Shaka Hislop made 58 appearances for Newcastle United during the mid-nineties and the former goalkeeper currently works as a football analyst for ESPN.
He spoke yesterday and gave some of the best insight we have heard to date on the situation involving Newcastle United under Mike Ashley.
While the comments were due to the appointment of Steve Bruce, and Shaka was spot on with his analysis of our new head coach; it was his understanding of Newcastle under Mike Ashley that was most impressive to us.
He starts off his comments stating the plain fact that Steve Bruce is a big step down from Rafa Benitez. This is inarguable despite what the likes of Stuart Pearce or Richard Keys have to say.
Shaka does here what other pundits just don’t do often enough. He brings the accomplishments of both managers into the conversation and compares them. They are incomparable.
Shaka Hislop– perfect commentary on Newcastle’s plight under Ashley
It is with Mike Ashley that Hislop is most prescient in his comments. He knows how big Newcastle United is and he knows that Mike Ashley is the reason the club is suffering at the moment.
He even mentions that Newcastle will always flounder under Mike Ashley and says that until the club is sold this is how it will remain. But he is quick to let it be known that this is just not good enough.
