What The Squad Is Saying About The Appointment Of Steve Bruce

Here are a few quotes from some key members of the squad on the announcement of Steve Bruce as the new Newcastle United Head Coach.

This is a small quote from Matt Ritchie but one that has cause a bit of controversy to say the least. What is he supposed to say? Remember, Matt Ritchie never does anything in half measure. It is always to the extreme. So that can explain his enthusiasm just a little.

“Bruce has been in the game for a long time and played and managed at a high level so I’m sure he’ll be fantastic for the club. A really exciting season is in prospect.”

Federico Fernandez gives a more measured response while referencing the poor performance in the match today. He also mentions the situation from the fans perspective.

“Of course, the new manager is coming. We’re looking forward to working with him, a man with great experience.

“Ben has given us a fantastic two weeks. This was not the best experience, but now we’re thinking positive, and looking forward to working with him.

“I understand the fans and the situation, but, for us, we want to work and be better as a team, try to work hard – to be ready for the new season.

“We want to show the fans and everyone we can compete. Of course, fans maybe want a different manager or players, but we need to work hard to show we are ready for the Premier League.”

Jamaal Lascelles has called for unity as the captain should. It’s time for the squad to kick on now. In their minds, they can do nothing about the owner situation and must press on despite the negativity surrounding Steve Bruce.

“We’re all looking forward to it. We’ve been waiting for him to come in, now it’s confirmed we’re looking forward to it.

“He’s a well known manager who has done well in the Premier League and the Championship.

“Now manager’s coming in, we’re looking forward.

“Most clubs are pretty settled by pre-season, unfortunately it didn’t happen but it’s not the end of the world.

“It’s important everyone gets behind Steve Bruce. We’ve got to stick together. It’s the best thing we can do, we can’t be pointing the finger and having a go.”

I wish people would stop talking about us having a 50M pound plus player sales as our transfer budget. There is no pre-planned transfer budget! It will be spend as little as possible from Ashley. Is this JoeLinton news real? 40M euros sounds unlikely at best. Ashley won’t even pay what Wednesday want for Bruce let alone spend 40M euros on one player. I don’t believe any of it.

Think you missed out training facilities -3 out of 10 – as basic as they come – Rafa had to fight tooth and nail for 4g training pitch

Toonboi: of course it is a fair comparison. Rafa at NUFC with no budget and Bruce at crap teams with no budget.

Bringing Liverpool into it makes it unfair.

Dim sum is a style of Chinese cuisine. Dim sum is commonly viewed as Cantonese, although other varieties exist, and is prepared as small bite-sized portions of food served in small steamer baskets or on a small plate. Dim sum dishes are usually served with tea and together form a full tea brunch

We get rid of Perez and make no attempt at Rondon to buy someone with bad stats as a midfielder to play up front instead

So we have an alleged 90 million budget ( this is media talk rather than anything from club )

Joe Linton 40 million upfront , agents fees 10 % 4 million , wages I guess at 70k a week over 5 years at 18.2 million – 62 million gone already and because we pay cash up front the 90 million budget will be 66 max as other clubs pay on hp so I guess from the 30 million Perez money we got 6 million down payment
End of the day , if we make a 40 million signing we’re left with jack for anyone else

Sorry Toonboi: I thought you must have seen the comparisons of Bruce’s record with the full Rafa record in the PL which included his time at Liverpool. Used to justify why Rafa is good and Bruce is crap. I am not saying that Rafa is not a much better Manager, I am saying a better comparison is Rafa’s time at NUFC is better because Liverpool had much more money when he was there than he was afforded at NUFC and Bruce was at all of his PL teams.

Toon22 – I think you’ll find that after this windows finished we’ll have a positive net spend – fatty will roll the dice and hope we do okay then spend in Jan if we are Bottom of league – presuming we aren’t already relegated by then ( is that even possible ? )

Think Tsunki pulled the blog up by its bootstraps yesterday .

He brought a lot of people together with his post of 8:28 yesterday morning ..unified (almost) all of us.

The tide has turned massively on Ashley ..the amount of Ashley supporters were easily spotted on this blog yesterday ..they were seething .

The amount of passion against Ashley was great to see…the contributions in posts and the amount of ticks, hearts, that were given out showed that passion ..it created an atmosphere of a United Support against Ashley .

Tsunki ..without sounding patronising …you were the catalyst for it all.

    Hats off .

If we have 96 million in the pot this would be my plan
    Sell Hayden 12 million
    Sell Muro 5 million
    Sell Gayle 25 million imo
    Sell shelvey 20 million
    Sell Clark 5 million
    Sell Dubravka 30 million
    Sell J Murphy 10 million
That gives you 200 million to spend roughly
Personally the players I have chose to leave for me are either not good enough unhappy or hold high value and can be replaced cheaply
I think we need 3 good forwards
And I would be prepared to spend 120 million of the budget getting them
    Sebastian Haller ,Frankfurt forward
    Wout weghorst Wolfsburg forward
    Jose mauri defender Parma
Ryan Fraser for me from Bournemouth
I would like to see any one of these players also bought
Ryan Fraser Bournemouth for me is a must sign
