Steve Bruce Speaks As Newcastle Head Coach And More Pictures From Training

Steve Bruce gave his first interview to NUFC TV after attending his first training session.

This is the tweet of a section of the interview along with a link to the full interview which lasts close to 5 minutes for those who are able to watch it.

What we gathered from this interview is that Steve Bruce is very calm and very pragmatic. He certainly sounds like a good man-manager and we can see why those who have played for him like him.

Though he has always accorded himself well in the press despite being in difficult circumstances.

He seems to have allowed the transition from Ben Dawson and Neil Redfearn to be smooth as he said he took a more observant approach to training today.

He also says that he has taken cues from Dawson and Redfearn on the status of the squad at the moment. It looks as if they are in good shape with only Dwight Gayle suffering from a slight calf injury

Bruce speaks of his regret of not taking the job after Bobby Robson and that it has stuck with him all of these years.

Steve also says that he knows he is not Rafa but that it is his job to try and move the club forward. While he mentions the loss of Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez, he does say that they are in the process of resolving those losses.

Here is a link provided by the club to about 40 pictures of today’s training session.

Just got in and stuck sky sports on and Nufc are looking at midfield and full back targets.

Not much changes, 3 fowards out but we’ll sign 3 right backs cos they’re on special offer with our preferred agent.

Normally, I am also someone who says “give him a chance”, because normally that’s the fair and balanced thing to do. However, I believe this situation is different. Whatever we think of Bruce is irrelevant, it’s what his employment at NUFC REPRESENTS. He’s here to “keep us up”. Not compete in cups or get top 6. It is an embodyment of the hierarchys lack of ambition. A lack of ambition that they have had no shame in. They almost seem proud of it.

If the isn’t dead, it may as well be.

Bruce’s Prem winning rate of 28.1% (110 wins from 392 matches) doesn’t bode well for us. And he doesn’t last long at most of his appointments. He resigns often and gets sacked now and then as well. Overall a poor record especially in the Prem and a sign of continued lack of ambition by Ashley. This is a clear sign of business as usual by Mr. Chubbs.

    Bill’s son is back,
”The key is still getting a couple of forwards in who can get 25-30 goals between them, if that doesn’t happen no matter what Bruce does it’s going to be a slog against relegation”
We’ve just sold one and refused to pay the relative peanuts of 16.5M for the other, are you on drugs???
You wonder why we’re not getting excited at the talk of a 36M striker on season ticket renewal day, it’s because we’ve been here before Bill’s me auld mouldy cheese grate. Even if we do sign him it seems like a massive kick in the teeth giving him to a failed PL and middling Championship manager to do his best with while sticking our fingers up at world class manager for almost three years. What else is not to be excited about, the fact that said manager is probably at best about fourth choice of second rate managers desperate for a job, added to the fact that we’re, for whatever reason deliberately heading in to our third season back in the PL as a relegation battle. Where’s the proof in that you may ask, the fact that the manager we have employed is well versed in the relegation part of the PL as opposed to the competing bit. We are the 8th richest club in the PL and are very deliberately run like a newly promoted team, what is the excuse for that???

How the fcuk can you sit here, and be excited about the season coming up?

We have an owner who has STOLEN from our great club for 12 years..

He has stripped the club from its once great pride.. i used to be proud of beeing af Newcastle fan, but no more.. I am ashamed..

Though you lot should be ashamed about supporting Ashlie.. (Thats what you are doing, supporting the team.. its not Newcastle Uniteds team anymore, its Sports direct FC)

He has gutted this club time, and time again, and just because there is a link to one player whom we know nothing about, you all piss in your pants.. SHAME ON YOU!

I will still be boycotting arsenal and beyond. I still think Bruce is a terrible appointment simply because of who he has followed and his history. But I will still give him the benefit of the doubt from afar. That is until I see the ginger Pirlos name on the match day squad and then that is it done

We’ve got two season tickets on the 10year deal and our lad has being going for the last 15years at least. We were within hours of chucking them back in February but with Rafa at the helm decided to show out loyalty.
This January will be make or break.
We’ve shelled out 5months of cash already for next season so will support the team through the season rather than jacking it in now.

BZQ have until Christmas to change our minds.
After that it’s taking up golf again, time with the granddaughter and finding some other hobby to keep me out from under the missus feet.

What happened to all the pent up anger? Many people already talking about supporting Bruce as if he’s a decent replacement for Rafa. It’s ridiculous. He’s a Champo manager at best and that’s where we’re going to end up under him. It’s his natural element. But if we go down would he still be in charge of us? Of course not. Ashley will panic and sack him before the end of the season if we’re in the bottom three at the half way mark. So then it’s on to the next yes man. There is no plan for improvement of the club. The club only exists in Ashley’s mind to line his pockets.

With what I ask, a top ten finish?
”You’d be happy with that wouldn’t you”
No I footin wouldn’t, we’re the 8th richest club in the PL and I’m footin sick of being told that tenth is a good finish, look at Wolves, Leicester, Watford, Everton, not everyone can finish seventh but at least they can try.

I shall reiterate my point. It’s not Bruce himself, it’s what his appointment here represents. It reaffirms the clubs total lack of ambition, and the disrespect of the fans and followers. Even if by some miracle he does do OK, even ‘well’, it still changes nothing with regard to Ashley and his tw@tful gang of numpties. You can’t expect replacing Rafa with Bruce to make people go back to normal on the premise of “giving him a chance”

Even this Joe Linton signing is another smoke screen. It looks like investment in the squad, but it’s odds on that he’ll be the only signing, leaving Perez, Diame and Hayden (potentially) unreplaced, and the full back positions un reinforced as needed.

Bills son reckons we are alive and kicking and doing well to be in the Premiership. But he also says we haven’t been a top club for a long time so you can’t expect to be in the top 6 competing with that lot.

So the conclusion is that we should all be grateful to have a team that can remain in the middle of the table and be grateful for it.

That means the purpose of supporting the team is because it’s Newcastle United, the average team that avoids relegation and doesn’t win anything and is handy because it’s local.

    ’til you die.
