I’d be less disappointed if Donald trump bought us, and sacked all our foreign players. It makes me look forward to bloody brexit chat this does. Bit early for comedy before the Edinburgh fringe but this is by far the biggest joke of the summer.

Looks like largely a 2nd eleven, but with the state of the squad it’s kinda hard to tell.

Would expect Dubs, Longstaff (Sean), Gayle and Schaer to start in our first choice line-up

Let’s be honest. That’s a hideous starting eleven.

Where’s our goals coming from this season?

Anyone that’s ever doubted Rafa or had a dig about the style of football we played- it was tough to watch but necessary- is going to be very quickly brought down to earth this season. They will soon see that Rafa was getting every last drop out of the group he had.

I know its only a friendly but, colback, lazaar and murphy… Wtf

Murphy is pants and colback should be nowhere near the team, didn’t realise lazaar was still here either.

The obvious now coming soon: dubs, schar and gayle are gone.

Fck the team and the regime is the way I feel right now.

Mrs Doubtfire given the reigns to Nufc as our new head coach eh. Pre season is always full of fringe players but I think they will be integrated more into the first team if nothing changes regarding incoming transfers

    Team today

Newcastle United: Karl Darlow; Jamie Sterry, Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark, Achraf Lazaar; Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey, Jack Colback; Jacob Murphy, Matt Ritchie; Yoshinori Muto.

Substitutes: Nathan Harker, Freddie Woodman, Paul Dummett, Javier Manquillo, Owen Bailey, Federico Fernández, Fabian Schär, Kelland Watts, Ki Sung-yueng, Matty Longstaff, Sean Longstaff, Rolando Aarons, Tom Allan, Elias Sørensen.

Probably see a complete swap at half time, looks to me like a training exercise rather than a competitive effort.

Of course the ‘legal’ letter’s a spoof – anyone with even the slightest knowledge of legalese can see it.

However and if it really has been issued to the media, the fact that it’s linguistically flawed may well draw attention to that and thus the point it’s making about Ashley and Charmless.

As said, IF it’s been put out there, it might just prove to be a clever move and expose the reality of Ashley’s cynical abuse of Newcastle United and its fans.

Bill, Redfearn and Dawson have their day-jobs to return to, Redfearn as U23s coach and Dawson as Director of the Academy.

I agree, btw – this is nowt more than a training exercise and will likely see huge swathes of subs, depending on the rules.

Head down, though – if you think this place has been toxic the last few weeks, it’s only downhill from here.

BBC Newcastle’s Newcastle United commentator Matthew Raisbeck

While is hard to see how Newcastle could have found an upgrade on Rafael Benitez, many supporters are rather underwhelmed by the idea of Steve Bruce taking over.

With the departure of the hugely popular Spaniard, and the fact takeover talks between owner Mike Ashley and Sheikh Khaled appeared to have stalled, it has been a frustrating summer for United’s fans – many of whom are now in rebellious mood and have called for a boycott of St James’ Park until Ashley leaves.

Bruce has been a contender for the job in the past and there is little doubt he will be determined to do the best he can for the club he supports.

He will also be less political than Benitez, who regularly clashed with the club over its recruitment policy, in particular, during his three years in charge.

But, the vastly experienced 58-year-old has a huge job on his hands to prepare the Magpies for the new campaign.

They have already lost strikers Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez – responsible for 23 of their 42 Premier League goals last season – plus midfielders Mo Diame and Kenedy from their playing squad.

And, with less than a month until the transfer window closes, they are the only top-flight club yet to make a signing.
    .
    .
    .
    .
“Less political” is probably the best accolade there.
