Former Newcastle Goalkeeper Spot On With Newcastle Comments

Shaka Hislop made 58 appearances for Newcastle United during the mid-nineties and the former goalkeeper currently works as a football analyst for ESPN.

He spoke yesterday and gave some of the best insight we have heard to date on the situation involving Newcastle United under Mike Ashley.

While the comments were due to the appointment of Steve Bruce, and Shaka was spot on with his analysis of our new head coach; it was his understanding of Newcastle under Mike Ashley that was most impressive to us.

He starts off his comments stating the plain fact that Steve Bruce is a big step down from Rafa Benitez. This is inarguable despite what the likes of Stuart Pearce or Richard Keys have to say.

Shaka does here what other pundits just don’t do often enough. He brings the accomplishments of both managers into the conversation and compares them. They are incomparable.

Shaka Hislop– perfect commentary on Newcastle’s plight under Ashley

It is with Mike Ashley that Hislop is most prescient in his comments. He knows how big Newcastle United is and he knows that Mike Ashley is the reason the club is suffering at the moment.

He even mentions that Newcastle will always flounder under Mike Ashley and says that until the club is sold this is how it will remain. But he is quick to let it be known that this is just not good enough.

Joelinton’s transfer to Newcastle is being held up because of a disagreement over contract length, according to Sport1. The forward wants a three-year deal but the club want him for four years.

Dekka from previous. I think you’ll enjoy the games and while not of a premier side standard there is a freedom in going to watch it for the joy knowing you’re not lining the pockets of A$HLIE either directly or through being another number in a crowd to help market his real interest.

From Tsunki a few days ago:

Stardust got this right – it’s not NUFC any more. This is the illusion that, understandably, diehard supporting matchgoers are being hypnotised with, that it’s still “their club”. You have to stand back and analyze just what has happened, that is, where that NUFC was quietly strangled and the imposter slowly replaced it.

NUFC is a stranger dressed in the old club colours. The former was of course a business, but it was a business built to finance itself, not be a billboard to enrich something else entirely. It was a business that was modelled on old, original lines, yes the owner could take out money for himself, but it HAD to be competitive to make the best use of its resources. It HAD to get the best playing staff it could to achieve the status that attracted matchgoers, TV money, kit money etc to finance it’s never-ending betterment. It HAD to compete to be at the top level where the money was. Honours equated with success, and the payoff for the fans was Pride in a club that represented their aspirations and determination to make something that represented good out of their community.

That NUFC was snuffed out by Ashley. This NUFC has been harvested of all that good stuff. Bits hacked off here and there, vital organs removed. What’s left is a facade with the right insignia, but nothing of the old NUFC remains but former players earning a last payday and mercenary journeymen taking in coin and saying what they are told to. Whatever used to be channelled into the club for success is now diverted into an extended circulatory system that is the lifeblood of unconnected businesses.

The NUFC that those loyal home and away supporters cheer on is a stuffed doll that LOOKS just like their team. It is built for show and not for purpose. It is there to keep the illusion going that this team is trying to achieve something other than take their money and put it straight into a stranger’s pocket. These supporters should refuse to allow it and demand their own club back, the one they started going to see in he first place. They need to look carefully at what they are supporting and recognise it’s a fake, it’s not real, it’s built to hoodwink them.

sky trotting out cashlie line….brucie to get massive £90mill …transfer war chest…..no….£11m from last year £30m from perez…£3m from joselu ….so thats £46mill…..but this has to be within wage restraint and squad size… wage bill will balance …this i believe was rafas big problem that yes he would be given transfer funds but wouldn,t be able to match salaries from prem teams ….one in one out…

Aye, the more you give a player in wages the less he is worth.
Like Sanchez. Still a good player, but has no transfer value as he is on 250K a week and nobody will match that.
Thing is with us. They apply a criteria based on fee, wage and age.
    Hardly anybody fits the profile.
Hence slow progress and we often sign duffers.

JoeLinton wants 4years, Chumley wants 3 years.

How about 3 year contract with one year option and buy out clause of say £80m in line with cost today and player inflation.

Get on with it Chumley as we don’t want to end up with Charlie Austin do we ?

If we do get this Joelinton in, it makes sense to sell Gayle and get another 10-15 mill in the kitty.

Austin heavily linked, wouldn’t pay over 5 mill for him. But he’s a better option than sturridge, welbeck or carroll. Although all 4 are injury prone!

If you don’t support the team then what part of NUFC are you a supporter of?
Totally get not supporting the regime as they’ve been a shambles but surely we should support the players – fair enough boycott etc but surely you want the team to win games?
