are still available at Newcastle.

This is what Sam Meade writes in the Daily Star of Newcastle’s predicament with their unsold season tickets:

Newcastle have endured a difficult summer following the departure of Rafa Benitez and the failure to, as of yet, find a replacement.

Fans are not overawed at the potential appointment of Steve Bruce and seem to be venting their anger in the only way possible.

As of July 15 12,083 season tickets remained unsold – that is a significant hike on the 5,200 season tickets still available at this point 12 months ago.

The Magpies have put season tickets on general sale after the deadline for fans to renew passed.

David Coverdale for the Sun also writes on the subject though has different numbers than reported in the Daily Star.

Newcastle fans are hitting hated owner Mike Ashley in the pocket — with almost 12,000 season tickets left unsold.

Yesterday the Toon put them on general sale after the deadline passed for existing holders to renew their seats.

And when Sun Sport checked the tickets website, there was a sea of green on the St James’ Park map, with a staggering 11,710 tickets still up for grabs. That is 6,500 MORE than this time last year.

We think a lot of fans held off renewing season tickets to see what would happen with Rafa Benitez. With his departure along with the dreadful way the club communicated with the fans this summer, many fans have just decided to stay away.

It’s interesting to note that the club have extended the deadline for existing holders to renew. Well, they will have a hard time getting any to reconsider with the news that Steve Bruce is about to be appointed manager.

Maybe that is why we heard the Joelinton link resurface yesterday. As Luke Edwards reported that a deal was “in place”.

It seems that many fans have had it with Mike Ashley and his games. He has completely destroyed the foundation that was put in place by Rafa Benitez.

Paying £4m for Steve Bruce when he wouldn’t make any concessions to keep a world-class manager like Rafa Benitez is just a maniacal way to run a club.

We have to wonder since compensation has been paid for the first time under Mike Ashley, just how poorly Steve Bruce will have to do before he gets sacked. Ashley will not want to replace Bruce after paying such an exorbitant fee for him.

This season is shaping up just like 2015-16 when we were last relegated. There may be big money to spend but it will be on players with little regard to how the manager has the team set up.

We will also have a manager who will be hopeless but will be given a long rope with which to operate. Just long enough for this club to spelunk into the Championship again.

one fine day @86 – Yeah I’m still planning to do predictions – I normally do it the week before the season kicks off which gives us the most chance to see which players we’ve brought in (and manager this year!) and how we play in the friendlies – I have to say this season’s predictions are going to be interesting to say the least!!!

    OP

I hear ya mate regarding loyal fans that have literally given there whole life following the club.Brian is a pretty infectious chap once you get him talking on memories and recollections of past tenths stories on Nufc.
And I would say that any one of a certain age will agree that we have been through tough times and stuck by the club because there has always been hope.Yet now there is none under Ashley,Which has been emphatically been brought more to attention by Rafa’s little dogs since leaving the club,Backed up by what Ayoze has said to.
If we still think we are a big club then Benitez should never have been allowed to leave because not only was he carrying the club forward but also a city that was starting to believe again.
Unfortunately mate Ashley had squashed that and the parasite has ruined all the hard work Rafa put into the club

12,000 tickets unsold BUT extended deadline for existing ticket holders.

What’s the betting the 12,000 unsold DON’T include the ones that are currently held but not renewed.

Surely the Mike Ashley has paid compensation for Steve Bruce story is not true otherwise he would already be our manager? I can only hope he has resigned to speed up the process but they Shef Wed are standing firm on the compensation amount. Unlikely as it may be how fantastic would it be if Ashley refused to budge too and Stevie Boy ended up on the dole.

It would be good to see popular opinion turn in our favour. Graves’ exchange on Twitter was definitely a PR push to inject some “sense” into Twitsville, and it might be the sign of second level desperate tactics to turn back a slow tide. Graves exchange was also as good as a Sky official statement backing up Ashley. He obviously has allies there, even if it’s because sky depends on his Circus for their telly gold moments of matches where sobbing Mags watch their sub standard team being scoured by the big hitters of the league through their fingers.

It’s a desperate shot by Sky though, rounding on fans for their “erroneous thinking” and implying treachery against their former heroes. He’s not simply out of touch, he is definitely following a prescribed line.

The answer is to not just boycott games, boycott Ashley group companies where you can. Boycott nowtv sports subscriptions. Boycott BT sport’s. Cut off the oxygen and he will struggle, his “preferred media partners” will then start to distance themselves from his cause and the tide will turn. It will be inconvenient and at times awkward, but it only takes one particular spark to bring the biggest thing down.

Ratner told an unfortunate private joke to his “friends” and brought his company down overnight because the publicity was overwhelming. The tide turned against Wonga, persistence got public opinion against them until the government effectively hamstrung them. Gone. He’s not too big to fall.

I rang Nufc box office up yesterday for Renewals.Where I sit in the Platinum and Corporate is not included in unsold tickets as it is locked off to General sale.If you factor this section on top of the rest unsold…You are looking at around 20,000 unsold compared to only 5,000 this time last season

Right lads i saw ashliesisamackems comments last night. I’ve heard similar but wasnt sure what to think or do with info.
My belief is still that something is happening but not sure it will happen as soon as friday.
My info has come from the same circle as last week when i named my source, i was told about it on friday and have been sitting on it until i saw the posts from last night.
Same mantra as always i suppose, hope is the only thing keeping me going.
BTW for what its worth i cancelled 3 tickets last week when i was told takeover was off.

    Think Dubai has a point.
How can you extend the deadline for season ticket renewals and have them on general sale at the same time.
Some folks would renew only to be told sorry we have sold your seat.
    Sorry if I’m missing something.
    Not researched it or owt.

I myself cancelled mine 3 years ago ( 27 years season ticket ) my family 2 of followed suit of their own accord . No doubt we will see you on here whinging at the poor manager, poor squad, poor league position
and having a dig at Ashley BUT still giving him money ???? We have no hope of shifting this repulsive man have we.

Stardust got this right – it’s not NUFC any more. This is the illusion that, understandably, diehard supporting matchgoers are being hypnotised with, that it’s still “their club”. You have to stand back and analyze just what has happened, that is, where that NUFC was quietly strangled and the imposter slowly replaced it.

NUFC is a stranger dressed in the old club colours. The former was of course a business, but it was a business built to finance itself, not be a billboard to enrich something else entirely. It was a business that was modelled on old, original lines, yes the owner could take out money for himself, but it HAD to be competitive to make the best use of its resources. It HAD to get the best playing staff it could to achieve the status that attracted matchgoers, TV money, kit money etc to finance it’s never-ending betterment. It HAD to compete to be at the top level where the money was. Honours equated with success, and the payoff for the fans was Pride in a club that represented their aspirations and determination to make something that represented good out of their community.

That NUFC was snuffed out by Ashley. This NUFC has been harvested of all that good stuff. Bits hacked off here and there, vital organs removed. What’s left is a facade with the right insignia, but nothing of the old NUFC remains but former players earning a last payday and mercenary journeymen taking in coin and saying what they are told to. Whatever used to be channelled into the club for success is now diverted into an extended circulatory system that is the lifeblood of unconnected businesses.

The NUFC that those loyal home and away supporters cheer on is a stuffed doll that LOOKS just like their team. It is built for show and not for purpose. It is there to keep the illusion going that this team is trying to achieve something other than take their money and put it straight into a stranger’s pocket. These supporters should refuse to allow it and demand their own club back, the one they started going to see in he first place. They need to look carefully at what they are supporting and recognise it’s a fake, it’s not real, it’s built to hoodwink them.

We need to take control of the destiny of our club we need the premier league to sit up and take notice. Empty grounds is a hard one to sell to foreign tv company’s. We are trying to hit the wrong person’s pocket. Be interesting to see what happens at arsenal.

Since the news broke about Bruce just nothing adds up, ato be fair since the news broke about the takeover it has always felt like we aren’t getting the whole truth just fed scraps.

But Tsunki dont get carried away with your sociological analysis. Its still a football club even if its run badly. You can try to become the lecturer on here all you want but people will still support the club in various ways. If you wont be looking out for the scores on a saturday then dont bother, but dont identify yourself as an nufc supporter any more. I hooe arsenal is a massive boycott and hope thousands if season tickets remain unsold but even with Bruce, just like with charva i’ll keep on supporting. Difficult not to, Tarquin. By the way nedders wanted to burn the shirt the other day so you have a friend there.

Beefman13 “the Arabs have ratted us out” – are you blaming a prospective buyer! For all we know a price was agreed and then Mike-Ass suddenly asked for free advertising for the the next +10 years and the buyers didn’t give in.

I would also say that Miss-Ashley has wrecked and de-valued the club – on the 10th May we beat Fulham 0-4 and had Rafa, Rondon, Perez – and now Mike-Ass has driven them all out and is installing Bruce. Do you think the price of the club has gone up or down since 10th May??? Seriously, does anybody on this blog think the value of the club on 16th July is the same as back in May?
