Here are a few quotes from some key members of the squad on the announcement of Steve Bruce as the new Newcastle United Head Coach.
This is a small quote from Matt Ritchie but one that has cause a bit of controversy to say the least. What is he supposed to say? Remember, Matt Ritchie never does anything in half measure. It is always to the extreme. So that can explain his enthusiasm just a little.
“Bruce has been in the game for a long time and played and managed at a high level so I’m sure he’ll be fantastic for the club. A really exciting season is in prospect.”
Federico Fernandez gives a more measured response while referencing the poor performance in the match today. He also mentions the situation from the fans perspective.
“Of course, the new manager is coming. We’re looking forward to working with him, a man with great experience.
“Ben has given us a fantastic two weeks. This was not the best experience, but now we’re thinking positive, and looking forward to working with him.
“I understand the fans and the situation, but, for us, we want to work and be better as a team, try to work hard – to be ready for the new season.
“We want to show the fans and everyone we can compete. Of course, fans maybe want a different manager or players, but we need to work hard to show we are ready for the Premier League.”
Jamaal Lascelles has called for unity as the captain should. It’s time for the squad to kick on now. In their minds, they can do nothing about the owner situation and must press on despite the negativity surrounding Steve Bruce.
“We’re all looking forward to it. We’ve been waiting for him to come in, now it’s confirmed we’re looking forward to it.
“He’s a well known manager who has done well in the Premier League and the Championship.
“Now manager’s coming in, we’re looking forward.
“Most clubs are pretty settled by pre-season, unfortunately it didn’t happen but it’s not the end of the world.
“It’s important everyone gets behind Steve Bruce. We’ve got to stick together. It’s the best thing we can do, we can’t be pointing the finger and having a go.”

Comment #82And I thought it was toxic yesterday…. Jeez, tuberculosis spouting off again, debacle in China, & a “coach”!?! Haha.
Different watering hole today, think it’s going to take more than 2 pre sale celebratory pints to get the taste out of my mouth this time!

he didn’t walk away
On 2 October 2018, Villa surrendered a two-goal lead, drawing 3–3 at home to bottom club Preston North End. One spectator threw a cabbage at Bruce and there were calls from home fans on the Holte End for Bruce to go. The following day, he was sacked by Villa after a poor run of form

I take it you’ve heard the quote
Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something.
Every man and his dog on here know which catergory you fall in, and which catergory the posters fall in which you name!
Another jealous article you clearly are!

Comment #93Rafa Benitez points per game in last 2 premier league seasons with NUFC = 1.17
Steve Bruce points per game in the PL = 1.13
Teams managed by Bruce in PL = Brum, Mackems, Wigan, Hull.
Where are they now?
It could be argued that Bruce was punching above his weight. IF THAT IS POSSIBLE.

News on the Newcastle budget.
For this window it’s 50M plus Perez money, plus Joselu money plus a surplus of 11 million from last year.
90 plus million.
That is the absolute minimum required.
But, don’t tell me show me.

Comment #108It was a fair comparison Toonboi. Bruce with crap teams and Rafa with NUFC. Both had no budgets. Rafa at Liverpool was at a club that usually finished top 4 with or without him.

Comment #114Earlier someone suggested almiron as a good buy and I agree but he’s yet to score – he made space for Robson and Perez who put the ball in the net , if we get Linton ( a big if at 40 million ) we’ll have loads of space but nobody to put the ball in the net

Comment #118So what criteria will a promising young player need to think about before becoming a Newcastle player?
Fans 1/5 – Used to be 5/5 but current regime has created toxic atmosphere through running the club with zero emotional intelligence, zero vision and at times seemly doing everything possible to piss off supporters.
Ambition of club 2/5 – This score I feel is generous but since relegation will hit Ashleys pockets he might try to avoid, although current decision making suggests otherwise. no cup run, avoid relegation!
Location 2/5 – always been a bit of a hindrance since the PL money has been ploughed into the game as poor links to london and the millionaires parts of the country.
Development 1/5 – Very poor modern history of developing young players, most prospects seem to jump or are pushed at earliest opportunity due to poor wages, coaching or quick buck for club. Far better opportunities elsewhere.
Wages 2/5 – Poor upper limit on wages (comparatively) but seem to overpay poor players. Every year player bonuses fail to be sorted before start of season pissing players off and causing discontent when club should be creating atmosphere of maximum performance focus.
Manager appeal 1/5 – was 5/5 under Rafa now 1/5. No history of working with top players, known for being disloyal to most clubs he’s managed, awful PL record, nobody will have heard of him outside of uk. Pulling power = 0. But he’s a geordie! 🙁
Facilities 2/5 – needed new academy, training and medical facilities over 10 years ago, no value placed towards large or marginal gains for performance development.
Media exposure 2/5 – Not a London or Manchester based club so Southern press arent interested and NE sports press are an embarrassment for towing club line and creating clickbait rubbish.
Club promises 1/5 – constant record of lying to fans, media and themselves over intent to compete, improve, challenge and sell. Plus importantly breaking promises to players with regards agreements to leave. Spend more time effort and money creating their own media spin than actually doing the right thing to start with.
Team moral 2/5 and declining quickly – Most players with any ambition want to leave and rightly so.
So when making a decision over clubs, any promising player will pick a club that beats our 16/50 score, this is probably beaten by any division 2 club and above and why we have a 3rd rate 14th choice manager. The only players we can attract are players nobody else will touch or mercenaries that will do anything for a bit more cash. This equals poor squad ability, poor results, discontented fans, poor squad resilience, which equals even poorer performances and ultimately relegation. This is a skeleton of the club we once knew. Should now be called Newcastle ununited, doing the absolute bare minimum to survive! No ambition, no hope!
