Players Will Unite Under Steve Bruce – They Have A Lot To Prove

The Daily Mail have comments made by our captain Jamaal Lascelles that are honest and also show that the squad is ready to move on and do their best to make the current situation with Steve Bruce work.

This is what Jamaal has said as reported in the Daily Mail:

“I did think when we came back that it would be quite difficult coming back and not having a manager. I thought players could go off the rails and lose their heads, but they have remained professional.

“(Change) is always difficult as players and this is the first time it has happened to us as a group. We haven’t really had any direction.

“The players have to cross the white line and you need heart, passion and desire to be able to do that. Hopefully we can bring a few new faces in as well.”

Very good words from Jamaal and he has been open about his feelings when Rafa left. The squad would have had some turmoil and we still may see a few players that want to leave.

It would be reassuring if we heard from Martin Dubravka and Fabian Schar soon as they are the two players we fear could be wanting away.

We are not as worried about Sean Longstaff at the moment as he is from the area and those ties will be strong. What Steve Bruce may lack in tactical acumen compared to Rafa Benitez, his man-management skills have always been touted as being excellent. He will be able to talk to Sean and hopefully, they can forge a good relationship.

We have heard some of his former players like Andrew Robertson come to his defense yesterday. Issac Hayden also spoke glowingly of his time under Bruce at Hull City.

Jamaal Lascelles– his leadership should help with transition to Steve Bruce

Jamaal Lascelles also has commented on what he has heard about his new head coach. He also puts the emphasis on moving on from what’s happened which will be very important.

His comments about what is expected of this team compared to the past season are very revealing to us.

“I’ve only heard positive things about him from people I’ve spoken to. He’s old school in that he wants players to work hard, behave properly.

“You know it’s always good to take your instructions from someone who has been a top player.

“I’m looking forward to it, a totally new challenge, tactics and structure. It is going to be different to what we’ve been used to.

“What happened, happened. People got upset, but it’s done now. We’ve got to look forward. We’ve got a great manager and we’ve got to remain positive.

“As a group we have been written off and proven people wrong. We’ve been tipped for relegation the last two seasons and finished 10th and 13th.

“People never have anything positive to say about us as players. We’re always being told we’re not good enough or we’re not doing something right.

“We try to do the right things.”

Again these are very good words from Jamaal. His willingness to move forward should prove vital for the squad.

We are very interested in his comments about the club being tipped for relegation the last two seasons. It is widely believed that it was Rafa Benitez’s skill as a top manager that kept this group of players out of relegation the past two years.

This squad will be eager to prove that they had some say in that as well. They will be determined to prove that there is more to this club and will have that opportunity now that Rafa has left.

If Steve Bruce can keep this club above the relegation zone, then it will be a team effort. Though a lot of this depends on getting this summer’s recruitment right, there are some superb players at this club.

Now will be their opportunity to prove that they can maintain the same level of performance without the guidance of the mighty Rafa Benitez.

Ashley obviously didn’t like Rafa. Too much of a clash of strong personalities. I thought it could have been financial, but if Mike is prepared to pay compensation for Bruce, and then drop a crazy amount of money on a new player, then it wasn’t just money being the issue between owner and (ex)manager.

Funny how talk of signing Joelinton for £35M+ is creating so little excitement on here.

Probably because the doomsters who claim the club is dead, buried and relegation certainties want their predictions and hopes to come true.

And, Rafa didn;t say he didn’t rate him – with Rondon and Perez here he thought the money could have been better spent in January than on Joelinton. We signed Almiron instead.

I’ve said all along – let’s wait until the window ends before we start shouting about no money or frees being signed.

If others took that attitude they’d save themselves a lot of wasted effort and time posting the horse has bolted before the stable door has even opened.

    ToonRich,
Whilst the way SB left Wednesday wasn’t the best he obviously wanted to force the move. If it had been Vieira or some other young up and coming manager, who had done the same, I don’t think any of is would care. We would just be happy he came to us. We would prob suggest that he could see the potential of our club and couldn’t pass up the opportunity.
And to say that SB is just like Ashley and Charnley is a bit harsh. Just because he has taken the job doesn’t mean he is like them. Rafa wasn’t like them. We seem to be calling h a “yes man” before he has done anything!

It’s said that illness brings ‘family’ closer together, regardless of their differences.

Our club is ill (some would say terminally although I prefer to believe there is a cure). It has been ill for many years and the disease has so far spread through many parts (if not most) of the club.

We all know the disease that shadows our club, it has only one name.

The rest are nothing more than symptoms that simply wouldn’t exist without the diseases presence.

DO NOT let it spread through the fan base with pointless bickering…….be united because WE are the cure!!!!

What’s so dramatic about that? Do you not think we need a new owner? Or coaching staff? Which of those positions don’t need strengthening?

I don’t agree with MA not giving Rafa more say in running the club.

I wish he was still here.

But – Rafa wanted more say than MA was prepared to give him and, in any job, if you don’t accept the working conditions there will only be one winner. And it won’t be the employee.

Rafa left LPool for some of the same reasons, he wasn’t getting all of his own way.

    It is hardly uncommon for managers not to have a total say in every transfer decision, if they did there would be plenty of clubs bankrupt by now.;

Would it have been impossible for Rafa to take us forward with a £90M transfer budget and not sign anyone over 26 for a big fee? I don’t think so.

Mind, he wanted his £6M salary increased to closer to £10M, I wouldn’t knock him for asking, but seeing as he was in the top 3 best paid managers in the Prem and his owners target was just to stay in it, I think he was chancing his luck on that one.

No doubt I’ll take the hammer as a Rafa hater and MA lover – not true, just another take on the situation.

    You must be joking!

Do you really condone the Ashlie regime? It sounds like it..

The only way for me to forgive that fat fcuking liar and thief, is if i re invests all the money he has taken out of the club for the last 12 years..

If he spend £200 mil in this window, and £200 mil in the next two Windows as well, AND apologises to the fans.. Then we can consider forgiving him.

So two positions that I mentioned you disagree on, not really all that dramatic then.

CM we have Johnjo, Ki, Hayden (wants away), Longstaff & Colback, Saivet (not in the squad past 2 years) do you not think we should be looking to strengthen there?

LW we have Ritchie, Atsu, Aarons & Murphy. Can’t remember the last time Aarons got a game and most on here have quite a low opinion on Murphy. Atsu is far better on the right. Ritchie has a great work rate but can’t play with Almiron and I know who i’d rather have in the team.

Bills-Son the reason there is so little excitement over signing is due to who is still in charge of the club and to who they have hired as the replacement to Rafa, its simple as that, it has nothing to do with members of the blog, Ashley & Co have succeeded in sucking the enthusiasm out of the season ahead to a lot of fans

Ashley thinks a 30 mill signing will make fans forget about the past. It does distract people but everyone needs to remain united on getting the parasite out of club!

Already reading fans saying let’s get behind Bruce, he’s not to blame etc. I partly agree but like the above it’s a distraction, enough is enough. In my mind the whole season should have protests and a toxic atmosphere, if it ends in relation so be it if Ashley and the press have taken note along the way.

On a side note of Hayden stays, I’d prefer him as captain than Lascelles.

Olivers, SB has form when it comes to manufacturing a move away from a club! I dont think most of us cared who was appointed, as the ones in agreement that SB is now part of the issue, haven’t forgotten why we are angry!! To say give him a chance, lets see what results he gets doesnt help…it is this thought process which will keep MA here. Supporting Bruce is accepting MA in my opinion.

I’m trying to understand from both sides of the fence…to support the team/head coach/attend or the opposite :/

As much as it pains me to say, results good or bad, we need to UNITE and drive MA out, to do that we need to dislodge everything about the regime that includes a head coach he’s appointed!!

I would love us to upgrade our CM but as probably a 4th priority as I think most of our current can do a job.

Ritchie was playing LWB with Almiron LW so depends on formation but looking at last year as mentioned i think at a minimum a RW and RB followed by a CAM/LW depending on Almiron then a CM. Our squad isnt as horrible as some suggest. Our owner and manager on the other hand……

Looks like he was one of us at one point. What a shame it has turned out like this. His Fatha probably took him to the match and took that photo. How sad. It actually makes me a bit upset and almost makes me want to support him but trouble is I know what he has done in the past. He isnt that young lad we see on the photo.

Maybe I should calm down. I just dont know what to do.

tiny tom – can you explain how the grammar in your posts ranges from being barely literate geordie speak with every error in the book to, when you are replying quickly to someone, to a more than half decent grammar – correct spellings/vocabulary not typically used by illiterates – with only really the non use of capitals being apparent.

Can you answer this or should I contact Jib.

Jib when operating multiples you should keep a vocabulary and grammar book for each one so you keep using the same “errors” for each one.
